I stumbled across this place while walking around the Mission District. The employees are super nice(well, the lady is; one of the other employees couldn’t understand us so we couldn’t communicate with him. He only spoke Spanish I suppose). The food isn’t overly sweet, it’s actually not really even sweet, which some people may prefer. Being a typical overfed American, I prefer it on the sweeter side. But we bought 6 treats, which were all very large, and it came out $ 4.50…Walmart can’t even beat those prices! I think everyone ought to try this place out. You would be supporting a local business, and if you don’t like it then it’s only some chump change that you lose.

Bring coins! Or you could just buy lots of buns(‘pan dulce’ in Spanish), which would not be difficult considering how colorful, warm and comforting every item looks. On my first visit here, I awkwardly bought just one bun not realizing it would cost me ~$ 0.25. The friendly owner rightfully exclaimed«Aw darn. Not making much off of you am I??» Overall, I highly recommend this shop for two reasons: 1) The pan dulce varieties range from less sweet to fairly sweet. Perfect for people like me who don’t have a sweet tooth but enjoy indulging here and there. 2) Generational mom and pop shop that has been in the Mission and in the same family for decades. It would be blasphemous not to support them.

Amazing baked goods. Very cheap! We got six items for under $ 6. The baked goods look fresh, they are very big, and they have a great variety. I will be back!

This is my favorite panaderia in the city! The conchas are excellent, and the bolillo is great for tortas! It never disappoints! :)

One of my favorite bakeries in the mission. They have been here since forever, and you can get the original mission feel as soon as you walk in to this place. The bread is laid out along the window and wall. All that is needed is a pair of Tongs and a tray, and the rest is heaven. There is a large selection of bread to choose from, all with their own unique tastes and flavors. Once it came time to pay, the good news kept on coming. Each piece of bread ranges from 65 cents to 95 cents. Totally worth it. The cashier was super friendly and even threw in a couple more prices of bread for free. His family was super friendly and you could tell that they really care about what they do, and keeping the original Mission feel in their bakery. Once I paid and was on my way, it was time to enjoy my tasty pastries. I was not disappointed. I will be back for sure.

I love a good bakery when I see one. I saw one, I knew what I wanted, and I conquered. I do prefer baked goodies of the Colombian variety but let’s be real, if it’s bread we’re talking about, I love any bakery! Period. Mexican bakeries tend to have sweeter bread options as compared to Colombian bakeries, who love cheese in their bread. Originally, I came here for the pumpkin turnover I saw outside as we walked by the window. Great sales technique, by the way! I ended up with the pumpkin turnover and my husband(and I) also bought a roll of the regular sweet bread. The pumpkin bread was okay. Not what I was expecting. I wanted more pumpkin flavor in a jelly form rather than cooked into the bread. The sweet bread was AMAZING though. I loved every little bite of it. I ended up switching with my husband… me finishing the sweet bread all to myself and my husband ate the pumpkin turnover. It was super cheap! Cash or credit is fine but if it’s under $ 5, they charge you an extra $ 0.25 or $ 0.50 when using credit. Simple, no frills, good eats.

Great local Mexican bakery. The prices are as one would expect, about .70 for each sweet bread. Next time you are in the area stop by on your way to Philz.

Amazing! Came here for a field trip with an entire grade and Luis was so kind and accomodating to the three groups of 3rd graders who came in for the treats. With so many treats to choose from of course they were distracted and everyone was happy with what they had picked out. Great place to bring friends, family or children for a classic pastry and take a walk down Balmy Alley. Thank You Luis!

If you don’t love this place there is something wrong with you. This is what the mission is all about… Stop by Philz for some coffee and then pop across the street to grab yourself a pastry or two. If will be a sad day if this bakery ever goes out of buisness, it feels like the last of its kind.

Solid Mexican bakery. There’s a nice environment inside with good help. I got a few things and ate them up yum. I guess one could make a case for going out of the way for their baked goods especially in this gentrifying area.

The nino envueltos were just the right mix of sweetness and substance. The owner was extremely welcoming and talked about living in SF over the years. He built an instant rapport and we had comfy banter. AND we bought three delicious baked goods for less than three dollars. Little slice of what’s great about the Mission.

My godmother used to bring me the pan dulce from here as a child in the ‘80s – and it is still just as good! So, I haven’t had pan dulce from here probably since the ‘90s but got some today & it was fresh, soft, and delicious! This is the only place that carries the chilindrinas – which are my favorite! I will definitely make the trip back here just for the chillendrinas. Amazing! And the guy that worked there was super friendly :-)

Once again, I was in the area and happened to crave pan dulce. My dear in-laws were unfamiliar with these baked treats and were game to check it out. Everything was perfect. I told them my childhood stories of the different varieties and bashfully admitted which ones I had never tried. We loaded up on hella breads(including my beloved conchas) and walked out only $ 6 lighter. This baffled them immensely. We ate them that evening, spoiling our dinner but going to bed happy. Grab some tongs, grab a tray, and load up on happy bedtime buns.

My visit afforded me some very fresh and tasty pan dulce at crazy cheap prices. Perhaps it’s because it’s close to Dia de los Muertos, but my goodies tasted like they were just made – nothing overly sweet, cookie had a slight aftertaste. 50 cents per item! The shop smelled good, but looked like it was in need of a good deep clean/scrubbing. Most of their goods were showcased in the window and as others have said, it’s the usual tongs/tray procedure when you are picking out your sweets. The ladies inside were nice. I usually go to La Victoria, but tried this place out for the first time and I would come back.

La reyna has it’s mexican pastries prominently displayed in the window. either this or staleness left dry crumbs on tip of my tongue. . drill: grab a tray and a tong, use to grab whichever pastry tickles your fancy. the cashier will tell you the damages. eats: 3/2.25 –palmier?(.95) prettty sweet and dry –custard filled … dry on outside — ? semisweet, dry crumbs: –mexican pastries sometimes available in smaller sizes 4/$ 1 –pastry size here very big but stale. –would pass next time. –some pastry labeled, most unpriced.

Oh dear… it was like the Alamo… only worse. Jamie W. and I were surrounded by hundreds… yes, hundreds and hundreds of Mexican-style pastries. They all looked so good that we were at a loss on what to do. It took us a while to realize it was self-serve in here… and only because someone else had a pair of aggressive tongs and an orange tray piled high with goodies. So we went for the tray and the tongs and went a-hunting. We got two big ones for 70 cents each, and two smaller ones for 40 cents each. Sure can’t beat those prices. Not sure why they advertise a «Coffee Shop» here since there was nothing resembling caffeine or a place to sit in here. We took them to go on our way to the movies at the Metreon. We finally made it with great anticipation over our $ 2.20 haul of goodies. Damn, we were disappointed. The biggest one looked like a big wedge of something sweet with a butter cream filling and a dusting of sugar. It turns out it was just a jumbo piece of bread slathered with butter and sugar. Another one was a Pan Fino Empanada with an apple filling. Again, it was way too bready with just a smidgen of sweetness provided by the apples. We had slightly better luck with the Cuernos de Azucar which had a sweet pumpkin filling and the Galetta de Sucre, which was a flat pastry with lots of rock sugar on top. and everything was just kinda stale. You see a photo of our total haul in the gallery. But alas, we were defeated by our expectations of those pastries. Now I know how Davy Crockett felt as he stood before the thousands of Santa Anna’s troops. It is believed he said…“We will not eat the empanadas of our enemies… however, if you have a Krispy Kreme Glazed, we’d gladly reconsider surrender.“ PASTRIES — 2 stars… bready and stale., need to try other panaderias in the ‘hood AMBIANCE — 2 stars… uh, what coffee shop? SERVICE — 2 stars… gee, not very helpful… just bags them for ya TOTAL — 2 stars… Remember the Alamo!
