Perfect spot for a cheeseburger and a beer or Bloody Mary. Amazing vista underneath the Bay bridge, great outdoor area. Really relaxed ambience inside and out. And very chilled vibe from the staff. The cheeseburger is a solid 8⁄10. Bloody Mary’s 7.5÷10

The hamburger was simply not worth serving. The bartender and staff were friendly enough. Also, for an establishment with«java» in its name, I’d think they do more than serve coffee out of self serve dispensers.

How disappointing that a place that’s been around«forever», is right off the bay, etc. can survive by offering mediocre food. Their menu is very simple which can be a good thing if all are executed well. Only their garlic and chili cheese fries come close! Their burgers are probably quarter pound patties folded into a large piece of sourdough bread with onions and mustard. No flavors save for the sourdough bread! What a waste of a view!

I was impressed by the menu when I first walked in. It’s a cute local business, the food was alright. I ordered a double dog, thinking wow this must be good. It ended up being 2 skinny wieners in a massive sourdough loaf with tons of mustard, onion and pickles. My husband’s sandwich was also sourdough, and we learned that day that we are not big fans of sourdough, at least not with hotdogs. It wasn’t great, I ended up scooping a lot of the onion and mustard out. We split some garlic fries which I felt were too oily, and the garlic seemed a bit bitter. I’m not going to totally knock this place, I definitely enjoyed the general vibe of the place, and I’m curious what their breakfasts taste like, just not going to run back anytime soon.

The perfect breakfast place. Red’s java has been around for a long time and I totally understand why. Their breakfast items hit the spot. In my party of three we all had different items and they were all delicious. Definitly worth a visit if your here on holidays and if you luve in SF and never been ! Otherwise you know what i’m talking about !

I’ve never been more disgusted by a restaurant in my entire life. The food is mediocre and the service is beyond poor. They lack tack and I witnessed an outright hate crime in the facility. I watched what appeared to be a server or maybe the owner ask a patron if he «Was a f***ing faggot.» Never going back there ever again.

9÷29÷15 I stopped to have a drink with a friend. On the way out the owner accused me of taking my drink«to go.» I assured him that wasn’t the case since I just finished my drink. He proceeded to call me a «liar,» a «faggot,» and a «bitch» because he insisted that I had a bottle in my pocket. Really, I had no pockets that could have concealed a bottle. If I wanted a drink to go, I would go to the store. Beyond that, the food sucks, the drinks are overpriced, the service is lacking, and the crowd is obnoxious. This establishment clearly doesn’t deserve your business and most definitely will not receive any business from me or anyone that I know. It’s a shame that the owner thinks this kind of behavior is acceptable.

Great double cheeseburger. Like the twist with the sour dough bread. Cheese fries were good too.

I must say that chili burger I had was the worst ever. Cheap quality meat with processes cheese and completely tasteless chili on a sourdough baguette. No spices, whatsoever. If it wasn’t for the tourists, this place would not survive in San Francisco!

I grew up in San Francisco and still love visiting as an adult. One place we make sure go to is Red’s Java House. It is a San Francisco classic that has remained practically the same since it opened. Hole in the wall? Of course! And that’s what makes it great. If you want a simple, juicy and yes greasy hamburger. You’ve found the place. The breakfast sandwich is egg, cheese, and your choice of sausage or bacon in between bread(sourdough, wheat, rye, white, or French roll). This morning we opted for a sausage breakfast sandwich with wheat bread. But I also love the pancakes here. Light, fluffy, and yummy! As far as location, you can’t beat outdoor seating with a view of the bay and Bay Bridge and a short walk to AT&T park.

Never really considered dining here, with so many food options around. But working(and eating lunch) around South Beach gets pricey so I found reasonable prices from their menu online and decided to try it out, with Red’s being on my usual jogging route anyway. I came in and ordered fish and chips. Subbed the fries for garlic fries… came out to $ 14.96, even though prices are different online. Decent price and the food was what I expected. Would’ve given five stars if the cashier answered me directly when I had a question instead of talking and laughing with the line cook. i’ve worked in food services and in customer service and it was kind of rude.

Everyone, including Anthony Bourdain, knows that Red’s Java House is a San Francisco institution. I’ve passed by Red’s Java House on my way to AT&T Park countless times and yet somehow never found the time to stop in. Luckily, I was finally able to last month on Opening Day. My mom and I got to Red’s fairly early for breakfast. By 11 a.m., it was packed to the brim with people so be sure to get here early if you want to eat breakfast comfortably and not in a rush. We both ordered the pancakes plate($ 9.75) which came with scrambled eggs, bacon, and a large pancake. Red’s gives some generous portions and we were full until late in the afternoon. The food here is your standard breakfast fare but it still feels like a good, home-cooked meal. With great views of the Bay, Red’s is definitely one of those places where you«stop and smell the roses.» As a San Francisco native, I love places that give me a truly, local vibe and Red’s offers just that.

great place to come before a Giants game. Got the Sourdough Cheese burger and a bucket of beers. Gotta get here early, 2+ hours before the game, other wise it will be tricky getting a good place to sit.

Anthony Bourdain said anytime you begin to doubt the wonderfulness of San Francisco, all you gotta do is come here. It’s a no-frills place where you can grab a good burger, chili cheese fries, and a beer and enjoy the view.

This place is a great place to grab a beer and enjoy a view of the Bay bridge. I’ve walked by this place for years, and assumed it was your typical dive bar. Looking for a place for a quick bite, some person heard me and a friend talk about lunch, and recommended this spot. We ended up finding a local gem, so we stopped by again today for the fish and chips special. On our first visit, we ordered the double cheeseburger with garlic fries. Don’t expect fresh ground beef, and a doneness request on the meat. What you will get is a simple, but solid burger on sourdough bread with a basket of fries. The place is unassuming as you walk by, but step in and you’ll find a great old school diner on a small pier with wooden floors. The pictures on the wall vary from Ernest Hemingway chilling with Fidel Castro to Obama dancing with Sarah Palin. The patio out back is a relaxing area to enjoy your food, but keep an eye on it if you go to order a drink. The birds are waiting for you to slip.

I really wish I could have given it more props… but the food was not good. I’m sorry to say, but you come here only for the view… and you’re really paying for the view. All that food you see in my photo was around 28 dollars. Mini sandwich which left me wanting to get more food, and my boyfriend’s corn beef hash was disappointing for 11ish dollars. I can’t even explain what the food tasted like. It was bland. The sausage and egg breakfast sandwich is just as it is — drenched in butter and eh. The corn beef hash was lacking beef, but it had an abundance of onions. The coffee ended up having a ton of coffee grinds in it [of course they aren’t known for coffee, I know]. The best part of this breakfast was the location — you sit near the water, look out into the sky and feel at peace.

I love the burger! It’s a simple thing, but the bread is what MAKES it. They use fresh, San Francisco sourdough bread on their burgers instead of boring, mealy buns. They’ve got great chili fries too. Grab a beer and enjoy a nice view of the water. I hear this place does great breakfasts. Next time I’m in the city, I’m definitely stopping in again!

Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s– gone. That’s what Ms Jackson sang which holds true in the case of Red’s Java House. I found after eating at Red’s that I take for granted the lettuce and tomato slices that I usually receive in my burgers. I’m a manly man I think subconsciously, I don’t need no stinking veg. Do I look like a tree huggin’, recycling conscious, tofu eatin’, yoga mat havin’ guy to you?! But then I took my first bite: Double Cheeseburger: it’s about a five inch double patty burger in sourdough bread with onions and pickles. The burger comes out instantly since the turnover of burgers is non stop. There’s no asking for a medium rare burger here, they come out well done. But after my first couple bites I realized something was missing. The burger was lacking a certain flavor and texture. That’s when I realized that this burger had no lettuce or tomato. I didn’t understand till those components were gone how important they are. Don’t get me wrong, the patties/cheese were tasty, the sourdough bread was awesome. I would say 3.5 stars but just those two items would have bumped it up to a 4 star experience easily. The fries were whatever as well. The service was fast food-ish. Order, sit, eat, throw wrappers in trash can and keep it moving. However the location is a million dollar view right below the Bay Bridge on Embarcadero. A real iconic location for this burger joint. Never again will I under estimate the value of vegetables like lettuce and tomato. Because you don’t what you got till it’s gone… Now where’s my yoga mat???
