Mr Allen is always pleasant and it’s always smelling good when you walk in the bar. The brisket is by far the best dish. But I also get the colossal prawns sautéed in garlic on bed of lettuce. When you go in there they make you feel like family not just a customer. Also you have to stay for at least one drink you won’t regret it.

This is a pretty nice bar that has a warm and welcoming night life. I like to come here with my girlfriends on a Friday after work to enjoy some girl time.

The night I went, at about 10pm there were old heads in there dam near 50 dancing to old school hip hop joints the DJ was spinning. I would say it would’ve been nice to see more women around my age in there but I was on a date so they would’ve only been eye candy to me. However, when we were getting ready to leave I’d say around midnight, some younger folks started to come in. The food we ordered was ok, but nothing that I’d be in a dire rush to try again. All in all, it’s a cool spot to unwind at, get a drink at a reasonable price and dance the night away with some grown folks.

Looooove me some Sam Jordans! Great place to stop by after work and have a cold beer while I wait on some BBQ. The ribs are awesome, the mac and cheese is epic. Just good food, good prices and large portions. The old guy serving up the grub is friendly and actually gets my order right every time. Neighborhood is sketch, and some of the clientele is also, but don’t ask for trouble and you won’t find any. Parking is easy in the afternoons. Daytime bartenders pour heavy..

This stuff, this is the stuff. We got takeout and took it to the park because they don’t allow dogs on their patio. The BBQ is tender and well seasoned and well sauced(not too much!). They give generous portions for the price and the sides and selection is amazing. You also get more white bread than you could ever possibly eat. However: I’m fine with a little mess, but the kitchen seems pretty dirty. This isn’t the place for picky eaters.

I went in here when I was checking out the neighborhood. The food was the bomb! African corn, yummy! People were really friendly and if you go on Monday, Big Boo may be spinning some great reggae music. Tell him Juli sent you!!!

Wow. I really didn’t know what to expect — I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a bar in the Bayview before — but this was a wonderful experience. The owner Ruth was sitting at the bar and struck up a conversation with me right off, and other people said«hi» randomly. It’s a very neighborhoody place; everyone seems to know each other. The crowd is «mature» by which I mean middle aged and thus pretty mellow. Lots of R&B on the jukebox and a sign saying«No Rap Music» although I don’t think this was strictly enforced. Some cool old photographs of the eponymous Sam Jordan, who was a boxer before he was a bar owner. The bar itself was just designated a landmark a few days ago, as the Jordans have owned it since the 1950’s. A lot of the other reviews talk about BBQ but on the night we were there(Tuesday) there was no regular menu service but some food(twice-baked potatoes this time) was set out around 9PM, as part of a deal including happy hour drink prices all night long. After a few glasses of their house-made sangria the place turned into a big dance party and I don’t remember much after that. You should come and find out for yourself.

Really like the bbq here as i’d eat here every two weeks or so while working in the neighborhood. Always seemed like a birthday was being celebrated when id pop in after work as you could find folks enjoying themselves in one way or another. The ribs are really good, the skinny bearded man that ive heard folks call pop is sam jordans son i believe and is a cool cat. History is that his daddy was a helluva boxer in the day and even ran for mayor in the early 60’s. I like this place and they always treat me right in there. It’s not a true sit down joint as it’s dark w/tables that you can eat at but bar mentality first or takeout as you go to the back past the jukebox to order up your food items to engage in are the ribs, brisket, catfish, african corn and spaghetti

Jordan’s offers terrific food, a friendly crowd, and stiff(also stiffly-priced) drinks. The place has a cool feel but usually the juke box is so loud it’s tough to have a conversation. It can be pretty dead some nights, but on weekends or for big sports games the place is packed. The kitchen is amazing, but the Bayview needs more options for bars.

«That wasn’t a piglet.» My always articulate and clever grandmother’s reaction to the size of Jordan’s pork ribs. I brought a half rack(six) for dinner. She could only eat one. Same with my grandfather. Apparently I brought them three dinners. Grandpa was also impressed by the size but found them a little dry. Nothing a little BBQ sauce won’t take care of. Chicken was no small matter either. Quarter order was two breasts and two thighs. All good. Plenty of sides to choose from. This family goes baked beans all the way. We loved them. Three stars for taste. Four stars for size. Another four stars to the guys playing dominoes as I was waiting for my food(ordered and served out of a kitchen in the back of Primitive Bar). Five stars for being almost as old as my grandparents.

I checked out Jordan’s House of Ribs, inside of Primitive Bar &BBQ (4004 Third St, SF, 415−282−4003). The bar is a hopping place. Jordan’s(serving through a window at the back of the bar) has been there since 1958. I got a Pork Rib & Brisket combo($ 12)(the hot links were not ready) with hot sauce on the side. I did take out, and reheated it at home a few hours later. Big plus: the order was packed in a nice microwaveable paper take-out container. The ribs were meaty and a bit toothy; they could have been a bit more tender. No visible smoke ring, although they did have a fair smoke flavor. They were lightly seasoned, and really needed/benefited from the not-so-hot sauce. The brisket was tender and tastier. While it was not quite chopped, it was in small pieces, and showed some evidence of a heavier rub but no smoke ring. Of the two, the brisket was better. The side of potato salad was generous, and rather good, well seasoned and not overly creamy. In comparison to Pittman #2 just down the street, I liked Pittman better.

So.. . Sam Jordan’s.. . I went here on the recommendation of a ghetto ass friend.. . one that I should have known better than to have listened to.. . but what are you gonna do? My friend and I went here after a bust of a night in the Mission.. . The 40+ Becky crowd was out in abundance, and I just wasn’t feelin’ watching middle aged white women grind on poles, or walls, or floors, or people, or whatever was in close proximity to them.. . so we left the Mission quick and headed over to Sam Jordan’s, where I was promised that there would be no such shenanigans.. . Ummm.. . well, yeah, cause it’s in the Bayview.. . duh.. . Anyway, this is a cool little spot just to grab a drink or whatever, but if your idea of a great time isn’t watching a grown GROWN ass man do the stanky leg, this probably ain’t the place for you.. . I’m just sayin’ tho.. . Overall: cheapish drinks, not super crowded but not dead.. . it was what it was.. . a bar in the Bayview!

Best BBQ in the city! If you want real BBQ go to Sam Jordan’s. I use to live in Dogpatch and always drove by Sam Jordan’s and decided one day to stop in. This place is the real deal. It was one of the only BBQ places that I have seen in the city where the patrons are actually African Americans rather than poser hipsters. As I was eating my brisket, several people came up to me to ask me what I thought of the food. It was great. They also play some great hip hop and r and b from back in the day.

Sam Jordan the Mayor of Butcher town! the greens are my favorite here. the ribs are my favorite in SF but unfortunately the bbq scene isn’t the competitive here. it’s got a nice bar setup and can get real crowded on weekends and game days. the service is always great and friendly. have a drink and mingle while you wait for your food.

We love Jordan’s Ribs! We are total carnivores and a full slab of ribs(no sauce — we prefer the meat by iteself) is awesome for two hungry guys. The ribs — wonderful, tender, juicy, flavorful — Jordan’s has a nice spice rub they have all over the ribs so no sauce needed! Though the one time we got sauce(on the side) it was really good as well. Sides — we love the African Corn, the baked beans are amazing, and the mustard greens are quite tasty too! Excellent cornbread muffins and they have quite an extensive menu, but hte BBQ is what really shines! Echo sentiments about the ambiance — not a 5 star restaurant, but it’s about the food.

It’s that good!!! Well, the ribs are at least… A friend and I have been on a mission to find the best BBQ in SF. Sadly, we’ve been disappointed for the most part, but Jordan’s is an exception. The ambiance leaves a little to be desired(it’s basically a kitchen window in the back of a bar), and the brisket could use a little work(not especially tender or flavorful), but the pork ribs are the best we’ve found in the city!!!
