I decided to try this place out for eyebrow waxing biggest mistake ever, usually when people get brows waxed they are usually asked you to lay down on the bed/​table for a precise waxing, however I was asked to sit on a rolling chair while she worked her waxing, I told her to just clean it up not to effing ing shape it the way she wanted it, I called her out on why she shaped them, she replied «guy look good with straightbrows* I look like a cartoon character now, in addition to the shitty shaping of my brows there was extra hair she did not get, and didn’t even try to pluck them out. NEVER COMING BACK, also if you already have a regular waxer just stick to who you already have and don’t try and waxing places around ocean go for Chris nails instead on geary same price 10x better service and facilities

I highly recommend this place. Tina helped me with my manicure/​pedicure and was wonderful– so sweet and friendly! The place is very clean and calming, and Tina was so attentive and payed very close attention to detail. Definitely worth the price for the mani pedi combo, and I will be back!

PERFECT ‘acrylic’ nails for sure. Tina is wonderful at choosing just the right size tips and a perfectionist at shaping & filing the acrylic nail. **2 stars go for pricing, seems that every time I go in (going to this nail salon a few years now) her pricing always changes — hum I always get the same FILL or FULL SET!
Seems that her rate fluctuates according to her mood that evening
or if the salon has been slow or busy. I never know what to expect to pay :(

Star Nails is very clean and relaxing compared to a lot of other nails salon on Ocean Ave. The prices are very low and I love the spa pedicure chairs. Tina won’t cut all your cuticles off from a manicure so that it will grow back ugly causing you to come back for another manicure like some other nail salon.

I like going here because Tina is just so nice. Unfortunately I have chosen to stop getting my nails done at Star Nails all-​together. I had a manicure yesterday and today more than 50% of the polish is already chipped off –and all I’ve done is type! I’ve been complaining that her polish chips too quickly for a while.
I’ve seen her pour acetone into old bottles of OPI polish. I know she’s been really slow and I feel bad for her, but cutting costs this way has just made her lose another customer. My nails looked better before I went in there yesterday than they do by 4pm today. :(
It’s a bummer because she’s inexpensive, near my house, and a real sweetheart. If I do go back, I’ll bring my own polish!

i have tried many, many nail salons… there is a good place near japan town, but that’s too far away.
this place has done the best job out of 5 places i have tried near my place. the acrylic nails last longer also. sometimes i have to go to other places since they are just closer to me, but i try to come here whenever i can.

I got a manicure and pedicure here on Friday. Why is my OPI nail polish chipping off like there is no tommorrow?
OPI nail polish does not do this. I blame Tina, owner and operator of Star Nails. She has been in business for 17 years. She can do better.
Tina mother of 5, grandmother of 6 is a married woman. She told me she started out at Top Nail Ocean Ave. She was the cleaner.
Top Nail is the reason why I went to West Portal to Vaso’s. They are dirty and a bit lazy.
Star Nail is in an excellent location. It is a beautiful retail space. She offers Nail design, Waxing and other services. The prices are great. She has over 400+ Nail Polish Colors (OPI Hard Candy Revlon)
She needs to invest in some brand name top coats/​Base coats and a top coat.
Prices for services should be displayed.
She does not have good sanitary procedures for the implements. I will bring my own next time. Carmen from In Style II Ocean Ave says I should try Lisa’s Nails. OMG!!! This is why I do my nails myself.

$ 17 pedicure. Rarely a wait. Clean foot bath, massage chair. Not always the most thorough pedicure but it gets the job done. Never painful. Good for a neighborhood salon around the corner from my house.
