Can’t believe this location closed. It seemed to always have someone ordering in line and people were constantly ordering delivery. I liked going to this place once in awhile. Probably not going to make it over to South Park very often. Oh, well.

The jalapeño popper grilled cheese had quite the kick to it and it was really good. My husband did think the bread seemed a tad stale but I didn’t really notice. The mac and cheese was ok. Not the best I’ve ever had. I like my mac and cheese sauce to be extra gooey and cheesy and this one just wasn’t that gooey. There was a good amount of cheese but that gooey sauce is necessary. The interior is really nice and the staff was very nice and quick with everything.

Great place for some creative grilled cheese options. Also the chicken and biscuits were amazing!

I tried the Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese. Great sandwich! If I lived in San Francisco I would come here often.

Grilled cheese? Check. Mac and cheese? Check. Tomato soup? Check check. You must get the Mac and Cheese Grilled Sandwich. Hands down it is the best one. Grilled perfectly on the outside, it is nice and buttery with a delicious creamy mac and cheese nestled in between the slices. And you can’t have grilled cheese sandwiches without tomato soup. The smoky tomato soup is creamy and is a perfect complement and I like to dip part of my grilled cheese in the soup before taking a bite. I haven’t tried the other grilled cheese sandwiches before since it’s hard to leave the Mac and Cheese but my office often gets the Mousetrap, Mushroom Gruyère, or Jalapeño Popper. I think in general, their grilled cheese sandwiches are all amazing and it’s really just a matter of preference on what you want to go inside your sandwich. But I do think that the Mac and Cheese elevates the grilled cheese on a whole different level since it’s a combination of two different dishes. There’s the Red, White, and Blue combo plate if you wish to get half a sandwich with a choice of either a soup or side salad to go with it. Speaking of salads, I would also recommend the Bamboo’s Sesame Kale. I really like the edamame, cashews, and jicama because it gives the salad a nice flavor and crunch. Plus the honey-sesame vinaigrette is pretty damn good.

I got the Mac n cheese grilled cheese which was really good and boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of tomato soup. I ate the soup because it’s my favorite. It’s a cute little place with good background music. The service was really good and the pomegranate lemonade was yummy!

Yummy grilled cheese sandwiches that range from $ 7 to $ 11.50. Their cheese is top notch and so well paired w/the crusty, toasted bread it’s placed between. They also serve burgers, salads and soups. So cute that they include an apple as your side.

I got the American burger which was ok, it was simple which I typically like except the buns were way bigger than the burger and it was just plain. It was $ 14 and I did get a side of fries so that was fine. The other meal was a mac n cheese grilled cheese sandwich and it was good, but $ 12 for a grilled cheese just seems wrong and my side was an APPLE so I couldn’t really enjoy it. Im glad I tried it out, but it was expensive for nothing really special and we bused our own tables, got our own water from some weird water fountain from the wall. The staff was nice and cool so customer service was not an issue. Condiments were very limited on the table and the seats were like sitting on concrete, if it wasn’t for the grilled cheese sandwich this place would get a 2 star. Only visit if you want to experience a new type of grilled cheese sandwich. The company does state that their prices represent paying their employees good and fair wages as well as benefits which also contributes to the extra star.

This place is pretty good if you like grilled cheese, the fries too are good. Had the jalapeño popper grilled and the lady had the mouse trap grilled cheese(regular grilled cheese) and both got a side a fries. Overall pretty good. Must try place. Good service maybe a little on the pricey side.

AH-MAY-ZING! Seriously the best grilled cheese sandwich I’ve had I think. My boyfriend and I came here at around 3:30 and there was only 1 or 2 other couples here so we were helped very quickly. I asked a lot of questions because I don’t know my cheeses to well and the girl was super kind, patient, and helpful! And super accommodating too! She was more than happy to answer any questions we had, and offer anything else that we might have wanted from the menu. The place was also very trendy. It has a really cool modern vibe to it. It was also pretty spacious! On the tables they offer this really good brand of ketchup and SUPER good hot sauce! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! The food comes out on an elevated tray along with an apple. I really liked the presentation of it all! Now for the taste itself, I am almost speechless! I got the Turkey Club. The bread was toasted and buttered to perfection. Not too greasy either. And there was enough cheese to really make you know this is a grilled cheese sandwich, but not so much that it’s just greasy and messy with cheese. The turkey was also smoked turkey so it added to the warm taste of the sandwich. I am craving this again as I type.

This was so disappointing! I love grilled cheeses, and I walk by the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen daily on the way to my office. Finally, a day came when I was going to splurge on a decadent grilled cheese. I ordered a jalapeño popper grilled cheese. And I was so, so, so let down. The sandwich was big, so thats a plus. The bread had little if any butter on the outside — a bad sign. The filling was so sweet with(I think) mango that the jalapeño was kind of overpowered. I’m all for a good balance of sweet and spicy, but this wasn’t it. Far too sweet and the cheese was barely present. NOT the ooey gooey grilled cheese I had hoped for. I didn’t finish my sandwich because it just made me sad. To give credit where credit is due, I did appreciate the apple I was given to accompany my sandwich. It was tasty. Despite its convenience and promise and cheese, I will not be back.

I had high expectations for this place — a trendy restaurant idea and… who doesn’t love a grilled cheese! I imagined the sandwiches to be melting with delicious cheese and each bite bursting with flavor. Yet, I was underwhelmed. We ordered two grilled cheeses — the Jalapeño Popper and the Mushroom Gruyère. The bread on both seemed to be a bit stale. The Jalapeño Popper was a bit hot, but wasn’t especially flavorful. I added the bacon to it, so that may have taken away from the jalapeño flavor. The Mushroom Gruyère had a very thin layer of cheese and the mushrooms had little to no flavor. A marinade for the mushrooms would have improved the grilled cheese immensely. Next time I will try the Mac n Cheese grilled cheese. From other Unilocal reviews, that seems to be the signature grilled cheese. I love the idea of creating a restaurant focused on a traditional American comfort food and making it more exquisite. The restaurant has a great décor and it’s fun to look at everything on the walls. If the restaurant can better execute it’s grilled cheese sandwiches, it’ll definitely hit 5 starts.

Heard about this place through a friend and since we’re around the block, decided to try. I ordered two Mac and cheese grilled cheese for $ 10 each, for me and my 5 year old. But then I noticed they had a kids grilled cheese for $ 5 after we already started eating. Damn, I wish the lady who was ringing me up would of mentioned that. The prices was a bit expensive but there’s signs that says include local sales tax and«we proudly pay for livable wages and full healthcare benefits» for their employees, which I ain’t knocking that hustle. I agree, that’s really good for the workers. Now back to my grilled cheese… It was really good. There was a lot of melted cheese, I love that. The Mac & cheese was spilling outside of the sandwich, yum! It even came with strawberries which my son are both his and mine, lol.

The roommate wanted to do nothing the weekend of our birthdays, so we were lazy bums and ordered delivery for every meal. I had a Caviar credit, so I used it to order delivery for lunch on Saturday, September 5th around 12:15pm. The food took about an hour to get to us. *Daily mac n cheese: baked cheese crust side($ 8.36) *Chicken n biscuits: buttermilk fried chicken fingers, served with fresh mini-biscuits & kale slaw, comes with choice of 2 dipping sauces: BBQ sauce, Honey mustard($ 13.28) *Mushroom gruyère grilled cheese: fontina, gruyère, roasted wild mushrooms, roasted potatoes, melted leeks, caramelized onions, thyme butter on levain($ 10.33), add Fresh jalapenos(+$ 0.59) *Club turkey grilled cheese: tillamook sharp cheddar, creamy havarti, willie bird smoked turkey, roasted tomatoes, sierra nevada stout mustard, arugula on artisan sourdough($ 9.84), with Bacon(+$ 1.47) *Adam’s reuben: jarlsberg, new york pastrami, stout mustard, brussels«kraut», bread n’ butter pickles, garlic butter on local rye served with homemade russian dressing($ 11.81) I got the Mushroom & Turkey grilled cheeses and Mac n cheese while the roommate got the Reuben and Chicken n biscuits. The Mac n cheese was delicious! Creamy and cheesy! I found it very comforting and satisfying. The Club turkey was good as well. Definitely add bacon as I think it completes the sandwich. The Mushroom was my least fav. In concept it sounded great, but the sandwich was soggy and the mushrooms didn’t hold up to all the cheese. I had a bite of the roommate’s Reuben which was tasty. The Chicken strips were good, but the dipping sauces were awful. We ended up using some other sauces we had at home. Solid place for a grilled cheese. Next time I’m craving an ooey gooey sandwich, I may make the trek to the Soma location since it’s somewhat close to work.

The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen is a casual place on the corner of 20th and Harrison specializing in grilled cheese(surprise!), along with fried Brussel Sprouts and mac and cheese. It’s great for a buttery and quick dinner. What keeps me coming back are the Brussel Sprouts. They are perfectly fried, sweet, and spicy. For me, splitting an order of them and having a sandwich makes for a reasonably-sized dinner. To be honest, I enjoy the $ 7 Mousetrap as much as the $ 10.5 Mushroom Gruyére, so I tend to stick to the former. While the seating is plentiful, their sandwiches and Brussel Sprouts work great as something to grab to go. I usually call in ahead of time and my order is ready within 15 minutes.

I kept seeing flyers for this place at my nearby climbing gym, so good job on successful marketing. I finally came here with my friend after climbing, and it was everything I had ever dreamed of. Upon walking in we were greeted by the cashier and proceeded to check out the comprehensive menu. I was tempted to get the daily macaroni and cheese of the day, but for my first time here, I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich. They all sounded tasty, but Adam’s Reuben($ 12) really caught my eye. It has jarlsberg cheese, New York Pastrami, mustard, brussels«kraut», pickles, and garlic butter on rye bread served with housemade Russian dressing. SOGOOD. Super filling, as they are generous with the ingredients. I could only finish half of my sandwich, but then again I have a tiny appetite. Would definitely recommend this sandwich. Each sandwich also comes with two strawberries which is a confusing but pleasant surprise. The staff is not overly friendly, and this is more of a self-service kind of place, but I’ll definitely come back here to try that macaroni and cheese and some of their other sandwich options. Oh and they do catering which is awesome.

Not really what I was expecting… but not in a completely terrible way… I ordered the mac and cheese grilled cheese and tomato soup. The sandwich wasn’t bad, but because that particular sandwich is ALL about the mac and cheese, I would have liked a more decadent mac and cheese inside of the sandwich. The mac and cheese itself was pretty basic but still made a decent grilled cheese. The tomato soup was also just ok. I like my tomato soup a little thick and the soup here is kind of watery. The flavor is a tad bit spicy, but not bad.

I had the Mousetrap(Tillamook cheddar, creamy havarti, Monterey jack on Artisan sourdough) and it was good, but not great. Good sourdough but the cheese was very chewy, not the ooey gooey sandwich I had in mind. The saving grace was their homemade sodas, I had the Watermelon Guava and I LOVED it! My friend had the Lavendar Honey soda and that was freaking refreshing. I noticed a lot of other people ordering salads and soups. I’d love to give this place another try because I love my cheese, but we’ll see.

I have lived in many big cities, and San Fran just has the best fresh bread. I think that’s what makes our sandwiches the best. American Grilled Cheese Kitchen has great grilled cheese. I like the Piglet and the Cubano. The butter on the bread really gives the bread a nice crunch. I like how their listed prices include tax and city fees, so what you see is what you get. 1 star off: The grilled cheese here is great, but at the end of the day, it is just a grilled cheese… Would I pay $ 10(including tax and city fees) for a grilled cheese often? Probably not.
