I live in Noe and this is my go to place for affordable Chinese take out. I love their chicken corn cream soup(never tasted anything like it anywhere else)! 4 stars for that soup and the reasonable prices. I don’t find the lady at the front counter rude at all. She might not have a bright chipper smile but she does her job quickly and efficiently. We started conversing in Cantonese after I’d been there a few times and she’s been pretty friendly, probably because she’s more comfortable speaking in her native tongue.

I’ve been coming here for years, my parents have brought us take out from here since I was about 12 years old. And although the women working here are called ‘rude’ and might scare off potential new customers, they are practical and just do their jobs. The food is okay, just basic, quick, and easily available — that’s why I gave it four stars. It’s a quick meal, quick take out, and efficient.

The woman at the front steam-trays has gotten nicer. Her style is matter-of-fact and efficient. While she’s not warm and bubbly, she’s not rude. She gave me a brief smile and quickly handed me my order for take-out. Love this place for a quick eat-in or take-out meal. We often phone-in for take-out, hot and ready for pickup in 15 minutes.

I am dying at the reviews of this place! I came in here before checking Unilocal and I couldn’t agree more… the lady at the counter literally acts pissed that someone would even come in to order food. Perhaps she is hoping they would not have any customers so they could go out of biz sooner. She was so rude, the food«to go» looked and tasted disgusting. I didn’t know that Chinese food could be worse than Panda Express! This place makes Panda look like a 5-star place. Do yourself a favor and don’t go here. Yuck! If you are going to sell bad food, at least give good service. I almost told the lady a smile never killed anybody.

The steam table food is about on par with Panda Express, maybe a step lower because they don’t do enough business to justify keeping freshly-cooked food flowing into the trays. The sit-down food in the back is much better, but is still oversweetened American-Cantonese food like you’d find in half the Chinese restaurants in the US. If you want staples like General Tso’s Chicken or sweet-and-sour pork, you will get them here. The food itself is worth two stars for quality, but they earn an extra star for the generous portion sizes.

I checked this place out as I was in the mood for some hot and sour soup and dumplings. It was convenient and quick for take-out. The pork potstickers were pretty meh — they were the last ones off the steam table and came with no dipping sauce — so I probably wouldn’t get them again. But the hot and sour soup was really good! It could have been a little spicier. $ 4.25 is also a little pricey for a pint(«small»), but I’ve found this is just generally the case in SF, and I was happy to be able to get that size at all(unlike some of the other places in the Noe area). I would definitely come back for the soup, and maybe try a different accompaniment.

I enjoyed the sweet and sour pork and the pork chow fun. Excellent ambiance. The décor could have been better

I just moved to the area and had walked past this restaurant on several occasions. Never thought it looked appealing because of the steam tables holding what looked to be stale, day old food. But I was having mad cravings for some Chinese food today and decided to give it a try. Don’t let the layout of the place deceive you. At first I thought this was a fast food style, take out joint only. Upon walking in I realized there is seating, where you can order off of a menu. The food was amazing. I had the hot and sour soup, beef chow fun and Emperor prawns. I am very picky about hot and sour soup, some places skimp out and just make it too eggy or too sweet. I must say it was perfect here! The sourness was there and it was filled with tofu, mushrooms, shrimp, etc. The beef chow fun was not greasy! Again, a problem I have with most chow fun dishes I’ve tried. Prawns were juicy and big! The service was also great. Everything came out very quickly. This is now one of my new favorite local joints. I will definitely be returning !

Similar to other reviews: average food, overly sweet, lady at the food bar doesn’t seem too excited about working there anymore.

Food is ok. But the lady serving the food at the take out is not friendly and seems bothered by the customers.

The Tung Sing Restaurant is a VERY good place for lunch and dinner. Its the very best chinese restaurant in the SF!!! Cindy and Alice are the best and nicest ordering ladies I have ever met. the food is tasty, and is always warm and seems fresh. I really like the fried rice and the chinese treats they sell. In my opinion, I really don’t understand why people put negative words in reviews. I think it is both disrespectful and rude. Anyways, it is clean and good to eat there on a date or just dinner, its my most favorite restaurant. I would recommend YOU to eat or pick up food there when you have a chance. It’s my most favorite restaurant, I rank it 5 stars!!!

Went for lunch. Terrible service. Nearly walked out twice. The potstickers were stinky and bland. The main course was luke warm and greasy. We weren’t even served water. Do yourself a favor and save your hard earned money and stay away from this terrible restaurant.

You know before you step inside this place what you’re getting. It’s cheap, it’s greasy, it’s from a steam table. Sometimes that’s simply just what you want and this place delivers on all three. Yes the woman is grumpy. Yes you fear for your general health. But take it for what it is, a cheap ‘post-couple of beers’ or ‘long day at work can’t be bothered cooking’ local greasy chinese joint — and if thats up your street then just grab something small and quick and savor the guilt.

I used to think highly of this place but there is another woman that works here that just seems bothered to have people coming into the restaurant. Please fix the attitude

This place left my mouth with a mean msg tingle long after I ate the food. There are not very many veggie options and the ones that they have are not worth the money.

Food was mediocre. The woman working was very rude. Walked in and nobody was there so I waited a few minutes until someone finally came out. I ordered then she said«wait» quickly after and walked off. When she gave me my food she just handed it to me and didn’t even say thank you. Will not be coming back. Thanks for the bad service and so-so food.

Okay so, Tung Sing is one of those Chinese establishments that sells to the public from a steam table in the front window. Not my favorite, though when my parents were alive, living across the street, they loved the convenience and the food. However, if you are ever enticed to the restaurant behind the take out area, and the wooden screens, you may find food that is made to order, and fabulous. After my folks departed, I have frequented the restaurant at Tung Sing MANY times. I am a native San Franciscan, and have known some of the best Chinese restaurants that ever existed here. There have been numerous, incredible restaurants that went out of business long ago, but I never forgot the taste of the food. Do yourself a favor and give Tung Sing Restaurant a thoughtful try.

Having a large family gathering at home? Want to keep the price down? Want to serve a tasty meal that everyone loves? We’ve had several good meals here before, and liked it, but now I needed take-out Chinese food for a party of 16. I called(ask for Cindy) and she suggested I come in to make arrangements. With her help, we picked 4 «crowd-pleaser» dishes, and she figured out the amount of food for our adult crowd. I was surprised at the low final price quoted, so she explained that on large orders like this, a large banquet tray of a dish is much more economical that 5 single orders of that same dish. Same amount of food, but less expense… Makes good sense! We arranged a 5:30 pick-up time for the next day. How was it? Perfect! The order was hot and ready, packed up nicely in large covered trays, and placed into our car by the friendly staff, at 5:30 sharp! What a hit! There was plenty of delicious food, everyone had seconds, and there was almost nothing left over. Cindy nailed it on the quantities! So, if you have a crowd, give her a call. I’m amazed at the low cost-per-person, but will leave that amount out of this review, as there are too many variables. So, have the whole group over, and let Cindy and the staff make it easy on you(and your wallet). Larry
