Where did it go? :( I loved that place. Very cheap, but great food. I was downtown the other day to find it gone. Why?

I’m here for a few days on business and was feeling the need for a good pizza so went to Eatz based on other Unilocal reviews. Not a hit for me. I ordered a «stone fruit» salad from the specials board and got a spinach and mushroom salad. I hate mushrooms. I love stone fruits. Bummer. My pizza, also from the specials list was advertised as having pesto with lots of fresh veggies. Sounded good. Sigh. The«pesto» was just finely ground parsley. Not basil, not pine nuts. Not garlic. If they had said parsley pesto I would have ordered something else. So, disappointing. I won’t return to Eatz. Sorry.

The service was slow despite the restaurant being devoid of all customers. Our meals were overpriced and unsatisfactory. It was expensive for a place that doesn’t actually serve you. For a $ 16 sandwich you could have a waiter. The tater tots were excellent, but we were dismayed to find that one order only included three tots. In summary, I would not recommend this restaurant when there are many other adequate restaurants available in the area. For a candid video review go to 5:06 at

Restaurant will be opening Monday 2÷18÷13. I was invited for a friends and family tasting. Floor manager Amanda gave a great introduction and staff was very attentive. Food was delicious. I tasted the Mac & Cheese with bacon, DIY pizza, kale chips, tater tots and for dessert chocolate crunch bar filled with marshmallow and caramel! The food was amazing!

This was the first stop for my wife and I on our tour of SLO. Staff was all quite friendly and the setting is pretty cool. We enjoyed some people watching on their front patio. We split a pizza that was waaayyyy too easy to eat. Fresh flavors and a thin crust make for something to inhale rather than savor. Still good and reasonably priced – which is perfect for the college student who only has enough money for one meal per day. It didn’t blow me away(which would have notched it up a star) but I enjoyed the meal. Worth a drop in if you’re new to the area or just visiting.

LOVE the Gluten Free Pizzas at Eatz! As many topping as you want, not your standard cheese choices(much more gourmet options such as goat or gorgonzola), and their pesto sauce is so good. Also, their kale chips are a must try at only $ 1. Added bonus is they didn’t charge us a corkage fee for bringing our own wine. They’re never super busy when I have gone in, I hope this place lasts.

This place is good, I guess. The pizza was really good actually. The crust has that great wood-fired oven taste to it. The salads also looked amazing. The mac & cheese appetizer was lacking cheese and didn’t have very much mac. But seriously, there was almost no cheese! It tasted like plain pasta and bread crumbs(their«bacon crust» that goes on top of the mac & cheese was all bread crumbs and two tiny bits of bacon). Other things to note: they serve wine and beer. Their seating area in back is pretty cool… but there is an unfortunate odor that wafts in from Chipotle… something about all the grease they use. Also, make sure they’ve actually got what you want to order before you set your heart on it(my first and second options were not available: the tater tots and the potato salad!) Overall, I would come here again… but only if we needed to use their large seating area in the back for a big group or something.

Definitely a hidden gem in SLO. Yes, it’s downtown, but it’s surprising not as many people know about this place! FOOD First of all… a whole pizza for around $ 8??? Great for my college budget, but not so great for my college stomach. Anyways, I ordered a customized pizza. Reminds me of pieology(a restaurant that does the same thing). I piled my pizza high with toppings: white sauce, garlic sauce, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, parm cheese, tomatoes, bacon, chicken, onion jam(SOGOOD), and more! Can’t wait to go back and try their sandwiches and kale chips. SERVICE The owner is super nice, and the girl at the cash register was great at recommending things to put on my pizza. We kind of liked the same stuff too, so that helped. ATMOSPHERE When I walked in, I had no idea that it had an entire back room for people to eat. This place has a great personality, just like their staff.

First of all, let me start with the good: the atmosphere here is wonderful, the staff are friendly and responsive, and for the most part the food is quite good. I had a pesto chicken pizza that was flavorful and large enough to take home leftovers, with a light crispy crust that I loved. I also had the house-made pickle plate(pickled onion, carrot, green bean, cauliflower and thin-sliced cucumber) that definitely said«pickle» without being overwhelmingly vinegary. What cost Eatz that fifth star were the kale chips, which I was really looking forward to and which were, unfortunately, almost indelibly salty. Still, I had a good meal for a good price, and I’d definitely come back.

Great meal for a great price! Generous salad portion with great dressing. Design your own pizza is the way to go. I recommend the hand-stretched(thicker) crust, and bacon onion jam for starters. Add all your favorites, and I’m sure you’ll love it! So yummy!

Definitely a restaurant that has put more work into décor and plating than the palatability of their menu. Had dinner here based on the glowing reviews of other Unilocalers — great location on Higuera downtown, very clean interior, lots of seating, a roomy patio, very kind service and an easy-to-read menu. While not particularly expansive, item descriptions set expectations pretty high. Par example: The SLO ‘pepperoni’ — tomato & garlic oil, bay leaf cream, double local alle pia calabrese, i.e. an 8″ in diameter cheeseless pizza with some cured meat on it. $ 8. Also tried the Baked Tuscan Bean Gratin($ 3), which is a bread crumb gratin(culinary speak for«topping»), not a cheese gratin that you’re probably used to. The beans had their little translucent skins on them, making them almost gag-worthy. I kind of had the same experience with the wilted kale/spinach pile that came with the Chicken Porchetta($ 6). The greens were entirely lacking of seasoning and texture, and I sort of felt like I was choking them down by the end of the meal. The chicken itself, however, was good. Plating is phenomenal, but the food pales in comparison. Don’t think I’ll be returning here anytime soon.

looks better on paper… menu looked very appetizing and the items ordered looked great as we carried it to the spacious back eating area. but the Bacon and Egg pizza suggested by the counter staff was a bit of a let down. the pizza was bland and dry. it doesn’t come with sauce and cheese, should of had them add it. i think that would of made it more enjoyable. we also had their Braised Beef Sandwich. it tasted good, but the buns were soggy from the au jus. the stand out of the meal were the Tater Totz, those were pretty good. in any case, it filled our bellies when we were hungry. might give ‘em another try.

Absolutely loving this place! The food is amazing and presented in 5 star restaurant style! I have had the vegetarian lasagna twice and each time it was a good size. You’d think for the price the portion would have been smaller. I also have had their kale chips which are tasty and a healthy option. The roasted carrots were amazing and I just wish it was a bigger serving of them! So nicely glazed and cooked perfectly. My friends meatballs and chicken sandwich looked very tasty. They have more seating in the back of the restaurant complete with a little water fall and pictures of fresh produce from a local farm. I am very impressed and can’t wait to try more things!

i’m still not 100% sure about this place… I know they’re new and trying to work out some kinks, but the experience threw me for a loop. The presentation of the food is pretty amazing for the price point; however I wasn’t impressed by the food itself. The friendliness and knowledge of the staff left a lot to be desired. I would recommend checking it out, but don’t go in with high expectations. Skip the pizza, and go for some of their other dishes instead.

Eatz is a new foodery in the Wineman building in downtown SLO. The place offers an interesting variety of sandwiches, pizzas, side items and other foods(including daily specials). I stopped in last weekend and had the braised beef sandwich and a side of macaroni and cheese. Everything was AMAZING. The braised beef was so tender, it was just melting there on the bun. And the mac n’ cheese side was great, too. All of this stuff was definitely fresh and definitely gourmet level. But not snobby gourmet. Just GOOD. The only reason I didn’t go five stars has to do more with me than it does with Eatz(which is perhaps not so fair to Eatz, but I digress…). I’m a bit of a soda fiend(yeah, I know, I need to work on that) and(regardless of the beverage at hand) I tend to drink a lot while I’m eating. Eatz sells bottled drinks, and they serve(what I’m pretty sure is, in terms of size) 12-ounce Mexican Cokes. And while I do appreciate the sugar-cane powered goodness of foreign-made sodas, I’d like to have a little more than 12 ounces of it for my meal. Fortunately, Eatz offers a complementary cold-water station in the dining area, so I was able to supplement my lack of soda with some good, clean H2O. My entire meal was right around $ 15.00, which is beyond fair for a meal of this quality at an establishment located in the heart of downtown. In reality, the sandwich and side were probably too much food, and next time, I may just go with a sandwich. Oh, and also. They spell«eats» with a Z. That kinda rules all on its own.

In a nutshell: Delicious, inexpensive food that looks like it came from a more pricey, classy restaurant. The details: I came here with a friend, and we both wanted to try it out, since it’s new. They have specials of the day by the register and this large menu up towards the ceiling. I had to stand a little bit farther back to see the menu, and I was really surprised at their prices! $ 6 for an entrée? How small is this thing? Am I going to be satiated? Giving it an opportunistic go, I order the chicken pancetta. The cashier also lists some of the desserts. $ 3 for crème brûlée? Sure… I’ll give it a shot. I didn’t see the list of desserts on the menu, but it wasn’t until after I paid that I noticed it was on the side. *Some reviewers said that they went down a line telling the chef what they wanted. Not in my case! All I did was order at the register. I guess that’s for other times of the day or for other menu items? They give me a buzzer, which isn’t always a good sign, because it might mean a long wait, but it’s a lot better than yelling a number or name out. See, I’m a little skeptical of this place… I wait maybe 5 – 10 minutes for my meal. In the meantime, I pick up some water behind me, and some napkins, which are really thick! I feel like they could pick up a spilled glass of water in one swipe. When the buzzer rings, I’m not sure where to go, but then I realize I go towards the back of the restaurant where she has my order ready. I stare at the meal for a little bit, because 1) Wow, the plating is beautiful 2) Why are they serving it on an industrial looking tray? and 3) it really is small… I wait for my friend’s order(I wish they were ready at similar times!) for a little while longer. Unfortunately, the dining area in the back is under renovation, so we choose to sit outside at the front. It’s such a beautiful day in SLO, so why not? I dig into the chicken, and OHGOODNESS, ITISSODELICIOUS!!! The beautifully breaded chicken gives off a nice crunch. The pancetta is interspersed in the roulade, giving me an explosion of flavors. The balsamic vinaigrette juices are just the right amount, not too heavy and not too strong. I really dislike warm spinach salads, which they gave me, but they made it taste surprisingly delicious! Before I knew it, I finished my entrée, and was feeling satisfied. Satisfied in the sense, where it was just the right portion size. My skepticism of a small meal disappeared, and really, $ 6 for that? AMAZING! I move onto the crème brûlée. My friend has never had one before, so I let her puncture the beautifully torched crusted sugar topping. The pudding is soft and savory. And they use REAL vanilla beans in there! Who does that these days? People usually use vanilla extract! What a touch!(I’m definitely going to give their other desert menu items a go!). Across from me, my friend has fallen in love with her pizza burger(special for $ 9). I had a couple bites, and it was so delicious! It was so filling that she could only eat half. We walked out of the place feeling extremely happy to eat such yummy food. We were both surprised with the quality of the food, the presentation, the taste, and the freshness. I came in several weeks before they opened, and talked to one of the guys who owns this restaurant. They use fresh ingredients that they buy from local farmers! Awesome! And it looks like they have culinary-trained chefs in the back. Now, I don’t say this too often, but I am definitely bringing my family here when they come visit! Definitely a gem in my book!

I work downtown and frequent this young restaurant on my lunch hour. My first time here, I was a little shocked at how empty it appeared — more on that later. The ordering is different then most, and that’s in a good way. You talk to one of the chefs who take your order, which I typically order the«Pizza of the Moment» but substitute onions for sun dried tomatoes. After you design your pizza, you head over to the main register and pay for your food. They hand you a buzzer, but it acts more like a number card you place on the table’s edge to have your food delivered to your seat — which is pretty awesome! Earlier I mentioned that the place seemed empty? There is a massive area in the back that was filled with people. It’s naturally lit, and has an inviting and clean atmosphere to the dinning room. My pizza arrived, now mind you — this is fresh dough, with some of the best looking ingredients i’ve ever seen in a quick-to-eat place. It was so good! About 5 minutes is all it takes from ordering, to paying, to devouring your delicious pizza! Eatz has more than just pizza, and I must say — the Chicken Porchetta, Kale Chips, and Totz are amazing! Finally affordable, high-quality food and service, and so close to work! I highly recommend this place, 5⁄5 on so many levels!

Who would have known that brussels sprouts, garlic, mascarpone, mozzarella and other seemly random ingredients could taste so good on a pizza! I don’t know the name but it was one of their specials for the day. I just want to go back and try new random pizzas. I also got the tater tots. It comes with three homemade tater tots that have a really delicious sauce on them. I was expecting more to share, but oh well now I know. It was a little expensive for the amount of food they give you, but I guess they are going more for quality and personalizing your own pizzas. The seating area is so nice and roomy and it is a great place to hang out. It would also be a nice study place if they would allow it. The servers are really nice and are patient with choosing what you want on your pizza. I am definitely looking forward to going back.

I’ll start with the good: * The food was delicious for the most part. I had the tater tots, meatballs, cabbage, and mac n’ cheese. The tots were truly amazing, the meatballs and cabbage were very good, and the mac n’ cheese was ok. * The people were all very friendly. And now for the bad: * The food is way overpriced for the portions. For $ 16 I got 3 tater tots(yes, 3), ¼ cup of mac n’ cheese, ¼ cup of cabbage, 2 small meatballs, and a diet coke. Everyone at my table was laughing pretty hard because when they bring it to you it is all on these tiny little dishes on a huge tray. It seems a little ridiculous. * The ordering experience is a bit wonky. First you order with one person, then go to a second register where they actually punch in your order, then go to a third register where they offer you add-ons like tater tots and you pay. It feels a bit awkward. The pizza portions were pretty good but people ended up paying around $ 12 for what looked to be pretty simliar pizzas to Pizza Solo, which is much cheaper and at least equally delicious. I think this place has some promise but they need to either lower prices or increase the portion size. The food itself is awesome, I just hope they change a few things so it makes more sense to go here.
