If you are looking for good, hot food served by mentally alert waiters… this is not the place. I waited over 10 minutes for a waiter to take the order. Small chicken fried steak plate with broccoli and salad. They were out of Caesar dressing at noon so I opted for Italian dressing on a Caesar Salad. The second time he came to check my order, I opted for the same as the first. Finally the tea order arrived and I waited for food. After 10 minutes or so I got the Caesar Salad with Italian dressing… odd but ok. Finished the salad and waited… and waited… people who ordered long after I did were served. I waited some more while the social butterfly of a waiter visited with other customers who had finished. Finally, I was served the chicken fried steak and broccoli… cold. Nothing is quite as tasteless as cold chicken fried steak with cold gravy on top. Paid the bill and left and as I did, the butterfly waiter was by the door. I told him that was the coldest most disgusting food and service I had received in a long time. The look on this TSU student’s face was of shock and disbelief… or as I view it, typical of today’s TSU students. Over all… bad food and worse service.

Pros: Food was pretty good, big portions for the price, kind and attentive waitstaff, quiet atmosphere, and a local, family owned feel Cons: Bathrooms could stand to be renovated, looks a little rough around the edges aesthetically My SO and I recently moved near Henry’s and decided to try it for a late lunch. The restaurant looks a little rough around the edges, with a mix of what looks like newer renovations sprinkled into what’s obviously an older local business. But, when it comes to food, price, and service, Henry’s does a pretty good job at all three. If you’re looking for a comfortable, quiet atmosphere with some pretty good food, this is your place.

A-ok first visit: $ 16.23 pre-tip for two breakfast plates, coffee, and milk. Cons: Bit of a wait for orders/check and a little heavy on the salt Pros: Generous portions. Waitstaff fill coffee, bring extra napkins without being asked and check back often once you have your food. Nice variety of options(including vegetarian) on the menu. I got the carne guisada plate which came with beans, scrambled eggs, home fries and buttered toast. Must have been three eggs included! lt was a great platter, and even better when you consider the price. No, the meat won’t be featured in Le Michelin but it was decent and I can’t remember the last time I saw it as a menu option in a general diner. Home fries were wonderfully oven-crispy and we both commented how much we liked them. Nice fat toast, not the sad mummified shingles one sometimes gets. Would happily try this place again.

The service, quality of food and value are all lacking. The salads are basically just lettuce and a little tomato. No cheese, No carrots, nothing and not cheap. Getting a refill on coffee is almost impossible. Waitresses are no friendly. I hear the service is better in Lockhart.

The Jalapeño queso burger is the best! However, the service is not as great. I have called in to make to go orders and they have forgot about it a few times. Some entrees are too salty. Other than that, it located at a great location and a lot of parking.

UPDATE: 1-star. Fairly certain this place wouldn’t not pass a health inspection — tables are rarely clean; just a quick peek into the bussing area will turn your stomach and the restrooms… are in worst that when you think of a stereotypical truck stop/gas station. I shudder to think of the kitchen area. When I say – break out the clorox and give this place a good disinfecting from top to bottom… back to front… I mean this sincerely and literally. ORIGINAL: 2-stars. This would be an awesome local diner… just needs a good scrubbing with bleach(if it needs it out front and in the bathrooms… it makes you wonder about the kitchen) and the waitstaff requires training on serving efficiency and bussing/table cleanliness. Will update if things change. Make sure you are simple and clear on your order… they dont write things down and things often come out incorrect.

Service was good or I would have given 1 star. Veggie Omelet had burnt onions and mushrooms, not tasty at all. Wheat toast was dry and no butter on it and none was given with it. Husband had a biscuit with his breakfast and got butter on the side with his. The potatoes tasted like fried pieces of leftover baked potatoes from the night before. Ick!

Terrible terrible service and terrible food! Our server brought our food towards the end, and forgot to mention that they were out of one of my sides. Our server was rude and forgetful, didn’t even ask for MY drink order, just everyone else. Food was cold, and tasteless! Will definitely not be coming back again to this trash place

This was the worst place I have eaten at in San Marcos! We ordered the trio appetizer and it looked like a bunch of randomly placed frozen food they put in the deep fryer and threw on a plate. NOTHINGWASFRESH!

So I had the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and broc.. So the chicken is the lowest grade of chicken possible and the texture shows it. The mashed potatoes are probably box potatoes, because that is their texture. Broc. was alright, but nothing special. I originally wanted fries and chicken sandwhich, but the fries are not gluten free(have a coating on them) and so no point getting my chicken sandwhich wrapped in lettuce without fries lol . Now my mom says the cheeseburgers and fries are the best in town. granted I haven’t had a burger in seven years or so. so wouldnt know? So check other reviews and see. The customer service was great though… They do have traditional breakfast choices, mexican plates and more. I do plan to try something different next time I go… I can always re-rate in a few months.

Service was good Had to ask for breakfast menus at 1230 on a Sunday Omelettes were decent, a little dry. Way too much butter on the toast and muffins Very skimpy on the potatoes Pancakes were big but quite«heavy» Decent spot for quick typical diner food Will try for lunch

The food is good the only problem is they like to charge for extra items not given and they won’t do anything about it sometimes when the owners son is not there it is horrible service but if the owners son is there everything is ok

The service was exceptional and the meal served promptly and hot. I had the Salisbury steak and a side of onion rings. I simply asked the waitress to bring me her favorite. The meal was good and less salt and I go five stars. For the price and proximity to Lower Purgatory Park, I will return.

Thanks again Unilocal. This is a Great non chain restaurant. Service is outstanding. I had their grilled shrimp tacos, wife had chopped sirloin, daughter had chicken sandwich. All came out hot. Total with 3 ice teas. $ 31.65. So a nice place. Clean. Good food. Good service.

One of, if not the, best breakfasts in San Marcos, and their dinner options are also great. We’ve been coming to Henry’s for a while now, but only recently realized that they serve breakfast all day. Today for lunch we all had breakfast, and it was all fantastic. The staff is also unfailingly friendly and professional, and the ambiance is just right — casual and comfortable like a diner should be, but also clean and interesting, with a bit more of an upscale look than most similar establishments. Put it all together and we’re going to be even more regular regulars than we were before.

We’ve enjoyed Henrys on many occasions, tonight was not one of them. Everything we ordered, except the fish, was from frozen food service packaging. On previous visits everything was fresh made. We were extremely disappointed tonight.

Everything they serve here is AWESOME. The chips and salsa are homemade and amazing. The fried catfish is as good as any catfish I’ve ever had.

We come out often for dinner. This was our third attempt at breakfast. The ceiling fans were blowing full force that my coffee was cold in almost an instant. We had to pack up the two kids and move tables as turning down the fans was not an option. I ordered the American breakfast with ham. I complained to the waitress that the ham was so thin I could see through it and it was 2inches by 3 inches in size. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy… which I had to include a picture of… had the sausage grease floating in it. So although dinner has been great, I will avoid coming here or recommending Henry’s for breakfast.

Service was great. I believe our server was Ankea(Sorry about that. I lost the receipt.) The food was good, not great and reasonably priced. However, I’ll be back because not only was our wait person friendly, cordial and attentive but so were her co-works. One walked by a saw my drink was low and offered a refill.

My significant other & I decided to try out Henry’s this evening. This location seems to be jinxed & I was really hoping that Henry’s would break the curse. However, our experience leaves me feeling that Henry’s will go the way of its predecessors. I understand that it’s not fine dining. It’s a greasy spoon diner. So with that in mind, the fact that tortilla chips were dripping in grease shouldn’t surprise me. But they were so greasy, the paper liner was completely soaked/saturated with grease. The biggest hurdle Henry’s faces is that you can get better Mexican, Italian, Steaks, Seafood & Burgers elsewhere in San Marcos & for the same price. The servers & management were so courteous & kind. I feel bad that the food just didn’t measure up. Henry’s needs to throw out these bland recipes. We’re going to give them another try & come for breakfast. Maybe they’ll be better.
