George & Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grille

So if its after a certain hour and you arrive on the island and you have a family and your hotel tells you to go here maybe don’t. After I’m guessing 9 you can only sit in the bar section which was loud and rowdy with a really bad live musician. However when I say the food and service was super I really mean it. I do not believe in hyperbole on Unilocal.Idve given 5 stars if we could have been seated in the non frat house section with our family. My younger kids were traumatized by the drunkenness of the patrons there.

Very good restaurant for the family. Gotta get the tuna nachos. 2^nd time back and have not been disappointed.

Best food and service on the Island!!! Everything our family ordered was excellent. The waitress was very helpful in suggesting menu items. Lively atmosphere and a true vacation experience. My new favorite restaurant at my yearly vacation spot.

Excellent lunch here the other day! We visited during a slow time of day, and they seemed a bit short staffed because I think the manager waited on us. He did so happily and graciously. Food was excellent — had the shrimp po boy and mahi. Both fresh, presented simply and elegantly.
Nice interior, not too casual not too fancy. Very sensitive and knowledgeable to allergies as well — always a plus for my family. Thanks to the owners — keep up the good work, we will definitely return !

A pleasant supprise had apps & drinks at 3 different restaurants last night & wound up here. Had the Friday night fish fry for 15 $ & it was great. My wife had a 25 $ steak that was cooked perfectly mid rare. Drinks were good. & they had a band. They also stay open late which is hard to find on the island.

We stopped in here late into our trip. We wish we had done so sooner. If you like clean/​unprocessed fresh food then look no further on the island. This place has great salads and you can add blackend chicken to really make a lunch. We ate here twice as its probably the only place on the island with quick/​fresh and reasonably priced food. We will be back!

I absolutely love this place– the wings were out of sight and the service was amazing. Very accommodating, great drinks! Those were some of the best sweet potato fries I had ever had hands down! Will DEFINITELY go back!

Maybe we were here on an off night. Everything was just «ok» although the Unilocal reviews had us expecting more. We had seafood gumbo, grilled shrimp tacos and fried shrimp tacos. It just didn’t do it for us. The bread was great though.
The Sprite and frozen margarita were way off. Tasted like seawater. The regular water tasted fine though.
We’ll give it another try this week.

After a couple of days of business in SW Florida, time to vacation. Always wanted to come to Sanibel Island and here was our chance.
We wanted a waterfront restaurant but we couldn’t find and so we stopped at «George and Wendy’s» for dinner. Unilocal reviews seemed good so here we are.
We chose to sit on the patio. The inside has their bar and just seemed a little loud for us. Probably would have sat outside anyway because it’s a beautiful evening.
So let’s start with service: Our waiter Carmen, was great. Seemed like he was covering every table on the patio and did a great job. Never seemed overwhelmed and he moved smoothly from table to table filling everyone’s needs.
The Food: I had the lobster Fettuccine, their signature dish, and it met all expectations.
My wife had the scallops or the simply seafood dish. She loved it.
I want to give this 5 stars. So why 4 stars you ask. Well first I asked a food runner for another napkin. B T W they are paper napkins. I know, it’s a casual restaurant but I just prefer cloth napkins. So anyway after I asked for the napkin the food runner walked inside and never came back. Maybe he got called to something else but unfortunately the miss reflects on the restaurant. Sorry. Our waiter fixed that problem in short order.
The only other problem was a couple of obnoxious diners at an adjacent table. Obviously this is not the restaurants problem.
If ever in the area again, I will definitely eat at this restaurant. Obnoxious diners or not.

There are three distinct areas at George & Wendy’s. As you approach, you walk by the outdoor seating, which is posted as dog friendly. Inside, there is a bar area to the left and a dining room to the right. When we arrived just before 4:00 pm this Saturday, we were seated at a table in the bar.
We ordered Grouper Tacos ($ 17) and a Chicken Sandwich ($ 12).

The fish used in the Grouper Tacos was unlike any grouper I’ve been served. Neither the taste nor the texture was as expected. The fish had a fishy taste. Three tacos came with small portions of rice and beans, which were fine but you can’t really expect rice and beans to carry a meal.

My husband said his chicken sandwich was ok. Searching for something positive to say, he indicated that the chicken wasn’t dry. The fries that came with his meal were a crispy battered variety. No complaints with the fries.
Final Assessment: We expected a better experience based on reviews. Perhaps we arrived at the worst possible time? Maybe — but that’s a tough sell. If we go back, we’ll try something else from the menu.

One of the shorter waits during peak spring break time, so took a chance on a new restaurant, from our traditional go to’s. Was seated in the back dining area away from the bar. Very different seating environment from the bar area where it is louder and lots of action, near the bathrooms in the dining area is is quiet and not quite as lively. Maybe it would have been different if we sat elsewhere, but just a little plain and not that island atmosphere like some of our other favorites.
Server (Torrey) was very friendly, outgoing, and attentive. He was constantly moving and covering several tables with great service. Food was good, we ordered a mixture from fish tacos, prime rib special, bisque. Everything was very good.

My wife and I went here while on vacation and were so impressed by the food and the service. Where I disagree with fellow « Unilocalers» is the price range, this is definitely upscale and a $$$ expense, not complaining, just want others who visit not to be surprised by the cost.
The food was excellent, fresh seafood was my pick, excellently good and presented… If my wife and I are ever back in that area we will most definitely return

We have never visited here before and tried this place based on Unilocal reviews. We were so pleased with our dinner! We had crab cakes, fried pickles, New England clam chowder, Caesar salad, coconut shrimp and drunken grouper and EVERYTHING was PHENOMENAL. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a top quality meal!

Fresh salads! Easy to order kids menu, and good drinks. Staff is warm, friendly, and extremely patient! Definitely come back here again. Ask for Tiffany if you stop by.

Wow. I was surprised how good this was. Incredible fish tacos– grouper actually. Perfectly prepared with a wonderful sauce.
Great cocktails and some pleasant surprises on the wine list.
Even the service was good. I may have found my new favorite restaurant on this island.

On the outside the restaurant has a very tropical feel (hammock, tiki torches, Adirondack chairs). As soon as we opened the doors we can hear TVs blasting… football. Oh yeah, it’s Sunday! To the right of the entrance is a dining area with lots of tables, no TVs, and only 1 table was taken. To the left of the entrance is the bar area with lots of TVs and LOTS of patrons. We chose a high top with a good view of some TVs and planted our butts.
After looking over the menu I decided to stick with the Tuna Nachos I saw on Unilocal.From the description, it sounds delish and rather big. I asked my bf to share with me, but he doesn’t like to eat raw fish. A bit later a server informed us of the cheaper bar menu during football games. Lo and behold, a smaller Tuna Nachos is on it. Yippie! I wasn’t too hungry so in addition I got a cup of «Clam Chowdah».
The Tuna Nachos was quite good. The fried wonton wrappers is an excellent substitute for nacho chips, although it did get too oily towards the end. The seaweed salad adds a slight freshness to the creamy rich dish. This dish is unique and is a must try. The Clam Chowder was rich and creamy and good as well. I can’t put my finger on it, but it’s a little different than other clam chowders I’ve had before. Overall, I quite enjoyed my dishes.
On the contrary, my bf’s order was just so-​so. One of the things he got was Calamari, which was oily and average tasting. He also ordered a Pepperoni Flatbread, which was exactly like a pizza rather than flatbread. The crust is thick and the ingredients don’t taste fresh. It looked like it came from a box and it tasted it too. The only thing he did like was the Ginger-​Rita.
In our opinion, there’s nothing that makes George & Wendy’s stand out. We probably wouldn’t have gone there had there been more restaurant options on the island. I give George & Wendy’s 4 star for the lively Sunday football atmosphere and 3 star for the mediocre food.

I enjoyed the seafood and live music at Gorge and Wendy’s last night. I had the Seafood Pasta, it had lots of seafood and it had the option of white or red sauce. I chose the white and it was really light and buttery.
Their complimentary bread was really delicious with herby olive oil. The chowder was full of clams and very delicious.
The grouper sandwich was below average for the island (our favorite is at the Sanibel Bar and Grill). Blackened fish tacos lacked blackened flavoring, but the black beans and rice with that were a huge hit. Medium wings got rave reviews from our non-​seafood lover, recommended for a carry out, left overs were still good.
The music was a solo guitarist singing popular covers that were enjoyable for a dinner, at first the hostess seated us way too close, literally right in front of the singer, but our waiter could tell we needed to be moved back so we could hear each other.
There was a slight issue which we can not shake/​figure out where our server tried to charge us for an extra drink, and when we told him, he was so quick to jump to take back the check and fix the total, that it was almost like he knew he had done it.
Overall, their menu was huge and that is usually a red flag for me. I want a restaurant to focus on a few dishes and do them well, and this is not that kind of place. They have some gluten free options and I would say its kid friendly, which might be good for some, but that is just not for me. I am kind of confused which this place is so highly rated on the island, I won’t be rushing back any time soon.

Crabcakes were small and just ok. The waitress raved about them. I disagree. Onion rings not that great. I question the homemade part. Seemed like crunchy ore ida ones. Not very crowded, service was decent. Overpriced. Wouldn’t go back. I saw others not eating their complete meal and leaving abruptly.
3 stars fits the bill. 20 bucks for this and an iced tea!

Excellent, road trip en Floride, de passage à Sanibel, nous nous sommes arrêtés dans ce restau., carte bien fourni, personnel agréable et c’est bon et frais. Bref pas d’hésitation.

Leckeres essen, nette Bedienung, amerikanische Küche mit italienischem Touch. Anfangs gibt es ein wirklich leckeres kleines Weißbrot mit Pesto. Im Vergleich zu dem sonstigen Ami Weißbrot wirklich göttlich.
