Passed by and screeched to a stop. Intrigued, I coaxed my friend to step inside with me. He remarked, «you know, I’ll beat you, right?» In my mind I thought«yeah right.» In an atmosphere where actions speak louder than words, I could hardly wait to see what happened. The set up was fairly simple. One person = $ 5.00 for 15 minutes. My friend handed over his credit card. Apparently that does not work here unless you have $ 15 in charges. I pulled out my $ 10 cash for both of us and we got started. The owner gave us each a slot car which we placed on the curvy track. What was cool was that the car colors given matched the raceway. Orange car for me, orange track. Green car for him, green track. Dave the owner demonstrated how the remote control gun operation worked. They are attached by a cable, connected to the track, no brakes. It was fairly straightforward. Press with your fingers to start the cars and release to slow them down. The digital display on the computer would track our progress. On your mark, get set, ready, go. Vroom vroom, off we went. I started out very slow, my orange car lagged behind his green car. With each successive lap, I gained confidence. Faster and faster, round and round I went. Gleeful as I was, a couple times my car flew off the track in an effort to beat the clock sort of speak(digital readout) and my friend’s car. I learned to slow down around the curves and speed along the straightaway. After a while, my friend’s car suddenly stop in it’s tracks. His car was taken off the track to see what the trouble was. Meanwhile I sped around, lap after lap, having fun. Soon enough his car was repaired and he was back on the track. We zoomed, we raced, I overlapped him, joyful as I was, my car flew off the track a couple more times. He stayed on the racetrack for the most part. I asked him if he was having fun. He announced«I’m concentrating.» Dave the owner added on a bonus of 5 more minutes, so we actually got 20 minutes for $ 5.00 He even gave my friend additional time since his car got stuck. All in all I had a blast. I asked Dave how it went. He said to me «you were faster». Inside I gloated. Then my friend said«but your car flew off the track so many times we would have been dead. At least we would have lived in my car.» I had to admit he was right. This is a great place to put your friendship or kinship to the test. Also a nice place to take the young or old. Those who want to enjoy the thrilling days of yesteryear, might get a kick out of this. Inside are 2 pinball machines and a PacMan or is it Ms. Pacman game consoles and a drag racetrack too.

This is the first time I have ever written a revue but here we go. I was on vacation in Santa Barbara and found the local hobby shop in town. I have to say I was really impressed, it has been a long time since I had seen a hobby shop like this one. I am used to going in to hobby shops and seeing more Rc stuff then anything else, but Hobby Central has got a wonderful selection of plastics(Which I Love) trains and more. I will have to say if you are going to Santa Barbara it is a must to visit.

I have been to this hobby shop many times. They guys that work in there know their stuff and want to help. I have about 10 friends that have all bought electric sailplanes from this shop. I have purchased a helicopter(now destroyed), and simulator for my computer from these guys. I had trouble getting the simulator setup with the controller on my laptop so i took it in and they finished the setup for me. great service!
