Santa Rosa Dance Theater

This dance theater has been the best thing for my 3 year old daughter who is so excited about ballet! Miss Stephanie is wonderful with the little ones, keeping them entertained and engaged throughout the entire class. I love the formality of the class while still being fun and enjoyable for the kids. I have several friends who have signed up their little ones who have also found success here. I would highly recommend this program!

I enrolled my 3 year old daughter into the Pre-​Ballet class. As she LOVES to dance, I thought this would be a great fit for her. After 3 weeks of taking the class we received a phone call asking us to not bring her back until January to see if she is ready then because she was unable to stand on a sticker for 45 minutes. My daughter is lively and imaginative and sometimes has a hard time focusing, but she is 3. To be kicked out of a ballet class geared for 3 – 5 year olds is absurd. What does this do to a little one’s self esteem? We called back to discuss the matter with the owner and recommended they have a class designed just for 3 year olds to help them understand and learn the criteria and expectations of the older classes, we were told, «Someday, when you own your ballet class, you can try that». We also found out that a friend of the family had taken a class here when she was 8 and they told her that «she did not have the body of a ballerina». That brings me back to my self esteem comment. What are they trying to teach here? Robots? Stepford Ballerinas? After this whole issue, I am glad my daughter is no longer apart of this charade and have now joined The Susan Lopez School of Dance, where there is a much more relaxed, fun atmosphere geared for children.

This is an excellent dance studio with instructors from major companies. Their ballet program is especially strong, but they also have classes in modern, jazz, hip hop and tap. My daughter loves it!
