Visiting from Atlanta and was looking for some good food for lunch. Saw the Unilocal post and figured I would try it out. Best decision! The ox tails were delicious. Very nice staff. Small but mighty spot. Recommend!

Excellent, fresh, authentic taste. I had the sampler of oxtail, curry goat and stew chicken which was deliscious. Service was also exceptional and friendly. Atmosphere was clean and tidy. Will definitely visit again.

This was a jerk chicken experience. The meat was full of zest and flavor. The vegetables were fresh and delicious. I will always keep this location in mind.

Jerk chicken, ox tails and mac and cheese are very good. Small restaurant with limited seating. Quality of service depends entirely on how busy they are.

Lured in by the ecstatic Unilocal reviews, we decided to try this little hole-in-the-wall, which was conveniently close to our hotel. The pineapple-ginger juice was amazing — the best thing we had! Oddly, this juice seems to be missing from the menu, but we knew to order it from the reviews. I got the 3 meat sampler, and we thought the curry goat and oxtail were good, tasty, and well seasoned. The beef stew was just OK. I got roti on the side, which was interestingly layered inside with turmeric-colored dry material that we couldn’t quite identify, unlike any other roti I’ve had. Went great with the curry. The rice was also good. My wife got the jerk chicken, which was disappointing. It was very tender, apparently from a lengthy brining, but tasted mostly of salt, with little chicken flavor and with only a very mild jerk seasoning with no heat and little flavor. She didn’t enjoy the plantains(more like sweet bananas, not starchy plantains) or johnny cakes(sort of like hushpuppies, but sweet and made of wheat flour dough) either. The vibe is down-home and friendly. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in the area!

Had some delicious Caribbean food at a place we found online. On our way to Ashley Gorman’s wedding in St Simon… The Jerk chicken was off the chain good and my wives fried shrimp hit the mark. The homemade mac & cheese was scrumptious #caribbean Prices are very reasonable and the service friendly and welcoming. A must place to go in Pooler

The dream of «hole in the wall» places. Friendly and very clean space. The food is fantastic! We had the meat patty(a pastry stuffed with spicy beef… What is not to like!). Goat curry, shrimp curry, and oxtail stew were all good and authentic. The star, however, was the chicken jerk, especially the dark meat! Melt in your mouth tender, and nicely spiced, though not too hot! The Mac and cheese side rocks! The other sides(rice, roti, plantains) were functional and good, but definitively shadowed by the fantastic chicken.

We just left sweet spice. When we arrived we were greeted by Angelina, a very charismatic staff member. She was very insightful about recommending the jerk chicken which was incomparable to any other I have had. The plantains were roasted to perfection and the Mac and cheese followed by the carrots and cabbage were also delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone I know. I joked with my boyfriend and said«I want them to cater every event in my life» and yes I do count Monday — Sunday as events. Long story short this place needs to be the next big thing.

Super friendly, got to meet the owner as we we’re finishing up… came out to the table to chat a bit =) the food is authentic Jamaican, never had roti before and then to have it as my burrito… yummy. If I lived in Savannah I would eat here at least one a week =D

Yes. Yes. And, guess what? Yes. I’ve been meaning to try Sweet Spice for a while now, but never had the time to venture off my beaten path to find it. I usually eat at places in the downtown area, because it’s closer, but I will make the drive to Sweet Spice. It’s not your hipster, «instagram the décor kind of place.» You’re not going to be read a list of ingredients, or even told perfect pairings, but, the food is amazing. Take a look at the menu, and ask questions. While the server wasn’t particularly forthcoming with information at first, when I asked a few questions, she helped me make some good food decisions. I ordered the jerk chicken with mac n cheese and plantains. I know that’s not the most well balanced meal, but it was amazing. The mac had lots of flavor, and it was oozing in cheese. The plantains were cooked to perfection, and were not soggy at all. My favorite, was the chicken. For a small serving, I got 5 pieces of chicken, including two wings. The lovely server even asked if I wanted more sauce; clearly, she knows I drown food. It was served hot, heaping, and full of flavor. I’m a fan, and I want everyone to know it.

Great Caribbean food and the waitress(owners daughter) was really sweet and excited to tell us about their food. Curry Roti was a little dry but overall really liked it.

Came here when there were only about 20 Unilocal reviews when they first opened. The best fried chicken and mac and cheese in the area and guess where they’re from??? BROOKLYN! The owner was telling me he was from my neighborhood in Bed-Stuy, where you can get amazing Caribbean food in the area and ride over to Crowne Heights and Flatbush for some more. Anyway, he was so nice and it was great to find a piece of home in the area. The prices are not bad and the portions are very generous. It is a small, no frills place, but it is worth going for the food and service. A local favorite!

This food is amazing! We wanted to please the spicy eaters in our family, and saw this restaurant on trip advisor. Pulling up we had second thoughts. It is very small and tucked away on the side of an older looking strip mall. Inside there are a few tables, but we quickly realized they have a huge take out business. There was a constant stream of people living up orders. We ordered and loved the jerk chicken and curry chicken. So much so that we bought some jerk sauce to take home. We also loved the key lime cake. Yes cake not pie. It is served warm, and we had a family fork fight as we shared a slice of this deliciousness. Absolutely have to figure out how to make this at home. We are still talking about the food, and we plan to visit again before we head home from our vacation.

Have never gotten anything I didn’t like here. The meals are huge and very filling. The curries and ribs are wonderful, as are the jerk and fish dishes. Very good Carribean fruit drinks. Get the Sweet Spice sampler to try three of their meats. The place is very small and crowded for lunch. Parking is often difficult to find.

If there was a 3.5 star that is what I would rate Sweet Spice. I rate them a 4 instead of 3 because of the two ladies working there, they were very pleasant. I wasn’t thrilled with the flavor of the jerk chicken. Had an off taste not like what you get in Jamaica. The curry chicken was AMAZING but such a teeny tiny portion. The rice with peas were not very flavorful and dry, I asked for some curry sauce to pour on top and then it was yummy. My fried plantains didn’t taste fresh. I honestly was a little disappointed after the meal. We decided to order a slice of coconut and chocolate cake. Both served warm/— so so good! That coconut cake really brought the meal back to life for me. My kids ordered chicken fingers and fries of course and honestly the chx fingers were so damn good I wish I would have ordered them as my meal! Best chicken fingers ever haha

The shrimp stew and the jerk chicken was amazing. The roti was very dry but the other sides we had were delicious.(Macaroni and cheese, dumplings, and plantains) The staff was very friendly and the place has a small, homey vibe to it.

Best Jamaican food I’ve ever had!!! I’m not Jamaican, but I’ve grown up in South Florida where there are a ton of Jamaican restaurants and have many Jamaican friends, so I feel like it’s a big deal for me to say this is the best I’ve had. I couldn’t believe that there was such a great Jamaican spot in Savannah, Georgia. If you’re visiting Savannah, like we were, this is about 10 – 15 mins away from the historic district area but most definitely worth your drive. It is located in a small strip of different businesses and it is a small locale with maybe space for up to 20 people(maybe less) to sit inside. We initially went up to the counter because no one really greeted us when we came in, so I thought maybe you had to order at the counter. But the girl then asked if we were taking to go or eating in and we said eating in, so she got us some menus and we sat down. My husband then ordered their mixed fruit smoothie drink and a beef patty for us to share. I was hesitant to try the fruit smoothie, because I’m so picky, but it was really good!!! The beef patty was also delicious with the right amount of spice. We then decided to get the sampler to share(three meats and two sides) of which we chose the oxtail, jerk chicken and curry goat with white rice(because they had run out of rice and peas) and plantains. Once that came and I tried the goat I soon realized that I’m not a fan of it. It wasn’t the curry, it was the goat flavor that I didn’t really like, but I would’ve never known had I not given it a try(yes, stepped outside my bubble). The oxtail tasted soooo good though(my fav). It had the right flavors. My husband says he doesn’t normally like oxtail(because it’s too fatty), but he enjoyed this one. And the jerk chicken was good and spicy. Yum!!! Then we were still a little hungry(since we had shared everything), so we ordered another beef patty and fried dumplings or as they call them there, Johnny Cakes. They were perfectly fried with the right amount of sweetness. Had never had those before and I really enjoyed them. Even told one of my Jamaican friends about it and she told me that’s something they usually have for breakfast, so maybe that’s why I hadn’t tried it before. But it was a good dessert/end to our meal there. Definitely recommend this place!!! And if it’s too packed to eat there, take your food to go! The food is delicious!

WOW! Packed! A long line in a tiny restaurant. I can’t believe people keep coming in. I went there right before their closing time. Their famous jerk chicken was sold out of course. I tried chicken curry and something like Chinese kampao chicken and coleslaw and bean rice. They were pretty good. This sampler was $ 12 maybe… No romantic atmosphere but they have good food and tons of enthusiasts. See you Jerk chicken next time!

Little local place not in the most famous area of savannah but definitely worth going to. The food was awesome and the cook came in person to take our orders to make sure everything was as we wished. Perfect!
