Many moons ago, Rancho Alegre was in a small little house on Posey Street. Next to Just For Feet. That should tell you how long ago it’s been since Just For Feet is no longer there. We ate here just about every week for many years. The little house couldn’t even seat more than 40. You could hear the chef pounding out my palomilla steak. I remember laughing at my grandpa because he could drink 3 cups of cuban coffee. So strong and potent, but would never flinch. Had a lot of good laughs here with my grandparents. Real cuban bread, the palomilla was always great along with the Picadillo, Chuletas, and Ropa Vieja. I am happy to see that they moved to a bigger location, must mean business is good! In the next few months, when I come for a visit I will be checking out the new location!

Good food, but slow service with a half full restaurant. Empenadas & calamari fries to start bocata serano with a side of the yucca fries. Wouldn’t allow substitution even though the yuccas were the same price as the others. Prices were reasonable, and would’ve stayed for dessert, but time didn’t allow.

I’ve eaten in Havana on multiple occasions and to be honest, the Rancho Alegre didn’t even resemble the culinary experiences I had in Cuba. First off, I got food poisoning each time I ate in Cuba whereas I had no intestinal concerns after dining at Rancho Alegre. Furthermore the cleanliness at the restaurant was exceptional further deviating from my authentic Cuban experiences.

Who would have thunk that you could get a great Cuban meal in Savannah, Georgia? Guess what? You can! Great place — I got the Cuban sandwich(awesome) and sampled the tilapia frita(also awesome)…cold beer on tap. Great service … Check it out!

The food was incredible — so authentic, I envisioned someone’s Abuela in the back, hand pressing our empanadas! The mojo was the best we’ve ever had(we got the pork) and my chicken was so well seasoned and moist. We ate every single plate clean! Our server was delightful — fun, knowledgeable & very attentive. The owner stopped by our table offering a hello & looking for feedback, lovely man! They also had music which elevated the already lively room. Great place for dinner or lunch!

My first experience at this restaurant will be my last. The service and food were awful. First of all they tried to seat us at a overly sunny table. I have sensitive eyes and get migraines and I just didn’t want to sit there. The hostess kept insisting that we sit there. Then she said sit where you want. We sat and then after getting our drinks she said that we have to move seats because a large group is coming in. We moved then ordered appetizers. The main thing I wanted to try was the empanadas. The appetizer never came but our main dish did. The chicken was horribly dry and inedible. I can get better chicken nuggets at a McDonald’s. The meal actually made me cry. Then the waitress is like«I can give you a free dessert». My first thought is no why would I want to try it! Avoid going to this restaurant. It is sure to disappoint. I expected better.

When you take your best girl out for what you think will be a nice dinner and then you don’t get your appetizer and one of the dishes tastes like day old fried chicken, well, call me disappointed. People work hard for their money, if you want them to spend it in your restaurant you need to be more consistent. When you can’t be sure what you’re going to get, I’m not inclined to go back.

one star for the Cuba Libre — nailed it. one star for the live music — nice touch. one star for the service — second to none. sorry you get no stars for the vegetarian sampler… you seriously should rename it «plantains 4 different ways and an empanada!». I left feeling, well, plantained to death. the tequenos were just ok, overall everything needed more spice.

Visited for the first time on a Saturday for lunch. Promptly and pleasantly greeted and seated. Server made some recommendations from the lunch menu, which we took: baby churrazco(skirt steak) for me and lechon asado(roasted pork) for my wife. Both plates served with rice(white or yellow), beans(black or red) and sweet plantains. Food served quickly & nicely presented. Skirt steak was very good, but the roasted pork was incredible. I’ve had plantains before & not a big fan, but these were very good, slightly sweet, and would order them again. We’ll be back to try other menu items soon.

Excellent Cuban food. Sat at the bar, great menu and a nice wine selection of 30+ types all at 8 bucks per glass. Nice baked Yucca, Good Moro rice and the baked snapper was tremendous. Highly recommended!

When I asked the waiter to recommend a beef entrée, he suggested the churrasco. It came with black beans, rice, and chimichurri sauce. The meat portion felt slim and the taste/tenderness was nothing special. The chimichurri sauce was unappealing. Full disclosure: I don’t know what good chimichurri is supposed to taste like, but this was bland and unremarkable. The biggest disappointment was the black beans. I thought that black beans were the stereotypical Cuban side dish, so I was expecting some pizzazz. These were boring. they tasted like the kind you get in a can at the grocery store. I ordered during the lull before dinner — around 4pm, so maybe that’s why the food quality was sub-par. But I’m not in a rush to go back to this restaurant again.

Had another great meal at Rancho Alegre. These guys are not bookmarked in Unilocal for me and a «must do» when I’m in Savannah on a FR or SAT night. Reservations are highly recommended during peak eat times! We started out with our standard pitcher of ice cold Mojitos with fresh mint. These are so refreshing in the summer! We quickly tapped the Tamal en Hoja which were really great and gluten free. For the mains, we fell back to our standbys of Lechon Asado which is consistently good. I tried the grouper or Filete de Cherna grilled. It was good but my heart remains with the Lechon. Service has been outstanding every time I’ve dined and I must compliment the staff for their attentiveness, seating us promptly, and thanking us for dining with them when we departed. Did I mention, they have a live band on weekends? Parking was easy and the location is right on the corner — as they said on the web site, go where the locals go — live a little.

I was looking for a place to grab dinner and the little place caught my eye. I ordered the black bean soup and the mixed sampler entrée that consisted of ropa vieja, grilled Cuban chicken and roasted pork served with rice beans and tostones. I have definitely had much better Black bean soup and other places this one was OK. The entrée was a huge portion of food and smelled delicious. Both the chicken and the pork had incredible flavor that just burst in your mouth and danced on your palate. The mojito was a nice stiff drink that was perfectly made.

I used to love this place! So, I was so excited to visit Savannah and find out that they were still open after all these years. I sadly, was underwhelmed. The chicken chunk dish just had zero flavor. I was super sad!

«This restaurant is delicious!» Those were my 9 year old daughter’s exact words as she devoured her Camarones al Ajillo(broiled shrimp in a garlic wine sauce). We recently moved up to NC from Miami where Cuban food is nonexistent. During our seasonal road trips to visit family, we always make a stop in Savanna. Typically, we eat on the river walk along with the rest of the tourist crowds. This time, I did some digging and found this gem of a restaurant. Off the beaten path. Well like a 20 minute walk from the touristy spots(we took a cab), is Rancho Alegro. I ordered Vaca Frita(grilled shredded beef) and it was very good. The best Vaca Frita I ever had is at a restaurant in Miami. But, I was extremely pleased. My husband ordered the Churrasco(grilled skirt steak) which he also enjoyed tremendously. They serve Cuban tostada instead of rolls while you wait for your meal. Cuban tostada is Cuban bread with a garlic and herb butter spread then toasted on a toaster press. Very yummy! The portions are big and kids can share a plate or even some adults. It was a Friday night and a delightful jazz band played which set a pretty cool vibe. It’s not a fancy place but it’s charming. We will definitely come back!

One of my favorite spots in Savannah(excluding Southern food spots). This is authentic Cuban food prepared exceptionally well. I’ve eaten both at the restaurant and gotten delivery and everything I’ve had is great. Plata mixa is a good first thing to get, but you really cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Solid beers on tap, and prompt service.
