This place might be closed, but then again it might actually be open for business! I was forced to give Sugar Daddy’s a star rating, so please ignore the fact I gave it only two stars. This establishment NEEDS A SIGN outside to alert potential customers like me and my wife where they are located. I’m a pilot and have flown my airplane to isolated locations around the country(using my GPS) but two of us in a car were not able to find Sugar Daddy’s in downtown Savannah using either one of our iPhones, which have never failed us in the past on our travels.(Maybe this is a Unilocal problem, but needless to say, it was impossible to locate this restaurant with the mapping feature of Unilocal-Google Maps on our iPhones. We spent nearly 30 minutes trying to find it using Unilocal and Google Maps but never saw anything resembling a restaurant at the location on our iPhones and the Sugar Daddy’s website wouldn’t load on 11-2-2011. Good luck finding this place(if they still are at 109 Jefferson Street. At this address, all we saw was a tattoo parlor.)

You have to know what youre getting into first. The menu has changed(though the etchings on the windows havent) They no longer offer entrees! This is only a cocktail/cheese plate place now… but OH what a place! The staff is friendly and calm. The squishy living room type entrance make this atmosphere instantly sexy. A chess set tops a table in the corner saying ‘come on, man… stay awhile’. The strawberry sangria is pure heaven. But i wouodnt go hungry, ’cause the tiny food has a not so tiny pricetag…

Awesome service, yummy food, unpretentious atmosphere. I wish we’d come here for our entire meal. We stopped by at the end of the night for wine, cheese plate, and dessert. The bartender was awesome. He had a great wine recommendation. The cheese plate, while not super creative, was delicious! I loved the honey that went with the cheese(I meant to ask if it was from the Savannah Bee Company). And the homemade bread was exceptional. My tiramisu was creamy and tasty. Another great suggestion from the bartender. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. It doesn’t feel stuffy in the slightest. It was interesting that they had tv’s in the bar. Sometimes I think that just kills the intimacy. But that might just be personal. There were definitely more items on the menu I’d want to come back and try. The menu was small, but if the two items we ordered were an indication, everything on the menu is probably just as good. I’d recommend and definitely go again.

Sugar Daddy’s has the potential to be great, but they weren’t quite there when we visited one Saturday night. We experienced several small operational issues that management can easily fix, if they choose to do so: Issue 1: Spotty coverage of the host/hostess stand — when we arrived a few minutes past our 8pm reservation, the restaurant was ~80% full and four other people were hovering by the empty hostess stand. We gave it 5 minutes before I went looking for assistance. At least one of the other couples simply left and cut their losses Issue 2: Disorganized reservations system — when we gave our name, our waitress looked blankly at the reservations list and informed us that we weren’t on there. Luckily, there was a table available and we were seated, but considering that we called earlier in the week to ensure our reservation at the restaurant, this was semi-annoying Issue 3: Kitchen preparedness — by the time we ordered(~8:30p), one of the three restaurant week entrees, the black & blue filet mignon, a black pepper dusted filet mignon with blue cheese and truffle whipped sweet potatoes, was already finished. There was no substitute item, and El Queso Grande had his heart set on the filet mignon. It may have been a busier than anticipated night, but 8:30p on a Saturday seems awfully early to be running out of anything during dinner service, particularly since most meat suppliers don’t make deliveries on Sunday, so ostensibly, the filet mignon would not have been available on Sunday night unless sourced from a grocery store/retail meat market Issue 4: Kitchen/menu consistency — we ordered the cheese plate starter as much for the cheese as to try the Savannah Bee Company honeycomb listed on the menu, and boy were we dismayed when the plate arrived without the honeycomb. Our waitress, similarly dismayed, exclaimed, «Oh, they left it off again!» I understand that these things happen, but it sounded rather chronic, and combined with the other issues contributed to a disappointing experience All issues aside, the restaurant still displayed a number of strengths which included: — A great restaurant week special, $ 30 for 2 drinks(including wine, martinis and cocktails), 1 entrée and 1 dessert — Helpful and attentive waitress(once we were seated) — Tasty petite beef wellington — Delicious, freshly baked house bread — Good wine list(by El Queso Grande’s discriminating standards) — Great live music that enhanced the atmosphere without being distracting — Fabulous desserts including a trio of house made truffles(lemon coconut white chocolate, raspberry chocolate and grand marnier dark chocolate) with whipped cream and a chocolate crème brulee that tasted like the best chocolate pudding I ever had with a very respectable crackly carmelized sugar crust PARTINGTHOUGHT: Later in the evening we saw a couple guys come in bearing beer in plastic cups, scope out the scene for a few minutes and duck out. When we laughingly shared our BYOB observation with the waitress, she chuckled and explained that it is acceptable in Savannah to walk from bar to bar with your drink, so long as the drink is in a plastic cup. Of course, once your drink is finished, it’s assumed that you’ll order a freshie

I’ve probably visited Savannah more than any other city that I’ve never lived in. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been there. But I’ve never really enjoyed a meal in this town. Never a full meal anyway. There might be elements of a meal that I like. But look… Savannah is a city with a tourist-based economy. On the whole, it’s catering to a certain caliber of individual who, frankly, usually eats fast food when they go out and microwave meals at home. So I had pretty much given up trying to find a dining experience in Savannah that could even compete in the same universe as what I’m used to in NY. …and then I stumbled into Sugar Daddy’s late one evening(an acquaintance of mine was playing a gig there that evening), and it thoroughly shook my preconceived notions of what Savannah was capable of offering. Sugar Daddy’s is the best meal I’ve had in Savannah. Hands down. Most places have«cheese plates» that are nothing more than the typical fare you can pick up at the local supermarket. Sugar Daddy’s cheese plate was a nice selection of artisanal cheeses, including a really excellent blue, the name of which escapes me. Their Mini Beef Wellington was superb. Melt in your mouth delicious. I wanted to order 2 or 3 more. Absolutely amazing. But come on, guys… I know you’re in Savannah, but you’re doing yourself a disservice… call it a «Petite» Beef Wellington, for crying out loud… calling it «Mini» sound so very dollar store and low-brow. My Manhattans were surprisingly well-made…for Savannah. I haven’t had a better Manhattan anywhere else in Savannah… but I can think of several Manhattans in NY that I would consider subpar that were still better than this Manhattan. But that was my only complaint. Solid wine selection as well, though I didn’t try any that evening. The staff were all very friendly. And I like the fact that it’s a little bit off the beaten path… it’s not as likely to fill up with sports bar douchetards drinking Bud Light. My only complaint, which is hardly the establishment’s fault, was the obnoxious girl sitting next to me who spent all evening bragging about how much money her parents had. At one point she loudly proclaimed that she only drinks top shelf liquor… and then immediately turned around and ordered a round of Raspberrytinis for her and her friend. Um… no. You don’t get to do that, little ms. entitled. Either you have good taste in alcohol or you don’t…and if you’re ordering Raspberrytinis, you don’t. Period.

Excellent, simple menu with light apps and 3 specials. Well thought out wine list with Taste/Glass/Bottle option and very thoughtful wait staff letting you try as you go even before you order a «taste». Delicious local shrimp & sea bass with tasty mushrooms & corn relish. Spend a lot of time in Savannah on business and these guys/gals deserve some attention. Bonus for the 2 guys breaking down on bass & guitar. Perfect volume to accompany a nice meal. Will go again when I’m back in town.

Enjoyed an awesome girls’ night out here while visiting friends in Savannah. Apparently this place is new — watch out, because it’s about to catch on! The space is nicely decorated and cozy, without feeling crowded. The wine list is very nice, with lots of different regions and varietals to choose from, with many unusual choices that you don’t see everyday. They offer flights, or you can make your own. The menu is mainly small plates which are great for sharing. We ordered a couple of the cheese plates, the«Dips of the Day»(a delicious hummus and a tomato and avocado brushetta). We each had different entrees, mostly choosing from the specials of the day. All of the food was terrific — fresh and flavorful. The desserts were simply delicious. We loved the rich and creamy chocolate mousse cake but it was the housemade cheesecake that had us stabbing each other with our forks to get the last bite. They told us the chef was from New York and has been making cheesecake since he was five years old. I swear, this was the best cheesecake I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Hats off to the chef! Also, the staff was super nice and friendly(love those southern manners) and the service was terrific. Prices were extremely reasonable, too. Run, don’t walk, to Sugar Daddy’s.

I walked past this little spot one afternoon just after it opened and knew I needed to try it out. I immediately made plans with my sisters for drinks after work and chose this as our meeting place. I love the layout. When you walk in there are bar tops and then the bar to the left separated from the booths on the right. The wine list had a good variety and we were told even more were available and just not listed yet. Didn’t really browse the cocktail or beer list. Need to try more food next time — the cheese plate was hardly enough for two. Nice crowd but I especially enjoyed the live jazz music. I’m definitely going back and I’m happy there is a new place downtown to chill and enjoy wine.
