This place is so cool! Not only is the blown glass amazing, but the glassblower lets you watch as he works. He will also give a commentary on what he is working on and answers any questions you may have. The store also sells paintings along with the glasswork. Just keep an eye on your children, or you may find yourself reaching for your wallet!

It is awesome to go in the afternoon and watch Bob at work. He talks through his projects and you are able to answer questions, I thought the memorial orbs were quite unique — a great way to remember a loved one.

We were having lunch in Newport and saw this glass gallery(on 861BNW Beach Dr.). Going in to browse, we found the perfect hand blown glass pendant lampshade for our kitchen, in just the right colors. There was just one small problem; there was only one of them and we needed two. The person who was staffing the gallery said that this was only a showroom for the artist, Bob Meyer; he is located just 9 miles away and would be happy to make another lampshade for us to match this one. Wow! Naturally we said yes, and purchased the first lampshade with the condition that another one could be created to match, and then we drove down to the artist’s studio in Seal Rock. He looked at the one we got in Newport and said that he can make one close to the colors, but not exact, as each one is a unique work of art, and that even he never knows exactly how one will turn out once it cools. He then started making one right in front us. We were seated in a raised guest gallery overlooking the hot shop where we could talk to the artist. He explained to us every step that he took during the process to make our lampshade. It was a fascinating process. Hot clear molten glass was given colors and form by the skill of the artist through a series of blowing, melting, swinging, rolling, etc. When he was finished, he said that it has to gently cool down in an oven for a day or two. Only after it cools will you know the exact colors. He said that he will ship the two lampshades to us and that if after it cooled, the second one didn’t match close enough to the first, he would make another. Wow! Great Service! After arriving home from our trip, the package arrived and it contained two great, custom made lampshades. The price for a glass pendant lampshade is $ 120 each with $ 20 to ship the two of them. I highly recommend Bob Meyer to create custom glass creations to your specifications! We will think of the experience of watching him make it every time we will look at our lamps.

This is one of our favorite places to visit on the coast. Bob and Vickie, the owners, make beautiful fused and blown glass items. They also offer items from other glass artists in the area. The gallery is friendly and welcoming, and a great place to spend some time on the coast. Bob does great custom work for your home or for gifts. We have blown glass several times with Bob, who’s a very patient, kind and entertaining teacher. Don’t miss this great spot when you’re in the area!

Bob is the best. This is his glass shop. I’m so delighted that glass-blowing has melted seemlessly into the Oregon Coast experience. There’s barely a community over there where you can’t find a place to go and watch people create beautiful works of art from glass and fire. You can pick up a float and remember the lovely trip over every time you see it hanging from your bedroom ceiling. Ocean Beaches is much like the others with a wide selection of floats and other objets to pick up and marvel over. But if you’re a lucky one, you can schedule an hour or two with Bob and he’ll guide you as you make your own glass creations. He’s a kind and patient teacher. I’ve blown with him on two occasions now, and it’s been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. I think he’s winding down this part of his business, so check it out soon if you’re interested.

We decided to spend 3 days of spring break in Newport this year. Not suprisingly the second day we were there it was raining so we took a drive down 101 towards Waldport, and I am happy we did. Nestled on the side of the road is Ocean Beaches Glass studio. We walked in thru the rain to beautiful blown glass pieces that brightened up a gloomy day. My daughter headed straight to watch the artist/owner Bob do his work. The best part was he talked his way thru his pieces and welcomed questions from those who were there, he even tolerated the questions of an 8 year old girl. We sat there for an hour and watched him make a lampshade from start to finish, the whole process is amazing. We stayed there past close talking to him and admiring the pieces that were on display… we liked it so much we went back the next day and purchased a vase. If you are ever driving down 101 on the Oregon Coast, do not pass by this little shop. It is well worth the stop.
