Cheap delicious buns! Less airy, less sweet, more doughy than what I’ve had, but that’s what makes it good! Im not sure if they do this a lot, but if you go around closing time and they haven’t sold out yet, they will sell the buns at half price!

The Strawberry cakes they serve dont disappoint. They have a delicious display case full of tasty dessert treats. The lady behind the counter is more than friendly.

I thought the trick to bakeries was to go early in the morning? So I go up in here like just after 9am or so (that’s not very early) and there was only a few older gentlemen in there reading the newspaper, drinking coffee, standing outside smoking a cigarette, coughing and hacking without covering their mouths etc.
They only had like 4 types of baos available. (bbq pork, hot dog bao, sweet bao and mexican bao) I asked the lady when more would be coming out or if they had any of the ones I was looking for. She just said «later». haha! So I got a few bbq baos and a «sweet» one, not sure what «sweet» meant but when I ate it, there was nothing inside of it and was sweet on the top crust only. They had like 1 hot dog bao availabe and 2 «mexican» baos (whatever that is) on the trays. The dessert counter was pretty full but the bao section was pretty empty.
Both were just ok in my opinion, nothing spectacular. But I’ve been here plenty of times before and they had a bigger selection than just a few and were quite tasty. Not sure what happened this time around.
I just thought by 9am they would have a good amount of baos out, maybe a good time is to come at 2pm and what «later» meant according to the lady. Who knows.
Well, maybe walking in and taking a quick peek will help to see what’s availble will help you make your decision.

The chicken buns are hands down the best in town! The more buns you buy, the more you save!

I’ve only tried some of the buns, but I thought the sponge cake was awesome. Soft, and practically melted in my mouth. The bubble tea was just so-​so though.

This is one of the more interesting places for me in the Uwajimaya food court, since most of them are Asian fast-​food restaurants. Nothing wrong with that, but this is a bit different. There is lots of sweet stuff that I need to come back and try.
I started off with the pork humbow, which they call the barbeque pork bun. Their version is baked rather than steamed, but it still rested on top of the standard little paper circle. The bread is lightly sweet, and the filling was good. A whopping good deal for $ 1.60. I also got a cocoanut bun which had a sweet glaze and a sweet cocoanut filling. Messy but very tasty.
Seeing the small warming oven where they kept most of their wares, I felt almost lucky that I got both of the items I ordered. It looked like they had only few of each of the many buns you might want to order. One other option is to get a grab-​bag of six day-​old buns for three bucks. Hard to beat that for a deal.

I’m a fan but I’m not a fan of a store that can’t restock their outages. Food wise I have no complaints but for a location that has so much traffic, please restock your food more often. It is unfortunate to travel here and realize that they are out of your favorite buns.
Service is always consistent as the lady that works there always brings a smile to my face.

Pretty typical Chinese bakery, my favorite is the sweet custard bun.

Love the variety of buns and pastries and the lady working the counter is nice, but they always seem to be sold out of at least one or two of my favorite buns when I order. I adore the lotus seed paste filled bun and of course the bbq pork bun, the coconut tarts are awesome too.

Understand that I would normally rate this as a very good 3 – 4 stars based on years of happy experiences.
My review is based on the insanely offensive service received on 5÷10÷12 at noon at the Uwajimaya location. I have been a happy customer for years. I have lived most of my life in urban centers and understand the sometimes necessary curt and hurried service affordable food counters like these sometimes offer (I have no problem adapting to the pace and requirements of the staff of any busy and popular retail counter).
I had brought my disabled Japanese mother to Uwajimaya as part of my personal mothers day package, sometimes it is ones own time that is appreciated and needed most.
We wanted to hit the bakery counter before they sold out of some of their more favorite offerings. During our encounter there were no customers in front of us or behind us, the phone was not ringing, there were no distractions for the person at the counter.
I had to go over each of the individual items in the case because my mother is blind. She is clearly blind to anyone that can see her due to the service dog and cane. So I had to state each item and if she wanted it I would have to ask that we could have one of those. The person at the counter became increasingly agitated and impatient. She started raising her voice and actually was screaming and scolding me for asking her to go over the 4 selections. Once, I had asked my mother if she wanted a custard and she declined but the counter person put it in the order anyway, I said it was a mistake and she screamed that we said we wanted it and why did we say that if we didn’t.
Anyway, this is truly miserable recalling this horrible experience. It cast a serious negative pall on the rest of the day and instead of having lunch in the Uwajimaya food court we just got some cold food to go.
I had rearranged my schedule to make this day happen in part because I sensed my mother really needed this excursion.
On the other hand I want to point out this has been a long time favorite, the staff has always been friendly and enjoyable to interact with. I am sorry to say that I truly hate this place because of this one person.
I do have to add that the sweet bbq pork bun on this visit was the best I have ever had. My mother and I both agreed that there was at least twice the filling as what we learned to accept over the years, which for me was just part of the very affordable prices.

Located inside the Uwajimaya food court, Yummy House is a Hong Kong style bakery with cake slices, full size cakes (custom available), cake rolls, sweet and savory baked buns and other pastries. They bake on site. You’ll find the usual buns with or without pineapple tops: bacon, cream, BBQ pork, coconut, hot dog, etc. While the baked bun display case looked rather empty, they had more buns in the back.
* Swiss cake roll slice: light and spongy cake, the creamy filling was oddly salty
* Red bean bun ($ 1.30): The baked bun exterior looked pale and had been slashed a few times so you could see the red bean paste inside. There was plenty of smooth red bean paste. It was sweeter than usual. The bun part was soft and doughy, topped with a sprinkling of sesame seeds. Overall: Too doughy and sweet but still warm and comforting.

Tried their chinese style fruit birthday cakes a few times. The mango covered one I had this last time had fruit that was not ripe so it was not sweet and very tough. Yuck. If you can’t get good fruit, you should make those cakes seasonal.

This is a family owned bakery with 2 locations, the other is inside Uwajimaya. The owner, her daughter & staff are always welcoming & friendly. I love the Taramisu Cheesecake here and have been getting it for years for birthdays & holidays. Like my quick tip says «its to die for». The only reason why I am giving this place a 4 star is because the last few time I bought the same cake I always have, it didn’t taste quite the same. The texture was off & the cheesecake part of it tasted more like whip cream than cheesecake. I’m still hopeful and they have a wide selection of pastries that I still need to try.

This place makes some great and interesting hum bow and other treats. I mean they have a cream corn type of pastry, never tried it but may some day. My buddy and I started going to the Yummy House in Uwajimaya when we started working in the ID to get hum bow for breakfast. They have since re-​opened there actual store up the road which is great because the inventory always went real fast at the Waji store. $ 1.50 or less for most of the hum bow, can’t beat that deal. They are big and filling too and are packed with filling. I’ll be back!

My first time ever trying this place and it did not disappoint. The cake was super moist and the filling (strawberries with a light mousse) kept you wanting more. Will be back to order future cakes for events!
Located in the Uwajimaya Food Court

This location is located inside the Uwajimaya food court and usually picked over by the time I reach it. That said, any time I’ve grabbed items from here, they’ve been fresh and tasty. Cheap as well. I love their eggy bread shaped like a flower and any of their beautifully arranged cake slices. I especially like the Black Forest Cake + the strawberry with cream… both a huge hit with friends that I’ve shared with.
Sometimes I’ll grab some of their BBQ pork buns for lunches. I find that they keep a couple days after purchase. I get the hot dog chive bun sometimes too… it’s a guilty pleasure and quite tasty. They also do advance orders on custom cakes with gorgeous decoration, and for a good price too. A friend of mine bought a massive fruit tart for a recent book club event and it went the fastest of any of the foodstuffs there.
If you purchase enough, you can get two hours validation for your parking in Uwajimaya’s private lot. And you can walk around the food court + check out Kinokuniya after you’ve chosen your goodies.

Fruit tarts were yummy but the cake was so-​so.
It’s in a good location with all other asian foods near by.
I would try green tea cake and maybe I will change my rating to 4-​star :)

I only bought two items from this place and can only comment on these two items. I bought a curry bun and a bbq pork bun. Neither of them were impressive.
The bbq pork bun was okay, it had more bread than meat in it which is a big taboo when it comes Chinese bakery goods. I can tell this is a way for the owners to cut cost. I’ve also had way better tasting ones from Vancouver BC. I paid $ 1.50 and give it ³⁄₅ stars.
The curry bun was worse. Not only it didn’t have much curry filling in it, it wasn’t really curry. It was more like… ground beef with some weird flavor to it. The bun itself was overly fried and it kinda made me sick from eating it because it was somewhat oily. I didn’t like it at all. I paid $ 1.75 for it and give it ⁰⁄₅ stars.
Based on what I had and my experiences with other Chinese bakeries, Yummy House Bakery is NOT a very good bakery at all contrary to reviews on Unilocal.I’m pretty sure there are better ones out there in Seattle, I just need to find it.

It’s interesting how this place is just a block away from its main bakery on 6^th street. The fruit cake is a must.
