Pleasant City Wood Fired Grille

Hey, Chris is cool, the food is hot, the beers are cold thanks to the cold mugs, the staff is on point, prices are honest, well run, the missing star is because I don’t make it there as much as I ‘d like to.

PC had great specials all throughout the week. Tuesday night half off pizza and 2.50 drafts cannot be beat. Can’t get enough of this plave, however, it has become so popular that it is difficult to get a table without a wait and drinks may take a while because it is always full. They definitely need to expand.

This place is great! My friend and I are northerners who go to school down south. We went to pleasant city for pizza one night and we absolutely love it. On Tuesdays you can get a pizza for half off and a $ 2 draft beer. I love getting a house salad and the chicken bacon ranch pizza is amazing. I would ask for it cooked extra long. Great service every time! Would definitely recommend this place to locals or just people passing through.

Great food and atmosphere, good for everything from breakfast to dinner. Very nice downtown area, southern charm. We’ll definitely be back. The service was excellent.

The pleasant city salad was absolutely delicious. Probably the best salad I’ve ever had. Fish tacos on the other hand were a bust for me. I wanted to love them but they were bland. Will definitely try the delicious looking pizza next time!

So this was a tough one. We were traveling home from CLT airport and it was dinner time so we checked Unilocal and stopped in for dinner.
The good:
It was very clean, nice look inside and had a great local crowd. The hostess and server were both very nice and helpful. It happened to be half off pizza and beer Tuesday so that was a huge plus. The crowd was rather small but it did fill up quickly. The pizzas are personal size (10″) with great choice and good amount of toppings. They had a great beer list with a large selection.
All this sounds like a solid 4 star but then…
The bad:
All the pizzas were under cooked. One of my kids dough was still a bit raw. The cheese on the pizza was perfectly described by my youngest in five words, «This cheese taste like gum». I could not have said it better. We were seated near the kitchen door and I witnessed a very dirty BOH. Servers scooping glass after glass of ice from the ice well with a pint glass! My wife and I took all our kids drinks away from them hoping there were no chips of glass mixed in with their ice. Although the service was pleasant it was a bit slow, especially for how the restaurant was not busy yet. It looked great form the outside but lift the curtain and not so good.
Maybe we caught it on an off night since it seemed to be popular… or maybe it’s just a hot spot in a small country town.

I am in from out of town and stopped in for some dinner. I wasn’t expecting much from this small town but they had a good atmosphere and the staff were nice and friendly. We didn’t have to wait for a table which was nice.
The menu was a little overwhelming. There seemed to be a lot of different types of food and I didn’t feel like the menu did a good enough job guiding you to find something to eat. I’m very visual and they didn’t have any pictures of the food anywhere on the menu or in the restaurant. So I had to be the creep that scoped out other people’s food at other tables when it came out.
The waitress was very nice and helpful. They had a wide selection of draft beers however I like unique flavored beers and they only had one on the menu. It was good but I would have liked to have a couple to choose from. It was a Founders Raspberry beer. Very nice and smooth, also very sweet.
I ordered a Cesar Salad. It was good, decent salad. It had the right amount of dressing with it. It didn’t blow me away by any means and maybe I shouldn’t judge their food on a salad since they’re known for their pizzas. But I also had a bite of a friends pizza and while it was good, again, I wasn’t blown away.
I was interested in a special listed on the board out front. Some sort of burger but I didn’t see any burgers on the menu. It was a very confusing ordering experience.
Over all it was an average sports bar but we enjoyed our food and the company.

Here on business on a Tuesday and I had half Open Philly Pizza and Half Greek pizza. Pizza and service were on point.

Customer service rescued an otherwise average sports-​bar.
Shelby has been making a comeback lately, most likely due to the advent of beer and the small restaurants in downtown. I suppose that with this growth comes restaurants like Pleasant City. Being from Atlanta, we are spoiled with brew-​pubs, and even sports-​bars with over a hundred beers on tap (see also TacoMac). That being said, Pleasant City is a good start for the Shelby area, and into the near future.
The food was just good. Not great, not exceptional, but good. We had sandwiches, which were good portions for lunch, and decent to say the least. What really was exceptional was our customer service. Our server was on top of our table with aplomb, topping drinks, and keeping tabs on our group the entire visit. She flat-​out kicked ass.
We may or may not be back, but certainly not due to lacking customer service. Being out-​of-​towners makes it logistically tough, but I can see us returning for the service, and maybe a bit to eat.

Very nice place and good crowd. Nice bar with good craft beer selection. Liquor selection lacking (only basic bourbons for one). Wings are very good all 3 sauces. Friends said pizza was good. Steak was average that I had. Definitely a place that is relaxed and doesn’t disappoint. Very nice staff.

Update: Sept.2015 Farm to Table Saturday’s went away some time ago :(
We eat here once or twice a week now.
Jan.2013 This is a good restaurant. We eat here 2 – 4 times a week. Food is good. Music is current. You can see into the kitchen, which is a plus. Wait staff is hit or miss. There are a couple great ones. The vegetables are fresh. Locally owned and supports our local farmers. I have seen him purchase vegis and meat from folks that I know – so not just lip service. Farm to Table Saturdays are a hit.
Crazy crowded on half price pizza night – it is a good deal.
Soup of the day is tasty.
Tea: very sweet
Atmosphere: pleasant, sometimes loud
Wait staff remember you.
Every now and then my mozzarella cheese is not the same delicious chewy stringy cheese that I love, and I think why? What happened? Did u run out and have to use wal-​mart skim milk cheese or something? When this happens, I begrudge my pizza cost and feel very disappointed.

The wood fired pizza is excellent! Everyone around us had good looking food as well including amazing looking salads and sandwiches. Our server was very attentive and very sweet. I loved the casual atmosphere. Food and beer prices were also very reasonable. We will definitely be back again really really soon!

I ate lunch here today and was Pleasantly surprised !! I didn’t think you could get this quality of food in Shelby. I had a chicken salad on focaccia bread (nice and garlicky), chicken florentine soup and a craft oatmeal porter. Will eat here again.

Food was just average, not bad but not great. Good price for the food. Good on tap beer selection, but way over priced at $ 4.50 a pint for this location. Bar tender was great and steered us in the right direction for food. If you’re looking for decent bar food, average atmosphere, then this could be an option. Not much in Shelby NC

We had a wonderful meal here. We didn’t know the area, used Unilocal to find a place, and we were pleased. I had a Greek Pizza that was absolutely wonderful. My friend had: a Panini, BarBQ Nachos, and a burger. They all enjoyed their food. The waitress was very nice, smart, and funny.
I would give five stars except it took a while before anyone came to take our order and our lunch took a while to come out. From door to door, it was an hour and twenty minutes. A little long. And it wasn’t crowded. But it is a great place to go if you have the time and want a great meal!

The fries tho! Seriously the fries are seasoned and amazing. The pizza here is superb, we have sampled most of them and I have yet to have one that wasn’t great. The focaccia bread sandwiches were ok, each time I’ve tried one the bread has just been a little off tasting. The bar here is pretty good and most of the bartenders know how to throw a strong drink. I really wish that the wine selections were a bit more expansive but given the type of casual dining spot this is and the price range, I can’t really nitpick about that. This is a really great place to eat and a great price point.

Our go to local place. Great pizza with many options of toppings. Super Fish Tacos and the best beer selection in town!
Great owner and staff and on Friday nights the have live music. TVs throughout to catch up on the latest sports.
Great for family or dates!

The bar has a great selection of beers. Although it’s a bar section they still allow kids in the area. Not sure of that is a North Carolina thing but hell, if an adult wants to eat and drink at the bar it must mean they want to stay the hell away from kids.
Their pizza’s are very creative but can be pricey.
The staff looks tired and worn out from constantly being understaffed which then makes the service lack and the food comes out late.
There is no set Hostess so you can be waiting around for a while on Friday or Saturday nights.

I think J. D. has an axe to grind for some other reason than the pizza was unedable. I’ve had pizza here twice now and it is very fresh. I have gone over other reviews and not seen one other that did not like the pizza. I’ve also had the sandwiches and they are outstanding. I do agree that the service can be anywhere on the scale from 1 to 10 but I find that at a lot of places in the area, especially in the Rutherford area where I live. Trust me, when you are used to big city entertainment like I am, it is a plus to find a place with good food, a decent bar to get a drink and live music rolled into one. Wanted to keep this review posted so this is an add on for Jan. 10 2015. I ordered the Hawaiian pizza. The freshest damn ingredients on a pizza I’ve ever had. Even the cilantro tasted liked it was just picked out back. The service has ways been in question here but Marissa was by far the best server we’ve had here. She was just freindly, prompt and I hope she’s here for awhile.

We eat here every now and then when we visit our family. They offer good pizzas with plenty of choices for toppings. This past time I got the ranchero pizza. It had chicken, bacon, and ranch cholula sauce. If you love cholula or spicy food this is your pizza. They also offer cholula wings which are delicious! They have plenty of beer choices either on tap or bottle.
Overall give them a try if you crave pizza and around town.
