Deciding on where to get chinese takeout that’s decent is tough enough, with all the selections in the area, most of them are, at the very best, a complete let-down. So, decided to try a new place, a quick Unilocal search, and here I am, at Tan Wong’s ordering take-out. I didn’t notice combo specials for dinner, which is completely ok, just out of the ordinary. Lunch they have them, just not dinner, didn’t ask if they could, found everything I wanted anyway. Ok, enough rambling, the food. Got the General Tso’s chicken, some boneless spare ribs, rolls, and pork fried rice… The Chicken was probably the best I’ve had in quite a while, enough heat to make it good, but not enough to make it melt your mouth, taste was pretty spot on. The rolls were really good too, didn’t have the typical frozen taste that I’m used to(if they are frozen, not sure which brand they’re using, but they’re better’n most other places), the fried rice also had a slightly different flavor than I’m used to, and it took me a few bites, but I really did enjoy it. The only down-side to the whole thing was the boneless spare ribs… For my taste, they were a bit too fatty. They had a really good flavor, but I almost can’t get over the fatty part, almost… All in all, probably the best of the Chinese take out in the area(or sit-down, there is a dining area if that’s your thing).

My Dad loved this place and when he was sick with cancer he would have my Mom pick up half hot and sour and half egg drop(which they were happy to make for him). We would go there for special occasions and we fell in love with all the dishes. Great food and great owners!

My family and I’ve been coming here for almost 18 years. The staff is almost like family: Peggy, Richard & Henry. They are very accommodating and the food is delicious. We’ve tried other Chinese restaurants in the area but as former New Yorkers we’ve found this place to have the best food.

I have been coming here now for 8 years and I have to say it’s the best Chinese in the Farmington Valley. The food is always fresh and has s very authentic taste. They really use quality ingredients. I now get dinner here once a week. Consistently awesome!

By far my favorite Chinese food place. I’ve been coming here with my family since I was little. The staff are friendly-at this point they know us(and our order) when we walk in the door. The food is delicious and great for meat eaters and veg heads alike.

I love this place. Very friendly service, nice atmosphere,(a little chilly sometimes), food is excellent, and where do they get those oranges!!! They are amazing. The gluten free mixed veggies with chicken is amazing.

I have now found my favorite local restaurant! We stopped in for take out and found the atmosphere very warm and inviting, we probably should have sat down at a table instead of take out. My vegetable Lo Mein was perfectly cooked and seasoned and it was loaded with snow peas. The vegetable rice had broccoli, peas and carrots. Lastly my vegatable spring rolls were fresh and delicious! I’ve been staying away from Chinese food lately, the last two places that I frequented have not been as good as they once were and I was getting tired of underwhelming Lo Mein. But this was defiantly extra ordinarily good and I’m looking forward to going there again soon!

Tan Wong is the epitome of a friendly, neighborhood restaurant with dependably terrific Chinese food. Ping and her brothers greet returning customers like family – which adds a nice glow to each visit.

This is my favorite Chinese takeout place in the Simsbury \ Avon area(lived here about 4 years now). Tried a whole host of others in both Avon and Simsbury and this has become our go to. Often an order will consist of some of the following… Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon, Chicken Wings, Wonton Soup, General Tso’s chicken, chicken lo-mein, pork fried rice, sweet & sour chicken. The portions of the«main» dishes are generally enough for two meals and everything tastes so fresh. They’re always very friendly when you come in to pick up, and I keep telling my wife we should go eat there sometime, the ambiance in the restaurant is nice and everything appears very clean and tidy.

In a day and age where good Chinese food is hard to find, this place is a diamond in the rough. We ordered our Christmas dinner here and I was surprised at how delicious everything was. I got the veggie lomein and the General Tso’s tofu. The rest of my family got a bunch of other dishes, some with meat and some without. My dishes were incredible. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and perfectly seasoned. Unlike many other Chinese food places, their food wasn’t greasy! I felt good after stuffing my face, not overly full or sick. I returned to dine-in at Tan Wong about a week and a half ago. My mom ordered the veggie lomein, I ordered the tangerine tofu, and my mom’s boyfriend Roy ordered the veggie chow mein and eggplant in garlic sauce. The lomein was great as usual. The tangerine tofu was my personal favorite. The sauce wasn’t too sweet and the tofu was cooked to perfection. A little crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I honestly could have drank that tangerine sauce it was so delicious. Moving on, the chow mein was ok. I’ve never been a huge chow mein fan as it is. But Roy said it was his favorite dish and that Tan Wong makes it the best. The eggplant was my favorite eggplant dish I’ve ever had. Yes, I realize that is a lofty statement but it’s true. It was super fresh with a little bit of crunch. The garlic sauce paired well with the eggplant. This place sure knows how to make sauces! As for the service, the waitstaff is all super friendly. They try to sell you on some appetizers but it’s not annoying in the least. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. Best of all, for four meals and one appetizer(Roy got a soup) it only cost $ 36. And we had leftovers! I look forward to eating here again very soon.

Tan Wong is the best Chinese in Simsbury, and it doesn’t hurt that it is also incredibly well priced. You won’t be disappointed with dine in or take out. They recently remodeled the interior and it has a slightly classier appearance now, more reminiscent of Meadow. They give you those triangular fried noodles with fresh duck sauce. I highly recommend the Singapore Mei Fun.

We’ve tried every Chinese restaurant in the region and have come to the conclusion that Tan Wong is the best. This judgement is based on: 1. Hot n Sour Soup(we are very judgemental here) 2. Moo Shu of all kinds 3. Chicken & Broccoli 4. Pan Fried Dumplings 5. Shrimp & Ginger 6. Noodle dishes, all kinds 7. Other dishes on occasion 8. Response to special requests Always a friendly greeting by the owner, and years of take-out orders have always been accurate. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained.

Did a take-out lunch today. The cashier-counter area is very pretty with two fishtanks and tasteful artwork on the walls. The dining area is definitely a cut above the majority of Chinese restaurants. Lots of lunch specials for $ 5– $ 7– I ordered one I don’t see too often– ma po tofu, my wife ordered the moo goo gai pan. You can add an eggroll or a soup(won ton, hot & sour, or egg drop wonton) for $ 1. We each added a soup for $ 1. My wife liked her won ton soup –the broth was average but the won tons were very good(thin and not doughy). My hot and sour was very good– a nice flavorfully spicy broth with tofu cubes and some real nice nuggets of pork. The combination plates were a teense smaller than what you might normally see out there, but the quality and generous portions of the tofu in my dish and the chicken chunks in the moo goo more than made up for the somewhat smaller servings. My tofu dish was stellar– a generous serving of delicate melt in your mouth cubes served with peas and carrots in a spicy sauce. The moo goo had mushrooms, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, etc. alongside the nice serving of soft as butter chicken. The lunch specials are served with your choice of white, fried or brown rice. All in all, we enjoyed our lunch very much. The food was top notch.

Tan Wong is a little Chinese restaurant tucked into a small shopping area on West Street in Simsbury. Driving by, you would think«hmm, that place probably isn’t that good if it’s hidden away like this. It must not be as good as Green Tea.» Wrong. Tan Wong is one of the best Chinese restaurants you’ll find in the area. The food is delicious and never disappoints. I generally get the steamed vegetables with chicken and even that is delicious! The host/hostess is always smiling and a delight to deal with, and their food is prepared promptly without sacrificing service or flavor. The prices are also very very reasonable! One staple I always recommend is the steamed wontons in spicy sauce. The sauce isn’t spicy(to me), but it is bursting with deliciousness and the crunchy fried onions on top accent them perfectly, though I usually ignore them in favor of the full wonton goodness. Their BBQ spare ribs are delicious and generally have little to no fat on them, so you really get what you pay for! Their chicken is crispy and spicy(if you get a spicy dish — I always do), and where usually other restaurant’s meat will get soggy with the sauce, theirs doesn’t. They know what they’re doing, and they always do it well. I definitely recommend checking it out over Green Tea if you’re ever in the area!

Best Chinese food in the Hartford area and we have tried over twenty. Coming from Southern California we are spoiled with incredible Chinese food. It is nice to find authentic Chinese food with great service. They are always very friendly and remember the dishes we like the most. You should try if you are in the area. Snow pea leaves are a must! So healthy and delicious. They also serve brown rice which is nice.

Having recently moved to the area, we tried 5 other Chinese restaurants before finding Tan Wong. Man, am I glad we did! Service is great, with a friendly staff that remembered me after my first visit. We’ve ordered both sit down service and take out and the food is always hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Portions are a good size. Not too much, not too little. While there are other good Chinese restaurants in the area, Tan Wong is far superior in almost every aspect.
