Great beer selection. In from out of town and was disappointed to find out that they were short a cook. No food! Also I had no way of mowing till I got here. Staff was less than helpful helping me find food. Would have loved to try the food. Management did a poor job staffing

This is one of the local breweries in the area. With a scrolling monitor at both bar locations«front, and back of house» these menus keep you informed of their ever changing beer selection. I had a cream ale, and YUM! With hints of what seemed to be cherry, and vanilla this silky beer tasted more like a desert. I didn’t try any of the food, but it seemed most the dishes coming out were pizza. It was a very nice place, The outdoor seating was a change even though the only view you have is of a train station. The front bar was kinda small, and the back bar area was very large, and open. I’d say this place is more of a «hipster» hangout.

This place is perfect. Met a group of friends here for a night out on a rare off evening from work. Everybody had a ball. I tried a few different frothy beverages, all of which were quite tasty. I also tried the muffaletta pizza. It was really great. I would never have thought to put those ingredients on a pizza, but i am sure glad they did. Hope to be back in this neck of the woods again!

For a cozy atmosphere Monks gets a 5 for sure. The unique selection of beers they have is great! I tried everything that was light to medium darkness and enjoyed everyone of them. It’s a great to just sit back, relax and enjoy an ale. There is plenty of parking out the back.

Love this place. Great rare beers on tap. Had to knock off 2 stars because they stopped serving their sirloin tips. Come on guys, those were awesome! UPDATE: Added a star back because Karen left feedback, within a day, about possibly bringing some menu items back. This is why this place is great!

Such a cool vibe and in the most fun area of town. Great patio when it’s nice out, great selection of beer and food is amazing. The inside vibe is so chill and fun and there’s a cozy fireplace with couches. The service is always borderline bad, snotty bar tenders who will only wait on you if you beg really. There is no table service inside so every time you want something you have to go up and ask and wait. The happy hour is amazing! Overall, if you are patient and don’t mind lame service, this is your spot for sure!

Within walking distance from our hotel while we’re in Sioux Falls for work, and even though we were clearly out of place, the bartender and guys at the bar were super friendly and helpful with brew selections. Atmosphere is very hipster but welcoming and personable. Mixed crowd. Dogs welcome. Very cozy and chill if you are looking for a good, new brew and good food. Ordered the fried green beans — delicious, fresh green beans — and a couple next to us ordered pizzas that looked super yummy. Everything’s made from scratch.

Dog friendly patio! Fried green beans and hummus plate were amazing. Good selection of non beer despite being a brew pub. Tasty ciders.

I live in Austin and I was very surprised to find a place like this in South Dakota! The craft beer scene appears to be alive and well in Sioux Falls with a lot of great selections from around the country and Monk’s own varieties. I really liked the lodge-like feel with the tree stump tables and the leveled seating. Overall a really cool place I’d visit again if I were ever back in Sioux Falls!

A great selection of beer and cider! We very much enjoyed the outdoor patio — fabulous for summer nights! We also enjoyed the laid back vibe and the knowledgeable staff.

Awesome selection of craft beer! In house brewed Gandy Dancer«Brainless Wonder» an excellent IPA! Their pizza’s looked great; I went with the featured pizza of the day, fantastic: basil pesto, feta, tomato, black olive, salami, mushroom, and mozzarella! Very cool atmosphere and friendly staff! Highly recommend!

Ended up going to Monks last night after deciding not to go based on reviews. I’m glad I did. I wasn’t overwhelmed with the selection or the beer knowledge. Funny thing is, I didn’t know the name of the bar when I was there. I saw the sign when leaving. I feel compelled to address the service related attacks of the bartender here on Unilocal.First, if you can’t tell that you need to walk up to the bar to order, you are missing architectural and social cues. There’s no question about how you order. Don’t sit in a chair and expect something different. Secondly, the bartender, who I believe is the owner, appears to be an introvert. He answered questions without getting chatty and didn’t offer anything extra. I’ll put it this way, I could have been offended by it, but that would have been my issue, not his. He was not rude, just quiet. Overall, cool little place, but keep your issues to yourself.

In the craft beer wasteland that is South Dakota there is an oasis for beer snobs such as myself.(OK a bit over the top, maybe not a «wasteland» but a final frontier that is on the verge of a beer boom!!! But I digress…) Monk’s House of Ale Repute is where it’s at! Their craft brew selection is unmatched by any other bar in the Rushmore state. Bottles, drafts, imports and locals they have it all. When we are in Sioux Falls this is our standard watering hole. The one small ditty that I leave a star off for is that the service is hit or miss. Some times the bartender is super nice and will tell you all about the beers and help you pick one out. The next they will tell you that you don’t know beer and shouldn’t be in this bar. So take their«help» with a grain of salt or I suggest do your own research on your beer selection on your phone before you order.

Very cool place! Stopped in for a bite to eat and a beer before sleeping for the night. It was a Sunday, so I was one of 4 people in the place(including the bartender). Awesome selection of beers, and I guess they have more in a different part of the place that wasn’t open tonight. I had an artichoke pizza. It was pretty good… it had the cracker-style crust, which isn’t really my thing, but the toppings were great and it certainly hit the spot. I could see this being a great place to hang out and try a lot of interesting beers if I lived in the area.

Monks is one of my favorite spots in Sioux Falls, and the place to go if you’re looking for craft beer, but please know what to expect before you get there.(I do not work here, just a loyal patron). First of all, you must be 21 or over to enjoy this spot. It is, first and foremost, a bar, after all. There are plenty of other eateries downtown for the underage crowd. Secondly, you must have patience. This is not a chain. It is a locally owned craft beer bar. Often there are just a few(highly dedicated) individuals working at a time. If you don’t get greeted right away or catered to every second(as mentioned in other reviews), it is for several reasons. First and foremost, your bartender is likely recommending a beer to another patron or visiting with them about beer styles. Everyone who works there is knowledgeable and willing to share insight about the beer on tap, and they will take the time to explain the choices if you ask. Secondly, it is a traditional«service at the bar» style brewpub. Thus, one is expected to place an order at the bar. Finally, be aware of the food situation. The pizzas are incredible here. I really like the«One Night in Bangkok» pizza, which has pineapple and Sriracha. However, I always like to order the pizza on special, since it’s usually something awesome that the kitchen staff has dreamed up. The pizzas are always enough to share between 2 or 3 people, or if you have a big appetite or looking to eat supper, 1 person. They have a few unique and tasty appetizers such as Scotch Eggs and fried green beans. Again, you will have best results by ordering at the bar and having patience. Enjoy your beer and chat with friends while waiting for food and time will fly by! The atmosphere here is relaxed and comfortable. There is ample seating both indoors and out, with couches and lounge chairs inside. There is also a really awesome fireplace that I like to cozy up to in the wintertime. The back section of Monk’s, which is open on weekends, features an additional bar, so don’t forget to check out those choices too. The back bar also has an epic fountain made of beer taps. Also try the Gandy Dancer beers, which are brewed in house. Don’t forget to check out the events at Monk’s. Their annual craft beer festival(Beervana) in September, is an event I never miss. They have countless rare beers, live music, food vendors, and sometimes beanbag tournaments. In February, they host a smaller, indoor festival called Brrvana. You can get some really rare and delicious sour beers at this event. This is pretty much everything you need to know about Monk’s. :) It’s really a stellar place and unique to Sioux Falls. It’s a hidden treasure and definitely worth the stop. Don’t forget to stop by on Sunday evening for all-day happy hour, and there is also a weeknight happy hour. They have beers for all palates and even some wine choices for people who(think they) don’t like beer. ;) Prost!

The beer selection was fantastic! I was passing through South Dakota & stopped for dinner and a beer. It was South Dakota beer week so they had a great selection of local beers. I also got the Cuban Pizza, it was delicious! I highly recommend this pizza. I will definitely recommend Monks to anyone in Sioux Falls or passing through the area.

Friendly place with great beers. Watch the menu closely and you’ll see some great beers for fantastic prices. The food was so-so, but you go there to drink not eat.

A slightly eclectic brew pub with a wide range of tap and bottle beers. Both the Gander Dancer brew works beers I tried were good — the English style bitter and the stout. The food menu is more limited — it’s a brew pub… Both the Scotch eggs and the pizza special were good. Worth a visit and definitely a good beer place.

We went to Monk’s while on a cross-country move, just passing through South Dakota and I was really impressed. First off, it is dog friendly(and not just«on the patio» dog friendly)! Our bartender was so incredibly nice, too! We got there soon after it opened around 4pm or so and it wasn’t very busy and the bartender was very attentive to us and our dog. They had a lot of beer choices, too. Which could be overwhelming for me as I’m not a beer aficionado but they had a large board that described each beer pretty thoroughly. It has a cool vibe and atmosphere and everyone in there was pretty friendly! I don’t think life will take me back to Sioux Falls, SD but if it does, Moose and I will be back at Monk’s!
