They give me someone else order so I drove back. I drove to the stop light at South Cobb and opened my sub and again it was wrong. I went back for the 2nd time and they finally made my right order. When I was walking away the young kid behind the counter started mouthing off about me not saying have a good day. To add insult to injury the Steak and Cheese was just OK.

Roy’s makes a decent cheesesteak, however, I am not sure if I would drive over here specifically for a cheesesteak. I am primarily in the midtown area, so it would take a lot to get me over here if I wasn’t already in the neighborhood. The cheesesteak was a decent size. I like a little more cheese and onions with mine, but I guess that’s just a personal preference.

Sorry to say, but this is lacking so hard. The cheesesteak is lacking cheese and steak. Like, what??? We opened our sandwiches and found some meat, not stuffed deliciously with meat, just some. And maybe one slice of provolone. And when I opened the sandwich to put more cheese, the bread fell apart. Stale bread, no cheese, barely any meat. Maybe I was spoiled by the northeast and their big cities, who take serious pride in their cheesesteaks, but my expectations are forever high and these don’t meet not one of them. Meat? No. Cheese? No. Bread? HELL no. On to the next one.

Stopped in for a cheese steak had a sweet pepper with onions. Meat was shaved into little pieces not my preference. They had A1 that was a plus definitely better than philly connection. Was pretty good overall, place was clean and food was fast didn’t like the French fries … still searching for that 5 star philly …

I had a great customer service experience when I walked in Roy’s Cheesesteak. I was expecting it to be great!!! Due to the cook being from philly and the hype. It was ok. Definitely not a Philly cheesesteak but it’s ok… The fries are super awesome and crispy and they are super fast.

Very nice, reminds me of «Philly Connection«, and one thing I was BIG on, THEYHAVE A-1TOPLACEONYOURSANDWICH! I have always thought that was a good idea when selling Cheese Steaks! I like the sandwich! It flirted with being TOOO meaty, but, is that really a complaint! I would visit here again!

Really great cheesesteaks. The variety is great and the staff is polite. I like a traditional style sandwich with cheese whiz or provolone, grilled onions and peppers with the roast beef. The chicken Philly is probably my favorite though!

When I walked in it smelled like rotten meat. I wanted to walk out but my coworker wanted to eat here. I gave this place 1 star because the sandwich was so-so and the tables are dirty. The rolls are not FRESH… How can a roll fall apart when I am eating there. By heating the roll up you can’t disguise it as fresh but you can fool some people. If they are used to eating fake bread from Subway. I am sure my body will be make be pay later for eating this junk. Good luck I hope I don’t get sick

Anytime I’m in the area or know I’m going to be in the area, I purposely starve myself so I can inhale a cheesesteak from this place. I brag about this place and am more than happy to patronize this establish. The staff is friendly and the food is DELISH! I just wish they were open on Sundays too but I know everyone needs a day of rest!

It’s 2:02 pm dining area is empty. Not a good sign but smells great and looks good too. Two cops are eating and that’s a good thing truckers and cops eat at good spots

I must say this cheesesteak was perfectly cooked, moist and the bread soft but not mushy. The flavored melded well together, and the Birch beer went well with it! Not bad for $ 10, including chips, for a large.

Although I gave Weeyum’s the KO in the Atlanta cheesesteak battle, I couldn’t leave Roy’s hanging without a review because they do produce high quality product! I have heard that the current owner of Roy’s used to own a Philly Connection chain, and that the cheesesteaks they serve are no different from a former Philly Connect experience. However, I haven’t tried a Philly Connect cheesesteak previously(and if I did it was a long time ago so I don’t remember), so my opinion is unbiased. To me, if it’s good it’s good and that’s that! :-) With that said, I travelled all the way from Lithonia to Smyrna with my wife to try Roy’s philly cheesesteak. We actually visited Weeyum’s right after to compare the hype between the two with a fresh perspective. Anyway, my wife and I ordered the same philly; mushrooms, onions with white american(no cheese wiz). Although my wife enjoyed her philly, she did mention that it tasted just like a Philly Connect cheesesteak and that it wasn’t authentic. For me, having no recollection of the former experience, I thought that my Philly cheesesteak was pretty damn tasty! The meat was chopped really fine and the onions and mushrooms were incorporated nicely along with a generous amount of cheese. I felt like Roy’s cheesesteak was a bit more moist than Weeyum’s, but I think it’s because they prepared their philly with an extra slice of cheese. I previously read another review on Roy’s(by a guy named Tom E) in which he compared it to Weeyum’s, and he mentioned that he gave the win to Weeyum’s because of the«pepper» or seasoning they use. I would have to agree; Weeyum’s just tastes better and is the closest thing to a real philly from the city of brotherly love! However, Roy’s offers a large sit down area, more items on the menu such as burgers, and birch beer on tap… all of which Weeyum’s does not have. I mean if we were to give a review on the sit down space and parking, Roy’s would surely get 5 stars to Weeyum’s 1 star, as all they have is two ant-infested picnic benches on the outside of their building along with 5 parking spaces! lol However, my rating is based on the food-the Philly cheesesteak that they produce in particular. On that note, I must add that if we’re talking about the food, we can’t leave out the fries! Roy’s puts some weird breading on their fries, which felt awkward and I didn’t quite like. Weeyum’s fries on the other hand were fried clean and perfectly coated with season salt. So in the battle of fries, I also give to Weeyum’s! Overall, I give Roy’s a solid 4 stars! They make a great Philly cheesesteak, but for the distance I would have to travel, I would rather make a trip to Weeyum’s any day to get my philly cheesesteak fix in the metro Atlanta area!

I noticed that someone mentioned the similarity of Roy’s cheesesteak with Philly Connection, which I have to agree is Spot On! However, I definitely wanted to try Roy’s for myself and compare it to my recent experience at Weeyum’s. So, in my quest for the best representation of the Philly Cheesesteak(I don’t even include Woody’s in this battle… more on that later LOL) I found myself driving 40 minutes to Smyrna for one of the favorite sandwiches of my childhood. Here’s what Roy’s gets really right: *Bread: the Amoroso roll is «the one» for a proper cheesesteak IMHO. my understanding is that Roy’s imports these in from Philly… sweet! *Cheese: if you want to try the cheesesteak with Whiz… you can do it here. The originals in South Philly come with Whiz, but there are other cheese options you will find too. I’ve had just as many cheesesteaks with Provolone in Philly and they were still delicious. It’s a preference, honestly. *Meat: the steak was nice and tender, as it should be! If you’ve ever had an imitation Philly cheesesteak where the meat is tough… then you know it’s just wrong :-( I actually ordered a mushroom cheesesteak this time and fries, which seemed to be breaded??? Overall, I enjoyed the cheesesteak a lot! So, was it worth the drive? Truthfully, not quite. The only reason I say that is because Weeyum’s takes the edge for me in the Philly Cheesesteak battle here in the ATL… and it’ closer in proximity(still kind of far, though). However, when I have a cheesesteak craving, I will be making the drive to Stone Mountain… not Smyrna. Happy Eating!

When this place 1st opened I would have to say yes! They did indeed have the best Phillies around! Not sure what happened but you can surely taste the difference. I recall watching my food being cooked but now it comes out of s tray and is simply reheated. That’s authentic but not the kind of authentication you expect! I gave this place the be wit of the doubt and tried it once again and as expected. It sucked more than I could recall. I’m not sure what you guys changed as far as procedure but I’m pretty sure you can increase the revenue stream if you simply go back to the basics. I would take a Rjabs philly over this one anyway, and that’s sad because there specialty is wings. I agree with drew! No taste @ all!

Drew and I kept driving past this place. And, finally, we took time to eat here around 2 p.m. in the middle of Feb. 2015. Drew ordered a philly cheesesteak and I had a cheeseburger. Drew described his cheesesteak as «tasteless». My cheeseburger was overpriced(over $ 5)for a pattied burger. The menu says that they are made fresh) I challenge that comment. Very disappointing. The fries were good, though. Crisp. Flavorful. The service was good and I give the staff 3 stars but the overall the experience was not impressionable. The previous reviews mentioned that Roy’s is associated with Philly Connection which I loved at one time. Maybe at a later day and time, I’ll try Roy’s again and try the cheesesteak.

What can I say. First this place has a decent steak sandwich. To me the meat lacks flavor and is a little undercooked but it is still a decent sandwich. I got a steak wit onions mushrooms hot peppers provolone and wiz combo. The fries were alright and when the meat and cheese fell off the sandwich I had a decent topping for the fries like cheese steak nachos but instead of chips it was fries. The place reminded me of Philly, when I was there I went to all the steak spots. Gino’s, Pats, etc. They even have tasty kakes there too. It’s a decent spot but not on my top 5

Just a forethought: this is one of the toughest reviews I have ever had to write, so I figured sitting in my bosses chair to write would be an appropriate way to get it out of my system. For those of you who know(or know of) me, I live for cheesesteaks. The thought of fresh bread, hot cheese, and seasoned beef together makes my heart beat as fast as it would clog my arteries. I have always been on the lookout for the best Cheesesteak in Atlanta, and I had been to them all– except for one– and that is Roy’s. Just hearing about it, people told me «it’s just another Philly Connection» or «it is just not worth the drive». To me, it was out of the way, and moving to Memphis didn’t help things. Thankfully with careful planning and a Unilocal event nearby, I was able to finally try it Saturday morning. When I got off the exit, I saw that Zaxby’s and Chickfila were absolutely slaughtered busy. It was 11AM. Are you serious? So I could only imagine what home to a popular cheesesteak would be like. After the crappy left turn onto Highlands and reaching my destination, I was upset to see that I was the only customer there! I mean, what the hell! I saw on their health score they had a 95 so I know they weren’t breeding cockroaches. When it comes to cheesesteaks, it amazes me how many combinations there can be. To me, I think that ruins the concept of a «cheese steak». And I keep hearing about«only a true Philly CS has cheez whiz on it». And that’s fine, because I will eat one if the opportunity presents itself. However, on this day, I decided to get a large csteak with only melted cheese n meat. With a drink(free refills for soda), it was just under $ 10. I didn’t see a tip jar, or I would have dropped some $$ in it. As I approached the soda fountain, I was not only excited to see they served Coke(yea!), but they also had a working Fanta Birch Beer tap. You do not see that everyday. As I unwrapped the sandwich at the same time I was bathing in Birch Beer, a sandwich so simple looked pretty damn tasty. When I took a bite, a tear came from my left eye. I finally was able to say I have tasted every legit cheese steak in the Atlanta area(please mind you I said legit, not including the bullshit bars that put meat on bread, microwave the cheese and call it a cheesesteak served with fries soggier than the dirty mop in their storage closet). The flavors blended together perfectly. The meat was minced finer than I have ever had. I wouldn’t even have wanted to replace the provolone with the cheese whiz, since it tasted that great. Also, as I was eating, it was great to see the place starting to fill up. I didn’t use the restroom here(so no pics), so I have no idea how they stacked. As I left, they wished me a farewell. So this is where it gets tough. Is this the best cheesesteak I have ever eaten? It comes in at a CLOSE second, behind Weeyum’s. When I say close, I am talking by the hair on a baby’s ass. I think it is the pepper they put in Weeyum’s meat that makes the difference. Keep this is mind though– Roy’s has a lot more to offer(soda fountain, eating area, desserts) than Weeyum’s, so that is why I am left with no other option than a 5 star review. I can’t wait to drive out of the way to come back here again! PS– apparently they serve burgers now as well…
