I ate there this morning, this restaurant is absolutely awesome. It’s a little tight in the inside but the food was amazing and the customer service was also outstanding. You must try the potato pancakes, also the fresh danishes we’re huge and delicious.

Amazing food, large portions, great prices. Service was warm, welcoming. Very dog– friendly. Their potato pancakes and regular pancakes were amazing, but we loved everything we tried.

OK, so this place spends zero $ on maintaining or upgrading it’s interior and exterior but I honestly think that’s part of its charm and it certainly is charming. We go here at least once during each visit to the San Diego/Del Mar area. This time I tried the huevos rancheros. Definitely not as you’d find it in Mexico. Only huevos rancheros I’ve ever had that had green bell peppers in it. Jalapeño or serrano — OK. Green bell pepper — nah, too gringo-ized for me. It wasn’t spicy at all but hot sauce is available. The prices here are a definite plus cuz they’re lower than many similar places. Will return next time we’re in the area.

Love this place! Great food, reasonable prices, and good service. I had been here in the past and the owner(also our waitress) was a bit rude. This time, however, we had her again and she was nice. I had the bacon, spinach, avo omelette with a garlic potato cake and it was great. Except my omelette didn’t include cheese — which it was supposed to have. She charged us $ 5 for a coffee also! Great little spot overall though.

This is the best breakfast place I’ve been to in forever. The service was excellent and everything was clean and inviting. I got the banana pancakes and they were well cooked and sweet. My grandma got the Hawaiian French toast and it was the perfect texture. Everything was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place!!!

This quaint café was a wonderful find. The staff are very warm and attentive. The food is great! Near the beach. A true locals joint. If you are lucky enough to find it, you too will be an instant fan. By the way… the Danish is mega yummo! Can’t wait to go back. I’m lucky enough to live close by. See you there.

The place was so cute and tucked away in a corner of the parking lot. I got the spinach bacon omlete with potato pancake. It was so good. I really enjoyed the potato pancake. Everyone taste buds are different, I liked how the pancake was light and fluffy and not greasy. Omlete was so delicious. Loved how there was avocados in the omlete. The service was great. The 2 ladies working were very sweet. I didn’t buy their cinnamon rolls or Danish but it looked amazing and they were HUGE. Regret not getting. Would definitely come back.

This place is a little shack in a parking lot. It’s older with plastic seats and table coverings so if your looking for a nicer sit down place this is very casual! The staff was very friendly and prompt. Food came out quick & was good. We shared the banana crunch toast and the chorizo eggs served with potato pancake. Coffee was watered down. OJ was good. Overall if you’re looking for a friendly local place this is it but for the cost and ambience I probably won’t be back.

Nice staff but expensive for what you get. Shld have gone to regular place for breakfast but up in North Co trying something new. Not too clean not too comfy. Surfer and kid place, adults… move on.

Quantity the service with the food. Jan the proprietor greets us with a warm and friendly smile. I have not even sat down and she asks if i wanted coffee. Today is a bike ride of day so after 26 miles it was time for a pits top. Our breakfast buddies were already seated and the service was prompt. I am not going to lie the place is comfy and on the tiny side the smiles were bigger than the whole place. I like what I see and the freshly baked cinnamon rolls was delicious. I need to come back another day to sample all the treats.

Hide Away Café is a cute, intimate breakfast spot that is appropriately named because it’s a small cottage tucked behind the main street. It seems to be family owned, and the ladies running the café had put up a few framed photos of their grandkids. I ordered the BACON&EGGS($ 8.55). I think that is a pretty hefty price for such a simple breakfast dish. It came with 4 strips of bacon, over easy eggs, potato pancakes, and some toast. The bacon was perfectly cooked and crisp, as were the eggs. I had a problem with the potato pancakes though… they tasted so bland! I usually love potato in all forms and I thought that was hard to mess up, but I have finally found a potato dish I don’t like. Besides that, it pretty much offers what you’d expect from a diner breakfast, just much more expensive. I guess that’s all due to the location and whatnot. I wouldn’t recommend it for out of towners, but it seems to be nice for locals who become friendly with the owners. Food: 3, Service: 4, Environment: 4, Price: 2

What a hidden gem! This place is definitely hidden away, but once you find it(and find parking), it is worth it. There will probably be a wait, but things move pretty quick. I would not suggest this place for a large party, groups of 4 or less are probably best. We came as a couple, and were seating right away, with several other larger groups on a wait list. This definitely appears to be a family/family & friends run place, and everyone is super friendly. The menu is pretty breakfast-predicable and will have all your favorites. I had the corned beef hash, and it was delish. Their coffee was nothing fancy, but it was coffee. Seating and décor is pretty homey, actually the whole experience was pretty homey; like eating a mom’s house on the weekend. Yum yum in my tum!

A great hole-in-the-wall — I’m just happy my running partner and I stopped by after the Carlsbad 5k. This could definitely become a post-race ritual Even early on a Sunday morning it was busy. I think most customers are regulars. I tried the corned beef hash and chose the banana bread to go with — perfection Definitely plan to return, don’t think I need to wait till the next Carlsbad race :)

Its been a favorite for a few decades now ! Today, I got love and a tasty meal served by a team of grey haired, wrinkled, lovely ladies, … one from New Jersey who gave me the«What for» in just the right amount. Why not 5 stars? The toilet is knee-crushingly close to the wall, the seats and furniture are cramped and uncomfortable, the preponderance of non-finished wood & stained plastic, and the skirting health/safety codes is unnerving. However, parking is good and its a traditional breakfast(endless mug of coffee), minus the microwaving of the pumpkin bread slice. Next time it will probably be Lotus café for a little more Ohm and a little less Argh.

Outstanding ‘hole in the wall’ breakfast spot that would be a regular stop for me if I was a local. The place is tiny(maybe 6 tables) and the appearance inside is not impressive, but the quality of the food is top notch. I had the polish sausage and cheddar omelet and my wife had a bacon and avocado omelet. Both were great. Everything that was coming out of the kitchen looked delicious, so I’m not sure you can go wrong in this place. Top it off with super friendly service and you have a great breakfast experience. I’ll bet this place stays packed in warmer weather, but we were able to get a table due to it not being a busy part of tourist season(March).

I was craving a «local mom’s kitchen» breakfast this morning. We went to a nice place in La Jolla yesterday with great ratings for breakfast and this place beat them despite their«hole in the wall feel». These ladies have service down pat. My request for soft eggs were perfectly served(which is rare). The Hawaiian French toast was the Best I’ve had in a long time. The bacon was exactly how I like it — crispy, thin cut, and perfect with every bite! My hubby’s Greek omelet was done just right. He loved the potatoes and his toast was done perfectly with butter on it. Have nothing but positive reviews for this place and these fine woman. Thank you for starting our Sunday just right!!!

We arrived early on Sunday morning, so we very much beat the rush that started around 8am. We chose to sit outside on a small patio — watching cyclists prepare for their big race in the car park. This place is an old garage, hidden away on one side of a carpark — but it is just a two minute walk to Fletcher park and the beach. It’s a small place, with close set tables, very friendly staff. The coffee cups were genuinely bottomless and service remained good even when the restaurant began to fill up. I ordered Huevos Rancheros and my friend had steak and eggs — both were well prepared.

I got the Bacon spinach omelette. It was probably the best omelette. They probably put a whole avocado in there. For those who love avocados, this is your omelette. I just hate when other restaurants are cheap on avocado. You can also order a side of their homemade bread instead of toast. I got the banana nut bread. Wishing I had gotten the pumpkin bread. The banana nut bread was good but pumpkin is my all time favorite. I didn’t get it because I’ve been making pumpkin muffins all season and figured I knew how to make pumpkin bread too. We also ordered a Danish to go. This was a little too sweet to me. All in all, I still give this place 4 stars because I just loved the omelette. :)

Hideaway oh hideaway how thou art so good to us hideaway… Oh so cute and always there, ready to serve, never compare, to another that deserves… All my love like you do hideaway!!! :) We order pick up more than we do go in to eat. And that’s mostly because it’s always so packed!(OK also because we’re hermets lol) I love this place and so does the rest of San Diego. Ok, what’s not on the menu and is a MUSTTRY, is the Mediterranean Omelette. There’s an always changing special on the daily, and I don’t mean special as in «price wise», I mean special as in «they put some thought into this dish» and always, always order the potato pancake. I promise, you won’t be disappointed, you may even thank me. ;) Also, don’t get boring old toast, when they ask what kind of bread, ask«what’s fresh baked this am?»… You again, will thank me. ;) The sweet little old ladies waiting on you are just amazing… Be nice, they’re kind and moving as fast as possible. This place has been an institution in Solana Beach… It’s what sometimes«gets us through» You will definitely eat and be very merry if you wander in and order. :) PS The biscuits & gravy is to die for. That’s all. #DontJudge

Hide Away Café is literally hiding in umbrellas and plants, but this is what makes it stand out. Arrived around 10am on a Sunday morning and it was packed. The wait was relatively decent though, no more than 15 minutes. You can tell instantly that this is a locals spot for breakfast. To sum this place up: it’s like waking up and going into the kitchen where your friend’s mom makes you a homey breakfast and just eating that comfort home food. I got the eggs and chorizo and it was good. You have the option of corn or flour tortillas as well. My only gripe is that the tables were really sticky when we sat down, it looked as if someone put ketchup or some red color in the salt shaker as there were random red areas inside the shaker. There was also a piece of lint on the French toast that we removed. Regardless if its fancy or a comfort diner, presentation is still important.

My first time here and the name of the place is quite apropos. I was driving down the main street but kept missing it. Then drove down the adjacent street only to realize it’s located between the two and when you pull up, it’s just a tiny little building. Well, no wonder since it was a garage at one time built in 1931 and has historical recognition. The building is beautifully covered in ivy and it’s really something to see. There is a big free parking lot right next to the restaurant. We arrived late morning and there was a brief wait. There is dining inside and out; I recommend the outside dining because giving the smaller size of the place, inside can be quite noisy. Besides, outside you have a nice view of this building covered in ivy, the weather is generally great and they have Tommy Bahama umbrellas covering you in the event of any inclement weather. The tables are a bit small but I saw a party of four sitting at a table that looks like it was made for two but they were quite comfortable and were enjoying themselves. The menu has the typical breakfast meals and they seem to emphasize and are known for their omelettes. I’m more of an egg white scramble guy but decided to go ahead and have the omelette. They do serve egg whites and I’m sure they would have made the scramble if I had asked. And when I saw biscuits and gravy on the menu, given the«old school» feeling of this place, I had to give that a try as well. They brought out this dish with two medium sized biscuits and a generous heaping of gravy covering both biscuits. They serve the biscuits & gravy in small and large. The small portion is big enough for a meal and you could even share with another person as a small appetizer before your main dish. The biscuits were fresh and very tasty. The gravy was also quite good, but the sausage they used was not the best. It wasn’t bad tasting, but I’ve definitely had better sausage. However, if you are craving biscuits & gravy as I was after seeing it on the menu, I recommend ordering it here. For my main dish, I ordered the Spinach omelette which comes with spinach, sauteed mushrooms, green onions and jack cheese, This is almost the same as what I traditionally order except for the onions so I had them hold the onions. Also, I traditionally have feta cheese but didn’t want to mix it all up so just kept the jack cheese. For my sides I had the home fries and sourdough toast. Of note, they did bring out the biscuits & gravy first and gave me ample time to eat that before bringing out the main dish which I definitely appreciate! The omelette was quite big and there was a generous portion of the home fries that came with my meal. The eggs were cooked to perfection and there was just enough of all the ingredients in the omelette including the cheese. There was plenty of cheese! They serve two slices of toast which I also appreciate because there are too many places these days that only give one slice. And the potatoes were fresh and delicious. I was quite full after eating the omelette. I will say it’s unfortunate that they don’t have feta cheese. I opted to go with the jack cheese which was very good, but just too heavy for me. To drink I had iced tea and it too was very good, freshly brewed. Overall, a good find and if you are looking for a change in your regular breakfast routine, I would recommend coming here. They also do lunch and I would like to come back and try their sandwiches which I’m sure are as good as the breakfast. Lastly, it should be noted the people who work here are very nice and the service was 5 star!
