After going to Gallery 210 for several years, one day I walked in while a popular show was scheduled for later that afternoon at the Touhill Performance Center right next door, the receptionist asked me if I was there because of the show and when I informed him that I came to the gallery for the art, he seemed surprised. Gallery 210 is pretty much under the radar of most art-lovers in the area. I went to college in a small college town, where my first exposures to «professional» art was through the small university art gallery. Since then I have always had a special fondness for college/university art museums. Like most of these museums, Gallery 210 is small, tiny, you could say. There are only two exhibit halls(well, there are three, but the third one is really just a multi media/video display area). However, over the years, I have often seen interesting exhibits popping up that warranted a lengthy drive up to North county. I suppose it is hard to write a review for an art gallery as what one gets out of it can deviate significantly from the experience of another. I do like that the folks behind the scene at 210 has a desire to bring on artists with diverse perspectives. These works are not always super risqué/out there, but I like that the gallery doesn’t try too hard to generate shock value. So check their exhibits listing. You may find something you like. The building is easy to miss, however, it is next to the Touhill and the Campus Police Station building, as well as the Umsl metro station.
