I’ve been to MO Coin numerous times. They have an extensive and comprehensive selection and their prices are fair. But their customer service is, for the most part, lacking. If you want to look around at and size up the counter binders, displays, numismatic supplies, etc., they will leave you to your own devices. But if you ask the guys to see something specific, you get the vibe that you are bothering them. You almost feel like if you aren’t one of those guys who comes in every week to spend your paycheck on gold and silver bullion, they just don’t seem that interested in helping you. But that guy buying small stuff like 2x2s or a Sacagawea Dollar today may be the guy looking to buy 100 oz. of silver next week. The younger gentleman and lady working there are great though. I also frequent Crestwood Coin when I can, and they give you the same amount of attention whether you’re buying an ATB quarter or a couple rolls of silver Eagles. They will make small talk with me while I’m waiting, and they make me feel like they want my business… and they get it.

AREYOUSERIOUS??? I usually spend $ 300 to $ 400 every time I visit Missouri Coin Company. I’ve seen their reviews, but until today, never experienced the owner’s lack of common courtesy myself. I have heard the owner and his employees joking about the guy who always comes in with a sob story that buys silver and then comes in to sell it back. Met the guy too. Seemed okay to me. However, today I caught some of that attitude and disrespect for the folks who keep him employed myself. I left work early to get to the store in time to buy some Morgan Dollars. The side of his showcase had people on it, so we moved to the side nearest the door. After about five minutes, he came over, told me I was taking too long, that his employees didn’t have time to watch me and that I needed to buy and go. Really? Mentioned that I usually spend quite a bit, but he didn’t care. His daughter seemed rather apologetic(FYI… both his son and daughter are great), but the owner has some issues. So, I took my business down the road to Crestwood Coin and Jewelry. Spent my normal amount on a great selection of coins. They were glad to work with me and accept my money. Vote with your feet folks… vote with your feet. I am.

I went here with 2 silver coins. I’ve actually been here twice. After much searching through large stacks of coins, I finally found a 1943 quarter and a rare 1943US War Nickel(35% silver). I also found a 1943 Steel Penny that was in good shape(turns out it was re-zinc’d which is why it was so shiny for being 70 years old). I wouldn’t know the shop had high prices and low pay outs on silver coins if I didn’t have another store to reference it with. On the Nickel he offered me $.70, melt value on the coin was well above that, and it wasn’t terribly worn down. So he made an offer that was well below the coins value even if it was in terrible condition. I took it to another shop, and he was willing to offer $ 1.40 and commented on the nice condition it was in. His Silver Dollars, I didn’t check their prices this time, but IIRC he charges $ 45 for an uncirculated Morgan Silver Dollar when I know a shop a few miles away that only charges $ 35 for its best Silver Dollars. The steel penny, he was only willing to offer $.02. Now the steel penny is a rare coin, and mine was in excellent looking shape. He claimed it had been scratched up by a buffing wheel, and if that were true, I would agree that would erase the coins value. When I took it to a shop across town though, I was told that the coin was re-zinc’d and thats why it looked so shiny. I mean the offer was kind of insulting, considering how rare a 1943 Steel Penny is. The only one he got right was my 1943 silver quarter, and he gave me the correct melt value on that, around $ 4. I decided to buy some coins off him for his time. I bought two silver quarters that were only good for melt value. I then went across town to another shop that deals with gold and silver. His offer on the nickel was double what Missouri Coin offered($ 1.40). He commented that my coins I bought off him had been so worn down that they weren’t the same weight as my 1943 quarter, even though I paid the price as if their weight was the same as when it was minted, so I overpaid by a good $.80 on each of his quarters. The only thing they were the same on was their offer on my 1943 Quarter. His offer on the penny was $.50, significantly higher than the $.02 offer, and not to mention his Morgan Silver Dollars are significantly cheaper than Missouri Coin. I felt a bit gipped on the quarters, I’m giving Missouri Coin 2 stars though. However I wouldn’t sell or buy any gold or silver coins at this coin shop if I were you. Crestwood Jewelers gives better prices on just about everything.
