I got the Mom’s Special. The sandwich was delicious and reasonablely priced. The service was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was clean and homey. What more could you ask for? P. S. the sides also looked delicious.

Mom’s special was super yummy!!! I wish the bread was a little softer, but overall great experience!

Everyone seems to have their favorites at Mom’s Deli because the recommendations on Unilocal varies! My favorite is the rueben sandwich which comes with freshly sliced corned beef and melted Swiss cheese. Also you can’t forget the great mixture of tangy sauerkraut and creamy homemade 1000 island dressing… And all these wonderful ingredients sits between two beautiful marble rye slices… PERFECTION. Not only will you be a fan of the sandwiches at Mom’s, but you’ll be a fan of their homemade sides that seems to change daily and are made fresh daily. If I am in a hurry, I like to call my order ahead to beat the rush and cruise through the check out line. On my off days, I like to sit outside in front on a nice day. The tables are a first come, first served basis and are limited. I wouldn’t describe Mom’s as a sit and eat shop. The setup inside is more like a small grocery stores where you can grab a small bag of chips, their homemade sides and/or a pickle from the jar to go. Also I will or warn you about the line during lunch hours. However, the line moves pretty fast and you better be prepared with your order. Also save room in your stomach for something sweet because Ted Drewes is just around the corner.

I have been going to Mom’s for many years when I lived closer but moved about 25 miles away and don’t get there as much. I was in there last week and all I can say is something has happened to this place. They used to have great sandwiches but now they are just ok. Don’t let the pictures fool you. The sandwich you will get is nothing like the picture with a lot less meat, hardly any lettuce. It was however loaded with the sauce they used but that was about it. I spent 19 dollars on one poor boy, a kids ham and cheese, a soda, and two bags of chips and two loafs. The poor boy sandwich was much smaller then they were a year ago. It’s really a shame because this place was really a great place to eat. I will say that everyone is usually nice, some can have an attitude but usually nice people and the place is always clean and a nice atmosphere just don’t be really hungry when you go.

This is a great little deli in south city. We go there a couple of times a month and are never disappointed. Nothing too fancy just standard deli. Be prepared to eat outside as there is no indoor seating. There is usually a line, so be prepared for a short wait. Mom’s has become one of our go to joints.

Had turkey with cheddar and char-broiled chicken. Both were good; just over $ 6 each. Brownie was very good, as was Ted Drewe’s frozen custard.

Moms deli is one of my top go to delis in Saint Louis. They dish out quality and cheap sandwiches. My go to is the dads special. It’s a tradition sandwich with Italian meats, lettuces, mayo and then topped off with gravy! So good! I haven’t had every sub but I’m sure everything is of the same quality. It’s a great weekend lunch place if you are in the mood for a sandwich and some chips, one of the hand made pasta salads or many other sides.

We liked the family owned atmosphere as soon as we walked in. It was good food, just an average deli. I would pick it over subway simply because it’s locally owned and we support that, but not sure we would return again soon.

Went and picked up some sandwiches on a Saturday at lunch time. Line was over a half hour long, which seemed to be a good sign. Girlfriend got the Mom’s Special while I got the meatball. I don’t want to say«meh» because it was pretty good, but it was nothing special. It was a sandwich. I will go back and try something else at some point, but I’m in no hurry. If I want a meatball I’m going to Vinnie’s just down the road on Ivanhoe

Mom’s sandwiches are just«ehh.» I have been oh, probably a dozen times or so in my life since my childhood friend grew up in a house down the alley from the deli and I was forced to go with her because she«loved» their turkey sandwich… she’s the kind of person who refused to try tarter sauce until her twenties because pickle relish might have been as exotic or foreign as balut. If forced to go to Mom’s I begrudgingly settle on the Mom’s Special as its one of the only sandwiches that actually has any kind of discernible flavor to it. I have honestly made better tasting sandwiches at home. Please do yourself a favor and try one of St. Louis’s great deli’s like Gioia’s on The Hill, or Blues City Deli, or LeGrands… try a real sandwich with real flavor, not just lunch meat between two pieces of white bread.

Great 1st experience at Mom’s Deli today! Myself and 3 picky kids stopped in to grab lunch on our way to the Science Center. The gals behind the counter where so helpful and accommodating. My pickiest eater proclaimed her salami sandwich to be be the best she’s ever had!

Mom’s epitomizes South City. The girls behind the counter are always friendly and you never leave hungry. This is my go-to sandwich shop. Mind you, on Saturdays when the weather is gorgeous, there is a line out the door… but don’t let that deter you. The line moves fast and the sandwiches are well worth the wait. I always get the Tuna with some extra veggies($ 6) and that’s all I need for lunch or dinner. Parking is a bit strange, so if there aren’t any spots out front on Jamieson, loop up the block and come back down Lansdowne Ave. I highly recommend Mom’s for fresh and simple food. Nutshell: Reasonable price, fresh food, great local flavor.

I spent my freshman year of college in a small town outside of Milwaukee. I had a friend come visit once and I made her bring me a Mom’s Deli sandwich because I missed them so much. True story.

I recently relocated to Lindenwood Park after growing up in the ‘burbs of STL and roughing it in LA. Naturally, the prospect of eating good, not-Californian sandwiches and Italian got me salivating at all of the amazing prospects. On no less than 3 separate occasions, different individuals were all about Mom’s Deli, to the point of, «Maaaaan, you just gotta try these sandwiches.» So finally, I bit the bullet. Firstly, the locale is pretty cool — I love the area it’s in and this definitely gives off the hybrid deli/sandwich shop vibe. They’ve got all of the meats and cheeses laid out in a display case when you walk in and if you like your Italian-inspired cuts, this is probably a solid place to check out. The walls are laced with fridges containing pretty much any cold, summer beverage you could possibly want. This is a good thing as the only seating here is outdoor benches. The service is prompt, but not much else. So the salsiccia… listen, I love sausage and am always going to try it on the first go round. This just failed to impress. It wasn’t necessarily bland, and it certainly had some good qualities to it. It just underwhelmed. For the price, there are at least two other sandwich shops in the area that do this exact concept better. Mom’s is a decent little place to check out, and it seems to have a cult following as it’s an STL institution. It just didn’t do the trick for me.

Just avoid it! I grew up Southside, Meramec & Grand in the late 60s-early 80s… Guess I am glad I now travel and have experienced a diverse range of cuisine. This place was HORRIBLE! Sandwiches were NOT good. Service was slow, place was cramped and get this — they do not have a «public restroom” — I had to wash my hands in a mop sink…

This is a south city institution. Many people grew up eating Mom’s, sadly I did not. We live super close and I’m glad we do! It’s convenient to pop in and pick up sandwiches, drinks, and sides to go. However be aware that if you get there during peak lunch or dinner hours there will be a line. It moves pretty quickly however. I love the Mom’s special. The ingredients are basic but they are all delicious!

I grew up eating Mom’s Deli until I was about 4. I didn’t know what I was missing all those years until I moved back into the city in my 20s. The first bite I took, it was nostalgic, and took me way back to my childhood. This is a neighborhood place. You can buy many things here, not just sandwiches. Their best sandwich is their Mom’s special. I don’t particularly like thousand island dressing, but their’s is home made and tastes better than most. I’ve honestly not tried much else here. If its not broken, why fix it? Their beef and cheddar is good though, I have had that on occasion. They do accept cards now for purchases over $ 5. People that complained about being cash only maybe aren’t aware of the fees involved in using a credit card machine. They have always had an ATM machine, but there were still complainers. The staff here is always friendly, and there’s just something about this place that reminds me of home. We get their catering sandwiches a lot for events like baby/bridal showers and birthdays. No complaints, and great prices!

Mom’s Deli offers awesome sandwiches with great toppings at great prices. Food-wise, there’s almost nothing to complain about. Sandwiches are prepared right in front of you, along with freshly carved meat and sliced cheeses. The obvious go-to is Mom’s Special with the homemade sauce. And the bread: filling ratio is perfect. Mom’s is always the easy choice when compared to chains like Subway or Quiznos. That being said, part of me wishes there was more of a bread selection. Luckily I really like their basic white/italian sub bread, but if you’re wanting to try something else out you might be disappointed. Also, the biggest problem with Mom’s — and a big reason it doesn’t get 5 stars — is the way to order. If you come at the right time you’ll walk right to the counter, have your sandwich made in a jif, and walk away satisfied. However, if you walk in at the wrong time, say, a lunch rush, you may be waiting a while in a winding line that fills up the small inside quickly and snakes outside. That’s pretty minor though. And you can always place orders by phone as well. Overall, a great lunch place for a filling sub that can last 2 meals. They sell most brands of chips, soda, and some alcohol you can peruse while in line as well. So when planning a day out at Forest Park or Tower Grove stop by Mom’s first to pick up lunch and drinks! Also, there is confusion about their credit card policy. My first visit to Mom’s was last year when I moved to STL and at that time they didn’t accept cards. However, now they do accept cards when purchases are more than $ 10(or maybe it’s $ 5…I had cash on my most recent visit so I didn’t take note. But hey, 2 sandwiches and drinks will run you a lil under $ 15 so no worries either way!).

Gave it another shot but it just isn’t the sandwich place for me. Maybe growing up in a house with a vegetarian made me health conscious and used to hummus, alfalfa, artichoke, peppers, cucumber, spinach, and healthy meals. Mom’s is much more of a meat only drenched in thousand island or gravy. Sometimes both?(The gravy tastes pretty good). Honestly subway and penn station are much more to my liking. And I’m sure St. Louis has some more vegetarian friendly options but as a sandwich place, I’ve come to expect certain things. If you want to go to a south city deli, I’d recommend legrand’s instead. Much better meat(still no veggies).
