Great fish, great macaroni salad, excellent baked beans… they serve cold beer and prices are very reasonable… we love the place

Decided to give Hobos a try based upon positive reviews. Was concerned about the comments about cigarette smoke because I can’t enjoy a meal if the smoke is too prominent. When we walked in it was busy with little available seating. The smoke was evident but not overwhelming. It’s a seat yourself place and we took two open seats at a table of 6 by the door(was concerned the smoke would be heavier the farther in we went. Customers were really friendly. Had the catfish nuggets and they were good as was the rest of our meal. Overall, food was good, service was good and prices were good. If you are ok with the smoke I would recommend you give it a try.

Come on been going here for years great food. Service iffy at times. Today was told if I wanted extra empty plate they charge a dollar. Husband ordered fries and burger and I ordered potato salad. When asked for extra plate charge extra dollar come on good food but not a five star restaurant. I’ve been to 5 star restaurants and not asked this. What next charge for straw?

i recently had a manager at work offer me a lunch from here– If you’re looking for healthy options they have a wide variety of salads! I didn’t go here so not sure what it looks like? but, Prices are reasonable and food is fresh. I would definitely eat here again. Overall the place has nice lunch options and everyone here loved their food!

In a legion hall, but still was very crowded around dinner time! Service– SLOW! Only saw our actual waitress twice. Another waitress saw no one was taking our order and came over. Food– We went for the fried chicken(we love fried chicken lol) and heard it was good. We were not disappointed! We were also surprised how reasonably it was priced($ 7.99 for 3 piece– I got breast, leg, thigh/BF got«half a cluck» for $ 9.50)It had a great flavor, crispy, and breading stayed on well. I also liked the chicken had a little kick, but not too spicy for bf who hates spicy food. The green beans were also good. The twice baked potato casserole was ok. I didn’t like the fake bacon taste, and also a bit salty. The regular mashed potatoes were better. Overall, we liked the food and will go back when we’re in the mood for chicken!

Went in at about 7:30 on a Saturday night, only had to wait for a table to be cleaned off. Waitress was outstanding, always had our drinks topped off and prompt service. Food was excellent and hot when arrived at our table. Portions are huge. Had the 3 piece catfish dinner and should have gotten the two piece. For 5 people the bill was only 51.00, in this day in age I would say thats a great deal! Will definitely be back.

Was told by a friend to give this place a try. Good food and priced right. I had the fried chicken the wife had the Reuben. My chicken was outstanding, can’t wait to go back and have again. Wife liked her sandwich loved the home made chips as the side. The only downside is they allow smoking inside. This may be because they lease from the Legion and they have to allow it for the membership. It’s a shame because today most folks don’t smoke and really prefer a smoke free place to eat.

Terrible service from one of the angriest and unpleasant servers I’ve met. After being seated we ordered an appetizer. 45 minutes later we had not received it. When we asked chance are currently«it will be out when it’s ready». An hour and 10 minutes after we set our dinner finally arrived. She mumbled something about the kitchen being«slammed» when I reality she clearly forgot to put our order in. The food was ok but the oil clearly had a burned flavor. The perfect place for people with low expectations.

My in-laws love the fried chicken at Hobos, and consequently, I’ve had a few meals here. The food is pretty good. I’d call it country-style bar food. Think wings, catfish nuggets, burgers, sandwiches, and lots of fried options. If you’re counting calories, you won’t have too many choices. On some dishes, you can opt for grilled pork or chicken. I’ve had the Cajun grilled chicken salad, which I customized a bit, and that was a good choice. On my last visit, I dined with my in-laws, my husband, and my mom. My mom and I both ordered the catfish nugget plate. The plate came with two sides, and we both selected green beans and mashed potatoes. The catfish portion was huge! My mom and I easily could have ordered two extra sides and shared the fish from one plate. Unfortunately, the food on that visit was incredibly salty. I happen to love salt. Salt on my french fries? Yes, please. Chips and salsa? Just hand me a spoon; I don’t even need the chips. I’ll eat that salsa as if it were gazpacho. Sometimes I eat so much salt that I wake up the next morning with ridiculously swollen hands.(Yes, I know that’s not healthy.) Anyway, before I could say anything about my food, my mom said, «Whoa! This is really salty.» My husband, who was having a burger and fries, chimed in with«Yeah, mine’s salty, too.» The in-laws didn’t say anything. They were enjoying their fried chicken, which my mother-in-law claimed might be «the best [she’d] ever had.» This likely was an isolated occurrence, but it was a shame. The food looked appealing, and apart from being overloaded with salt, it was good. I have hypothesized that the cooks were listening to the Ying Yang Twins that day. They took«shake it like a salt shaker» literally, resulting in food that made me «say I yi, yi-yi-yi.» –The Rating– Service has been great on each visit, but overall, Hobos gets 3 stars from me. As mentioned, the food is generally good. However, the salt issue obviously was disappointing to me on my last visit. Hobos is a restaurant/bar, and somewhat unsurprisingly, it is not a smoke-free environment. The senses of taste and smell are intertwined, and cigarette smoke diminishes my ability to enjoy my food. It hasn’t been too bad on other visits, but on my last visit, I happened to be sitting next to a table of smokers. Lastly, a four-star rating on Unilocal means«Yay! I’m a fan.» And I just can’t say that I am. If you don’t mind cigarette smoke and can overlook a random Unilocaler’s one salty meal, you might enjoy this place. It’s A-OK in my book. EDIT(1÷14÷15): The business responded to my review in regard to their healthy menu choices. I did not mean to sound displeased with their healthy options. I ordered catfish nuggets on my last visit, so I must not be too upset. :) I don’t recall how they prepared it(e.g., grilling, baking), but on one visit, my friend had a light meal of unbreaded fish and green beans. I was hesitant to mention that in my review because it was a special request. However, based on the response from the business, it sounds like they are willing to work with you if you have dietary restrictions.
