I used to be a fan of the American Cancer Society but the last time I was there, I had purchased a cabinet and I asked the ladies inside if someone would help me out with the cabinet when I returned a few days later with a truck. They assured me that someone would. When I returned a few days later, the lady in charge said that her volunteers were minors and they were not permitted to help me load the piece into my truck. I told her the ladies inside assured me that someone would be helping me and she needs to better train people on telling correct and incorrect information. She told me to hire a moving company to move the piece. I told her I would be back in a few days with family members but I would never shop there again nor would I donate to them again.

I love this place. Always treasures to be found… Clean and organized. A bit overpriced but for a great cause. I always ALWAYS love the adorable ladies that volunteer. Today I wasn’t feeling the love. The manager on this visit left me feeling like a naughty child. It was with regards to a loading issue and I didn’t bring my own muscle… Rather than tell me nicely that I was required to load my own furniture I was scolded long and loud in front of all of the shoppers. I was able to get my items loaded thanks to some very sweet and helpful volunteers. I will most certainly shop here again and because I’m a good girl, follow the rules regarding pick up(which aren’t posted or mentioned so who knew right!?) Just had to Unilocal out about feeling so scolded after being a good and long time customer.

Whenever I have gently used household items or items new in the box that were never used I always come here to donate them. The American Cancer Society helped take care of a good friend of mine when she had her fight with cancer. I want to support them so they can continue to help others.

American cancer society Discovery Shop on Alpine Ave in Stockton, California. I came in today because I was looking for a few things. Bike parts(BMX), children toys and Men’s clothes for yours truly :) I didn’t succeed on bikes parts because they don’t carry them. For the toys I noticed some stuffed animals and books for the young ones. The Mens section is very small, basically one rack for pants and tops and one sweater rack. I found a few pair a pants that I would wear. Some Dockers for $ 8. The Levi’s were $ 6 but all the sizes were to small for me waistline 30 – 32 no bueno :(:( I’m thick and curvy, so I need my pants to be minimum waistline 36 but I prefer 38 :) The children’s section is about the same for clothes. The toys are put above the clothes so you can see them displayed at eye level. Now for the woman section it’s about 90% all women’s items. I didn’t get the chance to check out every single item they sell. So I took a few pictures to help out :) The staff on hand today was two. One girl on the sales floor and the other holding it down on the register. The girl on the sales floor did help me out on showing me around a bit. The place is well kept up and organized extremely well for a tight space. So yeah I’ll definitely be back. Oh on a sidenote when you Unilocal check in you get 10% off your purchase. I recently visited family and I wanted to experience the local thrift shop scene. I used Unilocal to find all of my favorites like goodwill and salvation army. when i came across the American Cancer thrift stores, I have never visited one, so I thought I would try one out. Upon entry in the shop, I find it buzzing about with very helpful women who seemed to be having a nice time. The store is clean and very well organized. There isn’t that«Thrift Store» smell of smoke and grime like you get in some of the smaller shops. They keep the products well merchandised so you have to take your time when you go through the stuff because I found some really cool vintage treasures(mainly china and silver which is what I collect). The prices weren’t too bad. I was enjoying myself until a woman came out of the back named«Jackie». She began snipping off orders to the ladies and the whole vibe of the place stopped. I have been shopping for years at thrift stores and I have NEVER experienced what I saw that afternoon. She was yelling at one customer because her child was off in the corner unattended. She yelled at every one of her employees at least twice. The one woman standing beside me was verbally put down and she began to cry. I was appalled. Apparently, the ACS has very low hiring criteria if this is the store Manager. I was so upset at the way she treated her employees that I put down my goods and left the store. If you’re looking for a good deal or a treasure, then this is a good place. Just make sure to call ahead and avoid«Jackie» she brings the entire place down and gives it the«sweat shop» feel. Other than that, it’s a cool little hang out.

My review is based on my experience with donating. They helped me right away, directed to the drop off area, had 3 people come out to help me and each and every employee thanked me for choosing to donate to them. It really made me want to do more. They were genuinely so thankful. Sooooooo– next time you go through your closet consider this spot to donate to. It goes to a great cause!

This store looks like it would have good stuff. I say that because stepping in the door gave me a full blown asthma attack from the(hard of smelling) staff, playing dueling toxic perfumes. Lighten up the sprayers ladies, think about unsuspecting people and your part in causing to them become another asthmatic statistic. *gasp* *choke* *wheeze* *can’t breathe and almost barf* at the same time. I’m going to look for one of those«bee-keeper» costumes like Mothra Stewart had made special, and go in there and spray the steam that controls the bees.

Very nice shop selling«second hand» and sometimes unused items in very good condition. Clothing, accessories and household goods are presented very nicely, and clothing is «steamed» so that you see no wrinkles. The volunteers are extremely helpful, and the staff are very upbeat – the store supports an extemely good cause. You can find many high-quality labels in the store, and they also accept donations.

This is the nicest thrift store in Stockton. The store is always clean, well-organized, and there is enough room to move around to browse. The ladies who work there are all pleasant, too. The manager, Jackie, is exceptionally gracious to customers and donors. The merchandise is presented in attractive displays, and is usually name-brand or even designer brand. The items are always clean and in good repair. The shoes are generally excellent too. Sometimes the prices seem a little high, but the quality makes up for that, as well as the fact that it raises money for the cancer society. The reason I don’t give 5 stars is because they no longer carry children’s clothes, but that isn’t such a big deal in Stockton because there are many other options for that.
