Michael P Cheng, DDS

Saw the recommendations on Unilocal before deciding to come here. To be honest, I have never gone to a dentist after moving to the west coast and don’t have much to compare with.
As soon as I walked in, I was presented with a bunch of papers to fill out. I am always skeptical about sharing my SSN with anyone, so when I filled out everything else and asked that I not share the SSN, they were very accommodating. Plus one star for that. They were able to confirm my dental insurance and presented me with a summary of my benefits.
The waiting room was clean and the music playing in the background was pleasant. Plus the wait wasn’t very long. This was my first visit and Chelsey did my cleaning. She did do a thorough job and I am now coming back for a few fillings and deep cleanings.

I’ve been to Dr. Cheng’s practice twice already and have the utmost appreciation for him and his staff. Dr. Cheng is extremely professional, friendly, and very good at what he does. I had some old fillings and he did a great job; within 50 mins I was in and out and the alignment feels perfect. I’ll soon be going back for a 3^rd visit. He also took the time to explain why I may need to see an orthodontist surgeon due to the position and roots of my wisdom teeth.
His office is organized, spotless, and it’s nice to see updated equipment/​techniques like cameras and composite fillings that make the filling blend in with the tooth. The office is centrally located in Santa Clara and there’s plenty of parking.
My visits have been more enjoyable due to his incredibly friendly and courteous staff: Geraldine, Xyris, and Mary.
I’ll definitely be coming back here again.

I absolutely love coming to Dr. Cheng’s office. He is really professional and takes his time to explain and any questions I might have. The staff is so friendly, my assistant always Offers me water and a movie to watch as I am waiting for Dr. Cheng. The office is nice and clean and they always have pleasant music playing. Definitely recommend this office to anyone.

I had to find another DDS because my insurance changed. I was in a state of dread because, in my estimation, It’s so hard to find an excellent dentist! I found Michael Cheng in Sunnyvale, conveniently located near Costco! :) HE AND HIS STAFF ARE EXCELLENT. Professional, state-​of-​the-​art equipment, kind, SMART. The gal at the front desk even let me park my very expensive bike inside the office instead of locking it outside. And she held the door open for me when I was leaving! Generous and kind people over there. You owe it to yourself to make MP Cheng your new DDS if you’re looking to find a new one or upgrade your existing… my former DDS was good technically, but didn’t have the TOOLS that showed me what my teeth **really** look like (the picture detail of my teeth and gums was astonishing). Only with the proper diagnostic tools, in my opinion, can you get the attention your oral health condition deserves.

Came recommended by you Unilocalers and I’m glad I did. I can’t comment on my experience with Dr. Cheng as Dr Cheng was away when I requested to be a patient. Their sub, Dr. Christina, was professional, gave great advice and was extremely friendly.
Office is neat and clean. Cleaning took the estimate hour, even with xrays.
Scheduling with the office is a little off putting, email and calls simply take longer to be returned. But Judy the receptionist is extremely kind and does her best to accommodate your appointment needs.
The office is in the back of the building you see from the street, so turn into the parking spaces between the two buildings for best parking. They took my Aetna PPO insurance and walked out without paying anything.
When I was scheduling my appointment for fillings, Judy suggested I go with the white filling as she said «concerns about mercury in the silver fillings». Uh, aren’t we in 2015 where you should be meeting health and safety standards, even for the less expensive option? I was going to go white anyway, but her comment made me take pause at her suggestion. Worth a grain of salt?

Moved into the area and found a dentist I trust. He does great work, puts in care with what he does because my husband and I have no regrets. 3 visits in and my teeth are happy campers. Had some teeth redone because the fillings were old. No complications and teeth look new, eating just fine. Haha!

My friend recommend me this place. Sill I’m worried because I have a large hole in one of my teeth for years, and it’s very very close to the nerve.
However, Dr. Cheng saved my teeth with his excellent and accurate skill! So far there is no pain, and I feel very comfortable.
Highly recommend this place, its also kid friendly, I’m planning to bring my kid here for his first teeth examination.

Today was my first time here to Dr. Cheng’s office. I recently switched insurance plans and had to switch all my doctors, what a pain!
Found Dr. Cheng through my provider’s list cross-​referenced with Unilocal.
Staff was very friendly and nice. They provided me with all the information and most of the paperwork ahead of time so that I could just bring it with me day of the appointment.
They asked if I had any issues or concerns before we started and I told them about my concern for my wisdom teeth. They ended up taking a new 360 style x-​ray for them. Started my cleaning and halfway through Dr. Cheng came in.
They were very helpful. I even got a pre-​screening for oral cancer from Dr. Cheng, which was a pleasant surprise. None of my previous dentists had done so. My hygienist, Winnie, was also super nice and gentle. The entire cleaning process was painless and she really took her time to clean my teeth.
Dr. Cheng wrote me a referral for oral surgeon consultation. I will be getting that looked at in 2 weeks time. Overall, wonderful staff and experience here. Glad my teeth are in good hands!

Gums, gums, gums, having healthy gums is vital to healthy teeth, as Dr Cheng taught me on my first visit 6 months ago. He went over the proper method to brush both the gums and teeth. I don’t remember my previous dentists ever done that or blocked it out. I had my second visit and he is just as nice. I like hearing my teeth and gums are good. His office seems more busy and have more staff this time. The high tech equipment is a plus, instant viewing of the x rays. My teeth and gums thank you Dr Cheng.

I came here after a 2 year hiatus from any previous dental work, so one can imagine how nervous I was as I walked in through the door.
Facilities
This place is gorgeous, never have I been to such a modern clean office that resonates such a comforting atmosphere. I knew the second I walked towards the dentist chair that I was going to be treated very well. They use software to catalog and detail every single one of my teeth to ensure that I would get the most out of my time there. As a tech geek I was excited to how professional everything was laid out.
Staff
Michael and his staff are the nicest and most considerate people I have came across in the field. With much care he explained to me that my lack of proper cleaning has resulted in massive tartar buildup in between my teeth. He was very considerate in telling me about the health of my teeth and reassured me that he was going to to everything he can. After about 40 minutes of deep cleaning and a few bleeding gums later, I came out a very happy and enlightened patient.
Michael is amazing and I can’t wait to impress with my next appointment. I’ll be recommending friends and family to his office.

Amazing doc ! both me n wifey did root canal… absolutely NO pain.

I’m too busy to write reviews but I have to after getting «almost free» help from Dr. Cheng:
I had a problem with my molar and Dr. Cheng tried saving it for an hour before recommending a root canal. Then he got me an emergency appointment with an entodontist (which is a small miracle); since he knewI would be waiting for hours, he prep’ed my molar again for the next half hour — knowing he will not be paid !! He could only bill under $ 50 from my insurance for that 1.5 hours of work. I felt bad he could not share insurance payment from his work prep’ing for my root canal.
Oh, another thing, he has the latest equipment and his injections do not hurt. I have never experienced novacane injections with no pain till Dr. Cheng !! He is amazing!!!
ps. I wondered why I had to wait three weeks to see Dr. Cheng — now I know — he has lots of patients packing his schedule (must be the great reviews he is getting!)

I first visited Dr. Cheng due to an emergency situation and saw the positive reviews here on Unilocal.I was not a patient at the time but they were able to accommodate me for a quick checkup within a week. At the time, I did not have insurance and they were very kind in understanding my situation. Instead of asking me to come in immediately for the fix after the checkup, they worked with me to wait for my insurance to kick in and subsequently, planned a course of action for all my teeth (been over 12 years since my fillings were put in). This plan included scheduling an optimal time for each procedure keeping aware of the insurance maximum and if it was actually worth the deductible.
This has been the only dentist I’ve been to which did NOT hurt and I am truly amazed. Other dentists have told me that I’m plainly a wuss and/​or to tolerate the pain. Here, they noted during my first visit I may need a bit longer for the numbing process and they keep checking with me if there is any pain during all procedures. They also explain what and why they are doing each process. Adjustments to my filling and crown was even done the day of (when I’m numb I can’t tell if the bite is ok =P)!
Although I’m still a little stressed during dental visits since one can still hear and feel vibrations, this is by far the best dentist I’ve ever visited. It’s far from where I live but well worth the trip.
I’ve been through a regular checkup, a filling, and a crown. Oh, and if they forget to let you watch a movie, just ask.

I had another filling put in for the other side of my mouth (same problem as my previous review) and pretty much, this time it was completely painless. His little needle + shake your cheek technique really works with the numbing process, and the drilling bit was pretty pain/​stress free.
This time around, I got to pick a Best Motoring episode featuring the Nissan GT-​R while getting my tooth filled. Amazing!

Dr. Cheng has been my dentist for couple of years, I recently have my teeth filled in his new office. I generally hate to see doctors of any kind, but to my surprise, it was a very pleasant experience. The chair was comfortable, the ambience was soothing and his team of staff were friendly, professional, and I never have to wait very long for my appointment. Dr. Cheng sensed how nervous I was and he took time to explain and talk to me through the procedure to ease my doubt and discomfort. One equipment he used in particular was a camera which takes a color picture of my tooth so he can show me exactly what he will be working on. I am so glad he invested in this new office and I would highly recommend him to all of my family and friends.

Dr. Cheng has a new dental office. It’s great as it has all top of the line equipment and instruments. His x-​rays are all digital and right after they take it, they will show it to you right there on the flat screen attached to the chair. The flat screen is great as you can see the x-​ray and you can watch tv/​video when you are getting your teeth cleaned.
Dr. Cheng is very nice and very thorough. He will take the time to explain what he is doing before he does it.

Dr. Cheng was my dentist before I moved away. He’s very gentle! Dr. Cheng took great care of my teeth. The first time I visited, I hadn’t visited the dentist in a LONG time. He was very gentle, and during the cleaning and exam, he was sure to explain what he would be doing with all the different instruments, so there was no issue of fear. If you are looking for a dentist, I’d strongly recommend him!
