My husband and I tried this place based off the reviews. We were definitely happy with our choice ! My husband got the French dip and I opted for the ultimate sandwich with a cup of the vegetable beef barley soup. I could only finish half my sandwich, they really pile on the deli meat. Each sandwich comes with a pickle and peppercini which I enjoy. The soup was hearty with great flavor. The staff were nice and service was very fast.

This deli is across the parking lot from McDonalds. I believe the quality to be far superior to McDonald’s! I had the Hula Chik, great, hot sandwich. I will return here again!

Very cheap but you get what you pay for! The food is absolutely terrible and there’s no way it’s fresh. I have had multiple items from here and I recommend waiting about 15 minutes and go somewhere in Roseburg.

On our summer trip up and down I-5, to Truckee from Salem, Oregon, Sutherlin is a great place to stop. A year ago we Unilocaled to find out a lunch option and discovered this little gem. Not easy to find, it’s worth the search. Excellent sandwiches, very fresh. Nothing fancy but certainly a better option than the neighboring McDonalds. Friendly people and obviously a local’s favorite, too. Always a good sign. Recommend you try it when you’re doing that road trip and looking for something tasty that’s not the standard fast food fare!

For a hefty slice of Americana, stop at Smitty’s the next time you’re cruising down the I-5 Corridor. It’s is the exact kind of roadside stop foreigners would assume sits just beyond every interstate exit — red vinyl chairs, black and white checkered floors, and almost humorously stereotypical American menu items that come standard with a dill pickle, pepperoncini and a bag of chips. You know you’re in the right place if you see the Cream Cheese Delight and peanut butter & jelly on the menu. But why stop there? Pick up some mac ‘n’ cheese, a chili dog, or some potato salad for the road! Will Smitty’s knock your socks off? Probably not. Is it better than any of the other options? Absolutely. Grab a flag, say the pledge, and finish your Reuben Melt for cryin’ out loud…

Service was horrible… food was just as bad. We ordered a french dip sandwich that was pretty much all bread. The au jus was salty it tasted like it was made from broth cubes. My lady ordered pastrami sandwich and BTW the menu said the pastrami was piled high… it wasn’t. It was a very thin layer of pastrami. …oh and who makes a pastrami sandwich with no mustard. Apparently they do here. We also ordered a mac and cheese. …definitely made with velvita cheese and microwaved to perfection and topped off with bacon crumbles and a few shreds of cheddar cheese(so the buyer can think it’s made of real cheddar cheese) …you’re better off going across the way to McDonald’s.

I5 is a food desert. Smitty’s isn’t a chic destination eatery, but it is good food that doesn’t make you want to cry. On your next long haul give it a try.

We were passing through on our way back to California and saw this place got good reviews on Unilocal and decided to give it a try, rather than the fast food options off this exit from the freeway. We ordered the cream cheese delight and a small soup and that fed two adults. Sandwich was a unique mix with cream cheese, cranberry sauce, ham AND turkey, lettuce and tomato. Soup was cheesy and just thick enough. There is seating and high chairs in the back. A good, fast option if you want to support local films but be on your way quickly. They had make your own sandwich options and wraps, too.

Stopped through this town to get some food and gas. My food options were all fast food(Taco hell) Considering my options I Was pleasantly surprised. The food was good. I ordered the Reuben on marbled rye. Everything comes with a pickle and bag of chips. Its a local spot. Would definitely recommend eating here rather then the other options!

This is a quick little place. Eat in or take out — either way it is great! All their sandwiches come with a small bag of chips & a pickle — how unexpected! I LOVEIT!!! Their chili is fabulous! Very filling. I have searched for a sandwich place & this is it! The ruben melt that I had was loaded with meat & delicious. I also got a side salad that was a good size — lettuce, croutons, cheese & tomatoes. I also tried the turkey/ham & cranberry sauce — yummy! great customer service, too.

I may have moved out of Sutherlin close to 10 years ago, but I still crave the chicken sandwich at Smitty’s! It’s really a very simple sandwich and something I feel I should be able to make at home, but no matter how many times I try to, I can’t even come close. The bread is perfectly toasted and buttery, the chicken is moist, and the swiss is like the holy priest who marries these two gastronomic lovebirds. It’s perfect. Just thinking about it now makes me look forward to my upcoming trip. And because it’s so good, I always know that not only will I get a great sandwich, but I’m sure to see at least a couple old friends there as well.

The food at Smitty’s is always fresh. The sandwiches are yummy and large-i only need ½ and save the rest for lunch the next day. My husband is hooked on the chili and has to have it at least 3X a week. It is a nice family owned place and the staff are pleasant. A half a chef salad is huge –can’t imagine how big a whole one is:)
