Found this gem of a restaurant by first seeing one of their farms. They source most food locally from the Leelanau peninsula and you can taste the difference. Loved the lentil salad and grilled octopus! Good wine selection too. Small place to I recommend a reservation

Came in on recommendation from Black Star Farms(a phenominal facility)…curtains slightly pulled across doorway, «please wait to be seated» sign in the way and ignored by staff. Seemed like they had enough biz for the night & this was only 6:30pm. Won’t try again or recommend to anyone… will also de-recommend at Black Star. Went to Martha’s instead where we were welcomed immediately and had a great meal. Stopped in again after dinner to complain and found the same«attitude» i.e.: «we tried to help but you were a poor customer»…lot’s of other choices in town!!!

Came here on a recommendation from the people at the 45 North winery. What a great place! The food is all fresh and the menu changes based in the season and what is available locally. I had the beef burger which was delicious and my wife had the special which was gnocchi and it too was fantastic. The menu is small but I’m sure you’ll find something you will love! They have a great beer and wine selection too and the atmosphere is comfortable while still being elegant. Sara was our server and I highly recommend her!

No matter where you are in Leelanau, you need to check this place out. We spent a week on the peninsula and this was our favorite. The service is great, good local bets on tap, and the pork shank was to die for.

We just had the most spectacular meal at 9 Bean… it’s always very good here, but this evening’s specials were beyond sublime. Leelanau is fortunate to have such a good eatery. It is the best restaurant on the peninsula.

Delicious house-made pappardelle & ragu. Fresh tasting radish salad(although dressing is a bit underwhelming). Friendly service.

My wife and I ended up here on a rainy evening after a nice scenic drive. Let me be clear. The food here is fantastic — some of the best tasting food I’ve had ANYWHERE. The service was great, too. The problem lies in the drink pricing. Since when do we get charged a 25% to 35% premium over the stated menu price for ordering bourbon on the rocks vs. neat? This is ridiculous. I questioned the pricing and was told that rocks pours required more alcohol, and were priced accordingly. I did not request more, so why should I be charged more? This premium for drinks on the rocks was not stated anywhere on the premises that I could see. This may seem a minor quibble given the overall quality of this establishment, but paying 8 bucks more than I should have for drinks really ticks me off, and put a real damper on an otherwise perfect evening and meal.

We had a quiet weekday dinner here. The lamb burger was very nice, and the ratatouille special was nice as well. The burger comes sans sides, so would recommend ordering the fries if you’re a moderate to large eater. Portions were appropriate for light eaters. I went to 9 bean rows for breakfast years ago when it was located in TC and liked it a lot at that time. I felt the prices could have been lower but I do appreciate what they’re doing here. Service was attentive.

This place is outstanding. First, call ahead and make a reservation because it is TINY and popular, so it will fill up. The menu changes all the time, so it won’t be that helpful for me to tell you what we ordered since it’s probably no longer available, but I will anyway! Mexican tomato and corn salad was superb! They used fresh Michigan sweet corn and it was divine. The fries and sauces were excellent. And my summer risotto was perfectly executed. Everyone ordered something different and everyone raved about it. This place feels very homey and the service was exceptional. I would definitely return if I find myself in the area again!

Loved the warm olives and octopus! The main courses were a bit heavy, but really solid. Everything was fresh! I loved our server, Nicole. Best server this entire trip. :) Warm atmosphere and people. Happy we stopped in!

The bread was fresh, moist and very tasty. I wish they had more products as they are in a stand alone building between Lake Leelanau and Sutton’s Bay. Still worth the trip. The baker is very friendly and passionate about his work.

Repeat of a lot of the other posts. The lamb burger was outstanding. We got the fries with the aioli as a side. Aioli cup was super small for the amount of fries we got. Drink menu was good. The lamb burger is the cheapest item at $ 13. Suttons bay is worth the drive and an afternoon to walk around. Add a couple of wineries and you have your self a nice day.

Don’t let the faded firehouse façade, the clunky décor or the casual approach to service camouflage what’s going on in the kitchen: this is, quite simply, some of the best cooking in northern Michigan. Why? Apparently, it takes a village. Well, at least in this case a small cadre of village partners including a farmer, a baker(no candlestick maker) and chef Paul Carlson, who utilizes his team’s’ extraordinary local produce, fresh farm goods and superb bakery boules daily in the creation of an ever-changing menu that never ceases to please. Go and be amazed.

I’ve been dying to get here for quiet some time. I always buy the pastries from the farmers market and those never disappoint! Brunch sounded great and we were in Sutton’s bay so it was perfect — no wait and right outside! Cute little place with great outdoor seating. I got the steak and eggs with poached eggs and a pesto topping on the steak. It was pretty good! The steak was a little tough and had lots of tendon to cut around but the eggs were poached beautify and the fingerling potatoes were crisp and salty. And of course I got a pastry.

We had an absolutely delicious lunch here… the lamb burgers were outstanding, and we also enjoyed the quick-pickles on the side. It was also super-cool to drink iced tea made with locally sourced«real» tea.(Yes, in Michigan; Light of Day Organics in Traverse City grows tea plants in greenhouses.) The ambience was casual and quiet; the waitstaff were professional; we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The prices were also very reasonable for farm-to-table fare. Our only regret was having had too much breakfast that day to try more on the menu(like the chicken/ramp soup of the day), and too much local wine tasting to go for the craft cocktail special. We are definitely coming back; we’d like to try something on the dinner menu, and if weather permits enjoy their outdoor seating option.

Farm to table heaven. Everything was delicious! Started with the Raclette appetizer, made from local Swiss style melty Raclette cheese served over perfectly roasted fingerling potatoes and accompanied by cornichon, house made pickled veg, and a thinly sliced cured ham. It was so good my friend was licking the spoon. Next we got a special that was grilled asparagus with fresh greens over house made crostini/croutons with some kind of shaved delicious cheese topped with a fresh duck egg– also yum. We then split the delicious lamb burger– which was perfectly cooked– and pomme frites with homemade aioli. Seriously some of the best fries I’ve ever had, and lamb burger is amazing! I also like getting the mussels with fries for a moule frites combo. Great drinks, too, including a full bar, specialty cocktails, and local beer and cider. They put homemade maraschino cherries in my Manhattan– delicious! We had panna cotta served with prunes steeped in local Earl Grey tea for dessert– it was a perfectly tart and so good! This place has a CSA, so much of their produce is fresh and local, and they also have a bakery, and all of the baked goods are superb. I’ve been here a bunch of times and every single thing I’ve ever eaten has been delicious. Best restaurant in Suttons Bay, for sure, if not Leelanau County. Cute atmosphere, too– they have cool art and a fun patio area. Love this place!

We had a pleasant lunch at 9 Bean Rows while visiting Sutton’s Bay, MI. Everyone that we encountered was unusually(almost freaky) nice and accommodating. We were made to feel like we were the most important customers that they have ever served. Sitting at the bar was fun and we had some interesting interaction with the servers who offered opinions on where we should visit in the Sutton’s Bay area. I saw a lot of interesting things on their menu– I tried the Pasta of the day which was served with a delicious pesto sauce. I am not normally a fan of pesto but this was out of this world to put it mildly. 9 Bean Rows also have a fine selection of microbrews and specialty sodas(including a very tasty ginger beer), certainly you will be able to find something interesting to slake your thirst. Side note: I tried to bring up their website to check some details for this review and it appears to be broken. I hope this is just a temporary problem?

We stopped here for lunch from a recommendation from where we were tasting ciders down the road. It is in the former fire department of Sutton’s Bay. The waiter was friendly and the pace of service average. I chose the Beef Brisket sandwich with caramelized onions and gruyère. My complaint was there wasn’t enough meat and the meat was very fatty. The bread was excellent though. It came with a side of chickpeas and pickled green beans. The fries were excellent and had a good aioli dipping sauce. My sister loved the Lamb Burger so that what I would recommend! The ginger beer and black cherry cream soda was a pleasant change from Pepsi or Coke products. It was great to eat somewhere that serves farm to table instead of the typical bar/pub fare that is so often found in the northern Michigan summer tourist towns.

Seriously — get in here. Lovely people, farm fresh, local food. Breakfast — don’t miss the pastries: buttery almond croissants, apricot flaky goodness, pain au chocolate. Dinner — just about anything is amazing. The charcutterie is special! Sit at the bar, dish the dirt with the fun crew, try the local wine and beer, work your way through the menu!

I had the joy of visiting 9 bean row over the weekend while visiting some friends in northport. All I can say is wowwy wow wow. It definitely blew my socks off and rocked my world. I can now see how traverse city and the leelanau peninsula is definitely making a mark on the food scene(despite the fact that Mario batali is a summer local :) I actually visited the spot 3 times over my two night stay(that gives you a hint as to how much I love the joint) My first stop i had the croquet Monsieur. Holy cow talk about fresh, fresh, fresh. Was served on their homemade brioche, with nice hot slices of rosemary ham, and then the whole sandwich was smothered in leelanau cheese raclette and bechamel. Wayyyyy gooey and good :) the bean salad and pickle was also a super nice addition as well. My second trip, which how epic was it that it was only two hours later, I then decide to grab a bottle of stellar Pinot with some buddies of mine. Chilled to perfection! Since they didn’t eat, I picked at some of the macaroni and cheese– an easy dish to share. Ha! After I took one bite of that cheesy noodle goodness there was no chance my friends were touching it! Lining the bottom of the noodles were roasted broccoli, and they used cheddar, gruyère and sweet roasted red peppers as well. Definitely a good combo. On my third trip to 9br, I got a brunch special that was a cannoli dish with exotic mushrooms, ricotta cheese and some Other items(I can’t quite recite). It was pretty darn stellar, but nothing quite beats the taste of that croque Monsieur :))) While talking to the server, they informed me everything is from in house, kind of a farm-to-table experience, which I find totally awesome. So if you are in the area, this place should be a hands down visit on your list.
