Doo Reh Myun Ok, also known as Doo Reh Noodle Restaurant, is a Korean restaurant located in the Assi shopping plaza in Suwanee. It’s close to Hansel & Gretel Bakery Café. If facing Assi, Doo Reh is on the right. This is a casual and authentic Korean eatery with a mostly Korean clientele. We’ve been handed Korean menus only to turn them away and ask for English ones. The restaurant isn’t terribly big with a mixture of open and semi-private table seating. Against the back wall of the restaurant is a projector screen playing K-Dramas(Korean dramas). Unlike many restaurants in Gwinnett County that cater to Koreans, Doo Reh’s staff is young and speak very good English, presumably because they grew up around here. The English menu is sufficiently descriptive and best of all, includes a picture for each dish. Super helpful. The restaurant specializes in tang and jjigae(soups and stews), naengmyeon(cold noodles), and bibimbap(mixed rice). These are simple Korean comfort food type dishes, designed to be individually ordered, and most are under $ 10 each. Doo Reh also offers Korean BBQ such as bulgogi(marinated meat), the ever-popular seafood pancake, and lunch specials. Their lunch menu is quite extensive and is available Monday-Friday, 10am-3pm. I’ve tried a few items. They include: Ojingeo Bokkeum — stir-fried squid with vegetables Bibim Naengmyeon — cold noodles with meat and vegetables in a spicy sauce Dwaeji Bulgogi — spicy pan-fried pork These guys know how to bring the heat. I like spicy food and the aforementioned dishes were all substantially spicy. Not over-the-top spicy, but enough to make me sweat. The Ojingeo Bokkeum is delicious. The portion size is large and this dish is best shared. The stir-fried squid is served on a black iron skillet. Like dolsot(stone bowl) bibimbap and BBQs, this dish is served sizzling, fresh out the kitchen. The squid is sliced into hearty, bite-size pieces. Other ingredients include onion, scallion, zucchini, carrots, and sesame seeds. The best ingredient: a bed of appetizingly chewy udon noodles at the bottom. Everything is mixed together and cooked in a savory, spicy sauce. If you like spicy food and/or squid, I highly recommend this dish. Naengmyeon are Korean noodles commonly made out of buckwheat, potatoes, or arrowroot. I think Doo Reh’s naengmyeon is made out of buckwhat or potatoes because of it’s lighter color and less chewy texture. Naengmyeon noodles are served cold and are refreshing on hot summer days. The noodles are long and quite chewy. They’re often cut with scissors by the server upon serving, which is what happens here. The Bibim Naengmyeon is marinated in a red spicy sauce and comes with sliced cucumber, beef, and daikon radish on top. There’s also half a hard boiled egg. The other ingredients are a bit«meh,» but the noodles are tasty. Still, an enjoyable bowl of noodles. The Dwaeji Bulgogi is spectacular. The pieces of pork are perfectly marinated and served glistening in a black iron skillet. Scallions and onions are stir-fried with the pork and fresh chopped scallion and sesame seeds are thrown on top of the aromatic heap of meat. The flavor is incredible. If anything, this dish is somewhat greasy and fatty, but that’s one reason why it’s also so good. Another highly recommended dish. Fresh and respectable banchan selection. Banchan are the small Korean side dishes that complement the meal. Banchan I’ve encountered here include kimchi, fish cake, broccoli with spicy sauce, some kind of green vegetable marinated in fish sauce, spicy pickled cucumbers, pickled bean sprouts, and apple and egg salad. I found the kimchi to be above average spicy. The fish cake is good as are the pickled bean sprouts. I’m not a fan of the green vegetable in fish sauce. Can’t say that I’ve had that type of banchan at a Korean restaurant before. The apple and egg salad is cool and mild — a nice source of relief from the heat of the spicy foods. Service is very good. The servers work hard and diligently. Elizabeth is fantastic and a sweetheart. The food comes out from the kitchen in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, I really like Doo Reh Myun Ok. It’s a solid 4 stars and one of my favorite quick-casual Korean restaurants in the Atlanta metro.

This was my first time going to a Korean buffet. Can’t say I have much of a refined palette when it comes to Korean food, but hey, $ 8.99 for the lunch buffet isn’t bad. Definitely come in by 11:30 am on a weekday to avoid the lunch rush. I didn’t try everything they had out, but I do know that they don’t offer the same things every day. The jjajangmyun(Korean noodles with black bean sauce) was disappointing, but I did like the japchae noodles(they’re comparable to Assi’s in the same plaza). I like that they offer Korean black rice along with white, and to my surprise the meat was pretty good for a buffet. I also had some sort of cold ginger soup afterwards which was refreshing. I’m going to have to go back and try more items because the two times I went I pretty much stuck to the things I knew I already liked haha…

We have been going to Doo Reh Myun OK for a while now and shame on me for not writing a review earlier. But the latest development at this restaurant prompted me to come here and write. We started going here because Toh Dam Tofu(just across the same shopping center) changed their menu and no longer offered the typical tofu soup and galbi that we so loved. It was sad because they had really great tofu soup. Well, we soon discovered DRMO and were so happy to have a replacement for Toh Dam. The tofu soup was delicious, the galbi was perfectly cooked, and their spicy pork was incredible! If was perfect! But then they had to go mess things up. No more menu. It’s a buffet now. That would be great if they offered the same dishes in a buffet format but they don’t. The food was OK — they had some spicy pork that was heavily bulked up with onions. Not like the dish on the menu which was mostly pork, more tender, and better seasoned. The rest of the buffet was a little disappointing. But I was in a foul mood because I had my mind set on galbi and now they didn’t offer it. So now the search begins again for good tofu soup and galbi in one place. WHYWHYWHY do these places have to change a good thing? Now we probably have to drive even further to Duluth. Doo Reh Myun OK — if you guys read these reviews I’ll let you know that we probably won’t be coming back just like we never went back to Toh Dam. I want a menu, I want my galbi!

This is my second time trying Korean food. The restaurant has booths and tables. The booths have long, hard, flat seats. My butt was in pain after sitting on them. It seemed like there was a disconnect with the service. The staff are, or course, middlemen between the cooks and the table. But not sure if they completely figured it out yet. I have no idea what I ate. I tried all that was set in front of me. Not terribly good. My Korean friend said that the food style is country style. Also, that the flavor not great.

Too many other Korean places around with better food. I liked it because it was close to the Gwinett Arena and not many people knew about. Its in a nice shopping center with a large supermarket(Assi). I also believe there are other restaurants in the shopping center as well so I would say try one of those before coming here. No real complaints in terms of bad food but that it was pretty average. I feel blown away by some of the other restaurants in terms of the quality of food and portion size. This place was just a bit below the others. Seafood Pancake — Very large but wasn’t flavorful or fried enough, so it was mostly a soggy mess. Cannot remember too much else as I ordered my staple dishes(Galbi and Sundubu Jiigae). These dishes were passable but were eclipsed by the bad experience of the pancake.

Unassuming place in a plaza filled with other unassuming little Asian food places. When I first sat down I thought maybe we had made a mistake by choosing this as the first stop on our journey through all the plaza restaurants, but we were pleasantly surprised! Lots of little free appetizers, about 5 bowls of different things, come with every meal — in truth they were probably condiments, but who’s counting? Loved the little dried anchovies with eyeballs intact, could eat my weight in those. The dumplings, though described in some reviews as frozen and bad, were delicious to me & happen to be vegetarian, i believe. The seafood pancake was ‘lish & the Korean beer ROCKS. In fact, I’m off to the neighboring store to buy more of that. Very friendly staff, and the fact that we used our beer bowls as food catchers before we realized we were supposed to DRINK from them didn’t deter them from kindly inviting us back to dine with them again :)

Food is good, I just don’t agree with the concept of having to flag down servers just to get a refill on a drink. But if you’re up for a good Korean food, then this is the place to go.

The waitress cannot speak english! I pick the dumpling(i saw the review that the dumpling is nice) and the taste is very so so. Me and my husband get the hot pot kalbee but the meat is very hard to chew and sticky ! My husband hate it Even more we should pay $ 44 for lunch and that is expensive for lunch I prefer kalbee box in h mart foodcourt! My husband has been a fan of that calbee almost 5 years, really tasteful and the price is reasonable. I’m sure the resto is for the local korean. So if you cannot speak korean, better eat somewhere else. Because the menu is in korean word.

I hate to break the 4 – 5 star ratings, but our experience wasn’t good at all! My husband and I came here after a day in Helen, GA. We were starving and started off with the steamed dumplings. What a disappointment! They taste like a frozen bag of dumplings from Assi. Plus, they were around $ 8 – 9 for about 10 dumplings! I can get a whole bag for $ 5 with double the amount and make them myself! I ordered the gal bi tang and my husband ordered the seafood soon du boo. My soup was not good and it didn’t have much meat in it. I didn’t like the broth at all. My husband’s soup broth was so watered down. The ban chan wasn’t all that great either. Maybe it was an off day, but we didn’t like the food at all. Service was okay and they weren’t even that busy.

Great food at great prices! I have to visit this place everytime I come to Atlanta. They have a stone pot rice with Galbi that is off the charts! They are always busy and the food is fresh. Service is always excellent as well! They do offer noodle dishes for two, which could serve more. Location is a plus, as its in the ASSI plaza, which allows for a quick meal before or after shopping.

Wow! What a great find! I haven’t had Korean food this good since I served in the ROK while in the Army. Kimchee was especially pungent and fizzy tasting– just like kimchee should be. The bul go gee was appropriately sweet and spicy; great flavor. This is authentic Korean food. Complete with the TV station playing news of the ROK(Republic of Korea) and the newspapers in hangul. Yes… I did get a happy ending here… from the tasty food.

Came here today for an early lunch with the wifey, in between appointments. Some of the dishes I’ve had here several were getting old and boring, so I tried the«cured cabbage and pork belly and tofu soup.» a.k.a. Kimchi-chigae. WOW!!! Bam!(Eyes wide open… tummy happy). Not that the soup base was the best I had, but that for a $ 7.99 dish, there was SOMUCHMEAT! So much so I was inclined to share some with my better half. She, being the better half and 100% nicer, refused… knowing my love and capacity for pork bellies. :-) Side dishes were acceptable, but not as great as Seodulnyuk in Suwanee. Service was friendly but somewhat aloof. Food: 5 stars Side dishes: 3 stars Service: 3 stars Surprise factor: 4 stars. Hit-to-my-wallet: 5 stars. Souper nice!

I was actually trying to eat at Toh Dam in the same shopping center. Unfortunately, when I got there it was out of business with a note on the door bidding a fond farewall to loyal customers. So instead, I drove across the shopping center to Doo Reh Myun Ok. It’s really interesting to see the different reactions I get when I go into various Korean restaurants around my neighborhood. I’m clearly not Korean, and to be honest, half the time I have no idea what I’m ordering or eating(and I’m sure it shows). This time, I had an interesting experience when I tried to order tea. I saw my server bring out some tea to a table near me. It looked similar to the tea I’ve had in other Korean restaurants. So the next time my server was at the table, I asked if I could have some tea. He looked uncomfortable, and eventually brought me hot water and a tea bag. I guess I need to find out what the Korean tea is called! The banshan here really isn’t as good as what I’ve had at other places. It was just kind of meh… some barely-seasoned broccoli, some okay kimchee, pickled seaweed(I think), sprouts, and one other item that I actually liked(but I have no clue what it was, doh). What WAS really good was my soup. I had the spicy beef rib soup. And while it wasn’t all that spicy, the broth was REALLY flavorful and the rib meat was WAY more tender than the meat I had in a similar soup at Kang Seo. I was a fan of this soup. Although this was not the restaurant I intended to visit today for lunch, I appreciated the chance to try something new. And it was a good experience. Now I just need to learn what that tea is called… EDITEDTOADD: HAPPY300THREVIEWTOME!!!1WOOHOO! *ahem* Sorry about that. I got a little excited there.

From what I heard from my Korean friends this was a good place to get Korean soups, stews, and noodles. I took a party of 13 to this place. They were very accomodating and sat all of us. They took care of us and the service was good. Their«ban chan»(food side items) are not very good compared to other Korean restaurants I ate at in the Atlanta area. But I had their Ttbeok Bul Go Gi Soup(beef soup), this was actually very delicious they gave gracious amounts of meat(and I am a meat lover) with clear noodles in it as well. The soup was slightly sweet which I like. I recommend this dish to eat. My friends had Naeng Myun(cold noodle soup) with beef and it was very delicious. All the food are priced around $ 10-$ 15. And any dishes they had that fed 2 were around $ 25. This restaurant had Korean people in the restaurant so it must be a local Korean favorite. If you are non Korean and are the«open minded», culturally diverse person that likes trying new things, I recommend you try this place out. If you can’t read Korean, don’t worry their menus have pictures on them. Staff speaks English so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I eat regularly at one of 7 Korean restaurants in/around Nashville, and grew up eating Korean with a large community in Murfreesboro Tennessee. I have never had such a wonderful bowl of Yukke Jang(beef, mushroom, spicy noodle soup) as I had at Doo Reh passing through Duluth this weekend! Yukke Jang is the soup I sample at every Korean restaurant I visit to taste each cook’s take on the dish, kinda like how I used to always try a Thai restaurant’s Pad Thai before I became sick of it. I also had the bulgogi soup(sorry, I don’t remember the menu name of this), and it was amazing. Sweet, spicy, and very flavorful. The side/appetizer dishes were standard but yummy. I recommend this place to anyone looking for the best of the best Korean noodle pots. Assi Plaza is spectacular enough to visit every few months from Tennessee, and this is our new favorite lunch spot.

This place was recommended by a FOB(fresh off the boat) Korean so you know it had to be good. I had the fried mandoo(dumplings), budae jjigae(mixed kimchee soup), and pork bulgogi. The mandoo was super yummy. It had great flavor. The skin was perfectly crispy, not so crispy that there was skin flying in your face when you took a bite. Every part of the mandoo stayed in your mouth with each bite. Great flavor and texture! Yum! There were 10 mandoo in one order for approximately $ 9, a little steep for Korean food, but so worth it. The budae jjigae was surprisingly good also. I’ve never had budae jjigae outside my mom’s house so I was a little skeptical, however, I was pleasantly surprised. The flavor wasn’t my mom’s, but it was still super flavorful. The jjigae had kimchee, spam, sausage, pork, beans, and ramen noodles. Yum! You can’t go wrong with spam and kimchee in a soup! It was approximately $ 10, and it well fed two adults. The pork bulgogi wasn’t so good. It was drenched in sauce, and it was very greasy. I didn’t care for it too much, but my husband liked it. They had good dishes, for the most part, and good banchan(side dishes). Also, I didn’t have a funky aftertaste, which means they probably use very little to no MSG. It’s very rare to find a Korean restaurant that uses no MSG. I will definitely visit Doo Reh Myun Ok again and let you know how the other dishes are.

Great Korean restaurant. We could not figure it out what for dinner and we were by the ASSI super market plaza. We didn’t want to eat at the food court so we pick a restaurant and give it a try. The restaurant is very busy when we walked in. A lot of people order Hot Pot for 2 and noodles stuff. We order Gaibee(BBQ short ribs) on rice, Kim Chi soup, and BooGooGee(thin slice beef) on noodles. Their ribs and beef are excellent. I do recommend people to try these out. Don’t order Kim chi soup, the soup tastes more toward original Korean style. Not everyone can handle the spicy part. I enjoy it very much and I sure will go back again for the gaibee(short ribs). Their price is pretty good, an order of ribs for $ 12.99. I think is cheap. :)
