East holds a special place in my heart, as I tried sushi for the first time ever here. I’ll never forget being amazed by the carousel there, til this day I haven’t walked into any other sushi restaurants that have one! I recommend grabbing a seat next to it if available, it’s fun snatching plates! They use a color-coded plate system here to price their sushi. The sushi is great, especially for the price, though because of their infamous carousel you sometimes run the risk of picking up a roll that’s been rotating for hours.

I’ve been a regular here for years and will continue coming back. However, the quality of the sushi is spotty. There has never been a problem with it but sometimes it is less flavorful than others. But for the price you can’t beat this place. It is sushi boat style called Kaiten but in this case the sushi goes around on a conveyor belt and you pick what you want. Each plate offers about half of a normal sushi roll 3 – 4 pieces. You take what you want and you pay by the plate, different colors are different dollar values. There is a chart so you know exactly the cost as you take a plate. The offer half price specials on certain days like half price Tuna on Tuesdays. You can get hot dishes, all your favorites. The best is that you can get all your favorite dishes as small plates at a small price. The mini soba is the best. The staff is always friendly. If you aren’t into spicy sushi be careful if you order off their menu, some times like the crunchy crab roll comes spicy even though the menu mentions nothing about hot flakes and they won’t make it without the hot spice. This kept me from giving them above a 4.

East Japanese Restaurant is my foremost favorite restaurant of all time. Constantly keeping up with a busy schedule, I never have the time to have a good meal most of the time. Whether I am with my friends or myself, east japanese restaurant never disappoints. The family-like atmosphere makes me come here every time I want good japanese food.

The best sushi in the area! I’ve been coming here for years now. They have a great selection, the food is fresh and wait staff very attentive. They used to have a membership program where you get 10% off your order and a coupon for your birthday. They unfortunately discontinued this a year or two ago. Also, on certain days of the week, they have specials like Wednesdays is salmon, and Tuesdays is crab. A definite must-try if you also want to experience the kaiten(carousel).

Too many cooks in the sushi area but still very dirty. Wish they would keep their workspace clean since they don’t have anything to do anyway… Grosssss

Very casual and chill place to grab some either some sushi, ramen, teriyaki, tempura or what want you. If you’re a fan of sushi bar setup with conveyor belt and all, they have more then plenty of seats in the bar area. If you would like a sit down setup, they got plenty of those too. Sushi is ok, shumai(who ever wondered sushi place serving shumai too!) is ok, teriyaki is also an ok. Service is quite on the slower side, so this is a great place for a first date or to catch up with friends over dinner

This is my go-to sushi spot because they are consistently good. The sushi here isnt great, but it isnt bad either. Eat at the bar, with the conveyer belt running, you can have your pick of sushi right at your finger tips, from California rolls to Salmon rolls and Eel. Last time I came here the sushi wasn’t that great. I don’t know what happened, but I hope the quality hasn’t declined. I’ve been coming to this restaurant since 2003.

I come here at least once every two week with family or friends. They have different specials each day of the week! I can easily feed myself for under $ 10 and you can get a whole feast for that. Plates range from $ 2 dollars and upwards. I usually eat off of the conveyor belt but sometimes order off of the menu and both are quite fast to get what I’m looking for. I’ve been to many upscale sushi restaurants and I always come back to East for reliable and delicious sushi. To me, it’s not much different than the 5 star restaurants in NYC. Its always a great bang for your buck! The staff is great and the chefs behind the belt are always friendly and smiling. This helps create a warm environment to keep coming back to. Would more than highly recommend to anyone! Just try it so you can see what the hype is about!

From the time this place opened it doors, they have stayed busy, from single eaters to large family groups. This is is convienently located on Teaneck Rd across from the Teaneck Shopping Plaza. I have both dined in and ordered take out. The california rolls, my favorite, are always fresh and made to order. Most of the dishes are affordable, a great place for date night on a budget.

This is tough. If my two back to back visits weren’t so different, this would be a solid four. Unfortunately being served by an oblivious waiter and then having to witness the staff treating a customer crappily can really bring it down a definitive notch. First time was great — oodles of sushi coming around the belt, great service, no problem. Reasonably affordable, plenty of options, no complaints. Second time — meh. I accidentally dropped a piece of sushi while pulling it off the belt, the lid slipped and the sushi tumbled on the counter, and while I’m not picky about most — I’m not eating something that. It was a $ 3 plate, give me a break. I flagged our waiter, said«excuse me, sorry, I dropped this on the table» and he asked, «so?» SO!!! Get the hell out of here. So, I’m not eating this, bye! You’re generally eating at least $ 50 worth of sushi between two people here, so don’t feel the need to eat the dropped sushi people. Accidents happen. A customer across the way, seated at a table with a group, flagged their server down, and it seemed like they were saying they found a hair in the food. They seemed to tell them in a very nice, calm manner. You know what most restaurants do? They apologize, take it away and bring out a new one. You know what East did? They brought over three staff members to look over the plate, held it up, inspected it, and were trying to tell her it was nori. This is what I observed sitting nowhere near them and just being nosy. That shit is embarrassing for no reason. I think they know if it’s NORI or HAIR. You know how I know it was hair? There was a piece of hair on my cheesecake. You know what I did after being shamed by my server for the dropped sushi? I picked it off and kept moving along because I was not about to be unnecessarily shamed again. And THEN, the staff seemed to sort of laugh it off, as if she was making it up, or making a big deal out of something. Ugh. Rude. Since I’ve been here a couple of times, I take my last visit with a grain of salt because there are off days, but it did not leave me with a good taste in my mouth. And I’m probably still eating sushi hair too.

Cheap, quick, and decent selections. Ive only had the sushi off of the moving contraption in the middle of the restaurant. anywhere from 1.75 to about $ 8, depending on the color of the plate – thats what you pay. The rolls arent fancy but if you got a quick craving for something, this is your spot. The thing thats annoyin is the fact that they choose to charge $ 1 for spicy mayo. give me a damn break — especially because i use alot of it

Love this place — never a long wait when I’ve been there, very fresh and SOFUN! Great with groups of people so you can all share the rolls. It hides away from main roads/highways, I would never have known it was here if not for my girlfriend discovering it. I would highly recommend this for a fun dinner.

East Japanese is definitely a must try. The greatest thing about East is the sushi carousel which you can sit at bar style or a booth. Each plate carries 2 – 3 pieces of sushi and ranges from 1.25 to 10 dollars. Most of the plates are around 2 – 3 dollars though. It’s a great way to stack up on your favorite sushi or try some new ones. East has some really good sushi but it is not the best sushi I had in the area. They also have a regular menu with Japanese food, ramen, bento boxes, ikiyaki. They also serve alcohol. East is definitely one of my top three sushi places near my area.

I’ve been coming here for quite some time now. Good quality not great but food always seems fresh. Sushi conveyor belt is probably the coolest attraction this restaurant has. A good spot to come and have lunch with the girls or just a casual dinner. I have ordered the shrimp tempura along with countless sushi rolls. Everything on the conveyor belt is priced by the color plate you choose. For the record they no longer make you take your shoes off before being seated. My boyfriend always busts my chops about that because apparently back in the day that was the rules here. Things have changed.

Coolest sushi experience ever! If you see open seats at the bar, run to it like you’ve never ran before! Sitting at the bar is awesome because all the sushi comes around on a conveyor belt, which makes you feel like you’re in the motherland(at least that’s how I feel). Although the bar is kickass and you want to grab everything that passes by, you need to be careful because your bill is going to add up fast. Different types of sushi are placed on different color plates, which symbolizes the varying prices.

This was the first place I ever ate sushi, many years ago. The main attraction at East is their Kaiten Sushi, aka sushi served on a conveyor belt. You just grab whatever you want off the belt and they charge by the plate. The color of the plate indicates the price. And if you’d like something on the belt that keeps eluding your grasp, feel free to just ask the guys behind the belt for an order. Honestly, it’s not the best sushi, but it is fairly cheap and the idea is fun. Aren’t too many places with kaiten sushi so I’m giving it the extra star for it’s unique effort. They do make a surprisingly good spicy salmon roll though.(it still resembled fish when I got mine and not spicy mayo/salmon purée). Service is friendly and the restaurant is clean.
