Only place to eat at close by to our motel. Fortunately, it turned out to be pretty decent. They were out of the ceviche tostada, but I was happy enough to order a shrimp burrito. The shrimp burrito was huge and way more food than I wanted. I ended up opening it up and just eating the shrimp. It wasn’t the best shrimp burrito(they put cheddar cheese in it! just hate american cheese with my seafood), but the shrimp were grilled nicely and were tasty. Rice and beans were above average I would say. Can’t remember what my husband had, but he was happy. After the huge disappointment of the ratty motel were were staying in, we were pleasantly surprised. Prices were really good for the amount of food received.

The only thing tolerable was the soda in a bottle. People on this site have no idea what they are talking about. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and this is what we call Taco truck food. This is not good food… East Texas doesn’t do good Mexican food… its sad actually. I spent way too much for food I wouldn’t feed my dog. It is better than the local ashtray restraunts around Terrell but that isnt saying much. .My advice, go buy fresh groceries and make dinner for your family, you will enjoy it more and not have to deal with the heartburn.

Great tacos and burritos! If you are looking for a place just off I 20, exit 501, for a quick delicious authentic bite this is the place to go. Super cheap, tacos $ 1.25 smaller than taco bell but much tastier, burritos $ 3 something and huge. Clean, bright, and cheerful atmosphere, smiling service, clean restrooms.

First of all, this is an indoor restaurant. Unilocal listed Cowfish as a Taco Shack/Food Stand and we were worried this was an outdoor/roadside eatery. It’s not. Cowfish is located in a strip mall and is very much indoors. If you are looking for a place to stop close to the highway in Terrell this is it. I went with a group of 4 people. We ordered the 20 street tacos for $ 20(great deal). The pork and beef were excellent, chicken was ok. The salsa was really good. Great food at a great price. Applebees and the rest of the mega chain restaurants have enough customers; support the Cowfish. You’ll be glad you stopped here.

This was barely ok. The wide variety of toppings made the tacos decent. If they would have gone authentic style, this would have totally flopped. The«hot» sauce was like water.

Stopped in on the way headed out of town from Dallas. Best charro beans I have had in my life. ORDERTHEM! Ceviche tostada was delicious, nice that they use a plentiful helping of guac as the ‘glue’ to hold the ceviche on the tostada so it doesn’t all fall off when you are eating it. It was topped with a helping of fresh romaine and sliced avocado. Maybe a little too much avocado at that point, but it was delicious, with barely a hint of the earthiness that I typically dont’ find to be very appealing in Tilapia. Looking forward to going out of my way to stop at this venue in the future and trying some other items on the menu! Service was friendly and fast. Check this place out!

Cowfish Taco Shack — OMG! What a great find!!! We saw good reviews for it as we were traveling in on 1 – 20. Always looking to avoid the«chain gang»(the endless parade of crappy fast food chains that dot the Interstate system), we were eager to try these guys. We were not disappointed! From the young décor reflecting the college town nature of the DFW area, to the amazing tacos, this place is awesome!

We have eaten here many times and we always have excellent food. I personally like the barbacoa and el pastor the best. The verde sauce is great and my kids devour the queso. They also give you the choice of flour or corn tortillas.

Death by Gluttony: I could eat tacos at this place until I died from them. Cowfish is a small, under appreciated, taco shop in Terrell, Texas. The tacos are beyond amazing and the meat melts in your mouth. Never in my life would I have imagined I could find such a gem in a place like Terrell. My recommendation would be the barbacoa soft tacos. They are my favorite although everything else is a close second.

I’m a taco FREAK! This was a pleasant surprise on a long road trip. The carnitas were PERFECT. The meat tender and the tortillas fresh. Grilled onions came on the side and worked very well with the tacos. Wish they were closer so I could try more things on the menu! Prices were extremely reasonable and the service was friendly and prompt. Will hit it again next time I head that way.

Our first meal to welcome us back to Texas! We flew into DFW, but wanted to get out of the area before traffic started to pick up… so we drove for as long as we could before we reached near starvation. We got off the interstate to avoid some construction and decided to drive the main drag through Terrell and came across Cowfish. There seemed to be a pretty decent amount of people there given the time of day(just after 2pm TX time), so we took that as a good sign and decided to stop. Glad we did… the food was awesome. We got several of the street tacos(at least 1 of each type) and all were great. We also got a chicken tostada and a steak tostada and those were great as well. Too bad Terrell isn’t closer to home…

An excellent steak taco! Inside an old Subway restaurant yet well done mexican food on the more authentic side. A fresh detour from tex-mex

Stopped in here today looking for some breakfast tacos, but they have no huevos(eggs). Will have to look to local taquerias for that fare. Anyway, we stuck with the $ 1 tacos(choose from beef, chicken, carnitas, al pastor & barbacoa) with fillers(onion, grilled onions, fresh cilantro, shredded cheeses, lime wedges, green salsa or optional jalepenos(you can get these grilled!)). Taco was good(not great), and torts(flour) were OK — about as big as your hand — not large — but what do you expect for $ 1. It was quick and convenient to(just north of) the La Quinta near Hwy 34&IH20 — near Capt’n D’s. They also have enchilada plates, and other tex-mex plates as well. restaurant was clean and service was friendly — probably worth 3.5 stars. My son Grant says: «My new favorite breakfast place in Terell!» :D

In my opinion, this is the only good place to eat in Terrell. This is owned and operated by the same family who owns«Parilla Tacos» in Canton, TX and their tacos cannot be beat. Try the beef, fish, and barbacoa tacos with the fresh lime, grilled onions and jalapeño’s-HEAVEN. Their tamales are also excellent. The standard tacos are only $ 1 each-are great bargain for a lot of flavor !!!
