La Cabaña

By far the best Mexican food in The Dalles. The food is so yummy. The presentation is really nice, you can tell they care about what customers think. The service was great, our waitress was new but really did a super good job.

Pleasant little surprise, a more than passable family Mexican restaurant on the banks of the Columbia. Credit to the proprietors for not strangling everything with gobs of cheddar cheese. We recommend the carne asada.

Had two lengua enchiladas and a pacifico. T’was the second place in town that I’ve had lengua and it was fine.

Food was great! Got the Enchiladas and they were yummy. Staff was super nice. They serve authentic Mexican food. So yummy!

Very disappointing. Ordered Cabarrones de Mojo (unsure of the spelling) but was disappointed in the flavor and portions. The drinks were good, though. We won’t be coming again.

I had 2 $ 3 tostadas and was completely satisfied. I completed my meal with a Modelo Especial to spend less than $ 10.

Food good with fair prices. Not crazy about ambiance. Sorta odd. Needs a remodel. Anyway, will return.

Wow! After reading the Unilocal reviews, I decided my husband & I would try this place over the other, more mainstream, Mexican restaurant we’ve frequented in the past. He LOVES Mexican food, so he’s pretty easy to please. I, on the other hand, actually have taste buds. La Cabana did not disappoint. It was empty but for 1 person when we walked in (my husband commented on it. My response: who cares if they’re good?!)
All reviews are correct in regards to the chips & salsa: spicy but not too overpowering. I had the tortilla soup (based on reviews here) & the synchronizada (Thursday special for $ 2, normally $ 2.50). A delicious melding of ham, swiss, lettuce, & tomato between 2 tortillas… yummy! Very refreshing. I must figure out how to make it. My husband had the Enchiladas Rancheras, which he said was pretty darn good, «but all Mexican tastes the same.» (See what I mean?) Overall, with 2 Dos Equuis it came to $ 30. We tipped well.
I have to say, one of my favorite things is they let my 16mos have the run of the place & engaged her heartily. Very sweet, since she was squeaking quite loudly at the colorful lights they have hanging. Looked to be a family affair & I won’t be going anywhere on my return trips.

They have recently done some remodeling. It looks great! The room seems a little ore inviting and warm now. The food and service is still great (see my first review), but now the atmosphere matches it. Also… mango margaritas… Must. Order. That. Yum.

Just driving through from Colorado and had a fantastic experience dining here. Fast and friendly service, cute dining area, and delicious meal. The vegetables were fresh and colorful and they serve complementary chips and salsa.

For the weary traveler looking for a good meal this place is great. Decent food, clean, and friendly staff. The lunch special is a great deal.

Margaritas are pretty horrible, Way to sweet. The food and service was excellent though. The shrimp fajitas and carne asada wAs magical.

Had tortilla soup, fresh chicken, delicious ! Chips are fresh and salsa is perfect. Son had the carne asada, beef was tender and jalapeño was Hot, hot, hot! Great spot, would definitely come back. Ingredients are fresh!

As a local of this town I concur that La Cabaña is the best sit down mexican food spot in The Dalles. From main dishes right down to the free chips and salsa.
Ate here for the second time, food has consistently been delicious to me and all of the people with me. Most recently had pollo adobado — chicken seasoned to make my taste buds SO happy.
Service has always been great as well. Restaurant owner greeted us at the door each time, we felt welcomed. In the heart of downtown with easy street parking.

Stopped here on my lonesome journey home from work, was warmly received and the chicken tortilla soup hit the spot on the chilly December day. Excellent portions. The space is clean and spacious, appears to be popular with the locals.
