Charo Chicken

This is just a rating on the food because I did not enter the facility. A coworker highly suggested this place over El Pollo Loco and went it got it.
It exceeded my expectations and definitely took out El Pollo Loco. Their chicken is succulent and rich in flavor. They roasted the chicken to perfection. Biting into the chicken you encounter the crispy, rubbed skin and into the tender, juicy meat. El Pollo Loco chicken definitely cannot compare. The sides complimented it well, and I have to say those too were better. And I’m not bashing El Pollo Loco because it’s been a family favorite but I have to say I’d choose this chicken spot over it any day now. Prices aren’t bad either and I love that they have a variety of things to choose from. And from reading the menu earlier I see that they offer 2 other rubs for the chicken which I’ll be trying in the near future.

This is like El Pollo Loco deluxe I never eat the skin on my chicken but I make an exception for this place skin is on point crispy. Fresh salsa and make sure to get the garlic mash potatoes

This is about their food. Love it and it is very tasty and delicious. The flavor of the chicken is awesome but I think their portion sizes is different each time and can get very pricy if you have family dinner. Other than that I would love to come again.

I will continue to come here, because I really do like the taste of the chicken. However, they have raised their prices. See the reviews… people thought they were not getting quite enough before the hike. Fine… but to Charo you have to up your game here on consistency and quantity. Had a two piece, leg and thigh, with one side that cost just under $ 8 and the leg and thigh were very small. Seriously my 8 year old would have still been hungry and he is slender and weighs 80 pounds. I realize the place needs to make higher profit, but they still have to be competitive with ‘value’. Ok, I think the owner will say they are, but there were very few people in during one day at the lunch hour, as opposed to when it ‘appeared’ far more crowded b4 price increase. May or may not be due to price. Food is always fresh and hot, but ‘sometimes’ chicken with skin is under cooked or over cooked. When it is on target, with skin slightly charred as in name, it is XLNT!!! Workers are great and they’ll redo order if asked. Owners… please put napkins out! Very annoying to stand around having to ask for more napkins. I know. I know… people waste stuff and you need to save money. But that is the point of my review! Give value, get consistent and don’t make saving money so obvious. It feels to Mom and Pop shop when it is obvious.

Fernando and Rafael, went above and beyond when it came to customer service. It was really slow in the restaurant but they took the time to help me with all my questions and took really good care of me! They were kind and will definitely will be coming back because of the service they provider!!!

Decided to try the Apple Walnut… First off, the price is too high for what you get (10.89) and second, if you’re gonna charge $ 2 to add chicken, please make it a good amount! This is a chicken restaurant, right?! The best part of the salad was the walnuts. The apples were brown and chicken was extremely dry. Haven’t been to this place in years, and now I remember why. Oh, and the dressing is spelled «Champagne» unlike the receipt. Smh i

Very disappointed!!! I got a salad that cost me $ 10.00. The lettuce was wilted and they were skimpy on the chicken. It was mostly just lettuce with hardly anything else. Boring and not worth $ 10.00 First time eating here will also be my last.

Hate their service. Tried to order a two piece meal and couldn’t accommodate a 2 leg order for 2 orders bc of lack of inventory which I don’t think he checked bc he put me on hold for only 2 seconds to pretend to check. Won’t eat here again! No warmth with the service very dry at any response to any question I ask! Luis is the person who answered the phone and was not a pleasant person to speak with.

+Located in same plaza with Starbucks, Riteaid, and T-​Mobile Store. This plaza gets packed during lunch time so even though there’s parking, you may have to fight for it!
+Charo’s chicken reminds me of El Pollo Loco but I personally prefer Charo’s. I think Charo’s is a bit more unhealthy since it’s a bit greasier than El Pollo but I’m a fan of their seasoned chicken. It seems like they have some dry rub seasonings on their chicken and they roast the chicken until it’s juicy but not dry. I always opt for the #1 Mama Charo’s chicken with leg & thighs, your choice of pinto or black beans, tortillas, salsa & regular beverage.
+Did I mention their salsa verde sauce is so good? Like it makes the meal much better good! Get their green sauce instead of red so you can thank me later. :)
–I can’t remember if I ordered the Giant Chicken Burrito or Charo Burrito but I think I ordered the Giant Chicken burrito and it wasn’t as good. Funny because Giant Chicken Burrito pretty much has same ingredients as Mama’s chart components. However, when I wrap everything up with tortilla to make my very own little burrito, it just doesn’t taste the same. It prefer ordering the meal and making my own burrito.

I forgot why i don’t eat here anymore. Got the bbq ranch chicken salad BIG on the salad small portion on the chicken. Not worth the price i paid.

Update 8÷31÷15: I’ve been using them again the last couple of months with no issues. Today though, I just went to pick up, not eat there. When I got to the office and opened it, there was barely a table spoon of chicken on the salad! Really?! C’mon!!!

I wish I could give this place more that 2 stars. I had better tasting food in general that this resturant for more of a decent price. I went online and they had a veggie fajita bowl with your choice of extra chicken adverting it at $ 7.99, I got there I asked the guy working in the front about that specific item wasnt on there menu. He said just get the charo bowl which was about the same price $ 7.99 plus we can add the fajitas for another $ 2.50 plus if you want white meat that another $$$, ummm. the total came out to $ 13ish. I got my plate… that was a big olé plate mayb to feed 2 people. there beans were not even that good, there chicken was dry. I wont be coming back

I’ve been to this charo chicken a few times in the last couple months. Food is fantastic and customer service is excellent as well. It’s been the same guy, Luis who takes me order every time I have come in and he is super nice, helpful and very attentive to the needs of the customers.

I was waiting for my family to come so we can eat here at Charro. I had never been, I figured I’ll wait for them outside. The manager told his employee, did not have the balls, to come be tell me himself that seating is for customers only !!! He then explained that people have came by and trashed his outside patio, so I asked «do I look like the type that would do that ???» Anyway this guy is a racist prick which is weird because he is a minority too! What a piece of shit !!! Please never come here ever !!!

This place is okay. The chicken is excellent, good enough to make me visit once every couple of months. The main problem is that the sides are lacking and the prices are high. Yesterday I got a breast, wing, guacamole, and a side salad for $ 9.80 after tax and was barely satisfied. Should’ve been 8 bucks straight up, then it would’ve been a good deal. I will say the guacamole is thick and flavorful.
The chicken is very tender and moist. Really like the seasoning they use as well, it’s a slightly spicy paprika type spice. The skin has a lot of flavor, the chicken gets more basic the closer you get to the bone. I’ve had the mashed potatoes before and they were highly saturated in butter and salt. The potatoes seemed like they had been warmed up in a microwave. Beans and rice are very standard.
If the prices were a dollar less I’d be more inclined to give it 4 stars. But for what you get I’d say 3 stars is fair.

Love the chicken. Destroys El Pollo Loco.

Just waited an hour for a delivery… The cashier just called to tell me they are canceling my order bc they don’t have a driver?!? Used my credit card and all… Who does that?!? Never ordering from them again!!!

This is our 2^nd visit, and definitely our last.
I ordered an 8 piece family meal, which to begin with is way over priced ($ 20.99 + tax) for chicken and a couple of sides.
They gave us the chicken that was bone dry, it had obviously been sitting on the grill way too long and had turned into chicken jerky. Unfortunately we didn’t realize it until after we got home and I wasn’t going to do another 30 minute round trip before dinner.
As a matter of principal, and the fact that our dinner was ruined (Chicken wise), I went back a couple of days later when I was in the area to let the manager know I’m a dissatisfied customer.
Under normal conditions, a good manager would make it right, apologize for your trouble and would thank you for the feedback. So they can improve their product and service.
Well that’s not what happened. Exactly the opposite. After explaining, all he did was ask «Did you call and tell us about it the same night of your purchase, and do you have the receipt?». I said yes I have the receipt and no I didn’t call, that’s why I’m here now.
His cold, emotionless response was, if you didn’t call, then I can’t do anything. That’s our policy.
I asked where does it state that policy. There was nothing posted on the walls, there was nothing on the receipt, how can you impose some unreasonable rule where we have to read your mind in order to comply.
Who would think you have to first call them on the phone immediately or too bad, you’re out of luck. Most people go back to complain later with the receipt. It made no sense, and I told him so.
Guess what he finally offered? A «10% off discount for my next purchase»,
What an insult… like I would buy more crappy chicken from this jerk. Obviously he doesn’t want repeat business, I wonder if they even want business. He was just as dry and cold as the chicken, he should not be in people business or the food business for that matter.
Both times I was there it was in the 5:30 to 6:30 PM range i.e. dinner time, and the place was empty. I wonder why?
GREAT alternatives: Go to El Pollo Loco. Much less expensive OR
go to a grocery store deli and get a Whole Rotisserie Chicken for $ 6.99. Compared to them, it’s much more gourmet Ha! Ha!
Unless you like getting ripped off, don’t go to «this» Charo Chicken.

First time here, ordered whole chicken meal and it was really good. Little greasier than I was expecting but with skin had good flavor without ehhh. If your looking for a healthier choice I’d stick with the fit meal they have but wouldn’t expect too much flavor with it since it’s skinless chicken beast with a side salad or hit that fish place across the way. Friendly and fast service. Ask for extra napkins cause again the marinade on the skin of the chicken is pretty oily.

All I can say about Charo Chicken is that it’s for sure better than El Pollo Loco!
The chicken is moist, tender, and flavorful. I really liked their rice and cole slaw too! Got a whole chicken, two large sides and tortilla for a little less than $ 20…not too bad. Food was served relatively quick and the guy taking our order was really patient. I’d definitely have Charo Chicken again.
