This place was amazing! We are from out of town and were told by family that live here to try this place. So glad we did! We ordered the meal with 1 ½ lb lobster and a lb of mussels. It was some of the best lobster and mussels I have ever had. The atmosphere was very relaxing and I loved the fact that it was a bring your own drink kind of place. The food was fresh and the service was fantastic! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area! We will be back the next time we come to visit!

Excellent crab meat roll, the lobster rolls were outstanding! I had clam chowder & corn on the cob! We had a great lunch after coming from Acadia & Bar Harbor! We all recommend it highly! No frills just really fresh fish!!!

I’ve tried both Down East and the one across the street multiple times, and hands down to Down East. I absolutely love Down East. — price is better(and they don’t charge for butter! Trenton Bridge charges $ 1 for butter) — lobsters are cheaper and they slightly crack it before cooking, so that it is easier for you to crack. — clams are better and bigger and cheaper! — employees seem nicer — cute place — the bathroom is clean!!!

Meh. I really wanted to like it, but I really wasn’t impressed. Hoping elsewhere in Maine shows me a better lobster. Blueberry pie at the end was good, but I wish we had kept going.

The best lobster we had while visiting ME from a nice clean lobster tank. Informative friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. Sit upstairs on their rooftop deck for a great view. Price was fair and since you pick up at window and take care of your own tray you don’t have to tip as much as being waited on. Upcharge for butter like all the other lobster pounds in the area but their butter portion was the most generous.

Not the touristy attraction of neighbors; not sure why because the food was excellent!!! Lobster roll was the best I’ve had. Lobster dinner was a great value with mussels, slaw, roll and the best corn in the cob! View from upper deck was nice; we could block out the roadside noise. Lobster was a bit over cooked and tough or we would have given this five stars!!!

Food is good and it is very easy location to find right off the main road to bar harbor. The section is good and the food is good as well. Bathroom is completely disgusting without even a sink, and the man taking the orders did not seem happy to answer my questions about their weird pricing system. I thought we would try a different location than our normal place down the road but never coming back here again. Not worth the money for the terrible service.

Fresh and inexpensive but flavor/saltiness was missing. Good deal but cole slaw and bread were just ok, nothing to write home about. I liked the casual and breezy dining room and outdoor seating. Right on the main road, so it’s very convenient. C-Rays was much better. If I were in the area again, I’d definitely go to C-Rays.

Awesome divey lobster pound. Was right across from our hotel so wasn’t expecting much, but we were surprised. $ 14 for a lobster roll, chips, and coleslaw. The chips(generic) and coleslaw are forgettable. Delicious lobster rolls though! Great atmosphere for the restaurant type with upper deck.

One of the many stops on our downeast lobster roll tour. The lobster roll was respectable. Although it gets dinged for an inexplicable mound of paprika on top. If there was something in there other than lobster, mayo, and paprika, it was lost on me. Decent coleslaw and fries and cool environment because you can sit on the roof. Overall, it wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t get the lobster roll again.

We went to this place for some to-go seafood, weren’t terribly impressed but gave them another shot, which didn’t go well either. First time we got two pounds of steamers and a pound of gulf shrimp. Don’t think the steamers were cooked correctly. The shrimp were big, but the texture was a bit off and they had no seasoning. Second night we got a lobster roll, fish chowder(they were out of clam chowder), and a hot dog. Lobster roll was okay as long as we doused it with butter, but then we found a hair in it(probably because one of the girls who works there has a dog in the back that she’s always fooling with; noticed this on two nights, and saw her take it into the kitchen in her arms). The fish chowder was inedible… seriously had to poor it out. Best thing in the meal was the chips that came with the hotdog, probably because they didn’t touch them. I think this place is run and managed by a bunch of teenagers… They need some supervision.

GRITTY, GRITTY. Did I say gritty? Clams were so gritty they were almost inedible. If I wasn’t so hungry, I probably would not have eaten them. The lobster roll was good. Tender lobster, very lite dressing. My partner had clam chowder. It was very thin and more of a soup or stew than a «chowder». Full of clams and very briney, but was also gritty. Again inedible. Shrimp were large but very tough and way over cooked. $ 50 wasted. Will not eat here again. The only think that saved this rating was the lobster roll.

One of the cheapest places to eat lobster. They had lots of sizes to choose from and a lobster dinner for $ 15. Great place to buy fresh seafood as well.

This is an outstanding place for seafood. The prices are very good. Trenton charges 12.99 for clams which are 10.99 here! Seating inside or out.

Well priced quiet lobster pound on route 3 headed toward Acadia. No frills and quick service. Really liked my lobster, but wasn’t the best of my trip. The shellfish were bland and overcooked leaving much to be desired. Can’t go wrong here, but once I found better I knew I wouldn’t be back.

We only had the Lobster rolls, which were tasty, but lobster pounds seem to be no-frills. Two girls take your order and give you a poker chip with your order number. When they call the number you pick up the meal at a window much like the old Dairy King. Here’s your food! It was delicious though.

Found my slice of heaven!!! Fresh delicious lobster. Sweet corn(even though it’s not Jersey fresh). Open air dining. Prices are the best in the area. BYOB which is an added bonus.

Reasonably priced. Definitely a no frills place. Seemed more like a place the locals went. The chowder was delicious, it wasn’t as creamy as other places but still the best in bar harbor. We got lobster, shrimp, corn and chowder and everything was excellent.

At the time I visited(early June), Down East had the lowest lobster price of the three pounds in the area. The tanks are in plain sight, so you can choose which bug will meet its maker. They will steam and also bag-to-go for a few dollars, although if you do have them steamed, you will also have to pay Obama’s cut at 7% as then it becomes a prepared food item. So I bought a 1.30 pound lobster and a rock crab(peekytoe) that weighed a little under a pound, steamed to go, all for a paltry $ 13.50. I spoke to a Mainah at a bar later. Was told the price will drop even further as the season progresses. God damn.

Amazing lobster experience among the locals. Very low key and lobsters are steamed right as you order. Best lobsters we had in the Bar Harbor area! Plus gluten free clam chowder is AMAZING. Thank goodness for a sink to wash your hands out back.
