Price higher than sign advertised. No tax itemization on handwritten receipt that took forever. Room so dusty and filthy I cough gag barf. WIFI broken. Asked for cleaner room with WIFI. Filth disputed, picture and video of filth shown. Asked why I took pictures. Because I knew you’d play dumb and innocent. Taken back to room. Told impossible to clean dust Because old building. Scolded for eating after driving all day. More excuses. Tried to take back receipt before offering half refund. About to talk to Tucson police. Travel nightmare.

The room was small and basic, which is what I expected for the price. It advertises that it is the«cleanest budget motel.» It was fairly xlean, except for the bathroom floor. There was also an odor in the room — I propped the door open for awhile, to try to air it out. Also, a Continental breakfast(free) is advertised. I stay at many places that offer this. Hours are normally 6:00 — 9:00 am. We went to the office at 7:00, but it was not open. A sign by the night window said 7:30. At 7:50, we went back. Still not open, so I rang the night bell. The woman who had checked us in the afternoon before came out, looking disheveled. I asked about the breakfast. She said she would make coffee, and had tea and orange juice. I asked about cereal or fruit. She said that the drinks were all she had — that this was a Continental breakfast. I have had way better service at some cheap places. All I ask is that you do what you say you do.

If it was just about the room this place would have gotten another star, it’s a cheap motel, don’t get me wrong, but it’s clean, has a comfortable bed and all the fixtures work the way they should. Miguel, at the front desk, is the father of the owner(his son is the owner) and as a front man, Miguel is great. He showed me the room before I took it even tho he was alone at the time. He also gave me the low down on his ’58 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner, with working search light, but I digress. Cool vintage cars aside, this motel did have one problem which seems to plague a lot of the cheaper motels, bad wifi. When I say bad, I mean dial up speed bad. I work on the internet and therefore need a decent connection at night, but the Lazy 8 lived up to its name with internet speeds that rivaled those of the mid 90s. It is free wifi and in this case you most certainly get what you pay for. Keep in mind Tucson is a big(ish) city and as such has a plethora of crappy motels, Lazy 8 was NOT crappy, just the wifi was. I looked at a couple of other motels before I settled on Lazy 8, mainly due to Miguel at the front desk. I will stay here again.

This review is relative to the price. To be fair, I didn’t stay the night. I only had the room for four hours waiting for a flight. That said, my room was clean with a fridge, cold A/C, a TV, and free wifi. The gentleman at the front desk seemed to be the owner, and found me the cheapest rate, even though my reservation was slightly higher priced. I can’t give it five stars without spending the night. The property is very quiet during the day. I don’t know what it’s like at night. Yes, it’s old and reminiscent of the motor lodge in the movie«Cars». The rooms are good sized, and in a convenient location. For sheer value I’ll give it four stars.
