I’m from San Diego and this place has balls for calling it a Mexican food place, because it honestly comes no where close to the Mexican I’m used to

I order their sopa de tortilla and it came very cold. I thought soup was supposed to be served hot. Also it wasn’t even good. Disappointed in the quality of food. This is worse than college level eatery.

Mexican food for non-Mexicans… or at least for those who don’t know any better. The salsa had sugar in it to tame down the already unspectacular spiciness level. It set the tone of my meal — underwhelming. I am offended that they pass this as authentic Mexican food. A small redeeming feature was the peaceful ambient compared to the chaotic fast food area across the hall.

I ate at Sabor many times last year when I had classes on campus(before I went off campus for student teaching) and I always enjoyed it! It’s more unique than a lot of places in the Union and the service was always quick. I was obsessed with their carne asada burrito for awhile — I’d order it with cheese on the side since they don’t put any cheese in it, which made it the perfect(if high calorie) lunch meal. I also really like the way the restaurant is set up with windows all around the whole room! It was absolutely perfect the day it snowed at UA in 2013(?) to sit inside Sabor and watch the snow come down outside!

ordered fish tacos here. when they come, i had to look for the fish. that might be an exaggeration because there weren’t much else in the taco either. but honestly the size of the fish in there was about 1⁄5 the size(or smaller) you would get elsewhere. it was the size of a popcorn but it was not a popcorn fish. they literally worked to cut a bigger piece of fish into a smaller one to serve you. i don’t remember being angry about the portion of food served in other occasions, but this was robbery! i don’t know why they have to be so stingy — maybe they have to pay a lot more rent to the university to have their own closed-in area than to be just part of the food court? then what’s the problem of being just part of the food court? in any case, i certainly know there are better place to get my buck worth.

I think not. I went to school here many many(many!) years ago. Back then the Mexican café was probably the best thing in the student union. Cafeteria style… go down the line with your tray, get what you want, pay at the end. Well, they changed that, which is fine. But the food was NOT fine. They had limited selection. I went with the tacos. They were cold. The flavor was weak. The side of beans was warmer, but still mostly tasteless. This place is terrible. Not a worthy replacement of the old one. If you really want fast Mexican(sort of) food, go to the Chipotle outside the main gate. You’ll pay a little more, and it’s not really Mexican food, but it’s a lot better than Sabor.

I think one should take the other eateries in the student union into account when reviewing Sabor. If it was really so awful in comparison why is it always full? Yes, you can get a bigger burrito elsewhere and it’s probably worth your while to walk to Chipotle instead, but there is one thing on the menu that stalls my steps elsewhere every time: the taco salad! Lovingly cupped in a perfectly fried crispy bowl, you may feel free to dress it up with your choice of the four salsas, radishes, onions, jalapeños and lemons at the condiments bar or just leave it plain. There’s also a «bang» fountain here for jamaica, horchata, tamarindo etc.

It’s expensive Mexican food for not a lot of quantity or quality. I wouldn’t recommend it even for college students looking for a quick bite. There are better options on campus, seek them out.

Going to Sabor during a recent Chipotle craving was the worst idea ever. The black bean burrito was 90 percent bland rice with maybe 15 black beans thrown in. The«grilled fajita vegetables» were in huge pieces that were difficult to eat and they were basically raw. The guacamole I paid extra for was like a watered down avocado sauce that added nothing whatsoever. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this sad excuse for a burrito.

There are few good options on campus but this… this place wins«the worst of tucson» award.
