Horrible. One of the worst locations. I have bought numerous items at this store over the holiday season that I had to throw away because they were spoiled, rotten or just plain awful. I can believe you can’t walk in to «Cleveland’s» grocery store and buy a loaf of bread that doesn’t taste like styrofoam. Heinens central distribution model means anything you think is fresh is coming from their food factory in warrensville heights.

After reading reviews on this place, it seemed like the only thing wrong with the store were the customers themselves. I didn’t think much of it and decided to go based on the other reviews. At first glance the store is wonderful, the building itself is beautiful and the selection is pretty varied which is fantastic. Most of the produce looked great(some not so much) and there were tastings in multiple places! However, I can see the point about the people ruining the experience. Little things here and there such as, being glared at when tasting the cheeses(I tried one of each and bought my favorite one). Having my cart pushed aside unceremoniously by a customer without a word. The deli women and their general and blatant unhappiness(which this extended to basically all of the employees except the one cashier who checked me out – she was quite friendly). And lastly the customers themselves all looked like their common ancestor was Grumpy the dwarf from Snow White. So frankly, if you want to go there it’s great for prepared foods and general shopping, the prices are about what you’d figure for a city(EXCEPTTHEMEAT – WHICHISWAYTOOEXPENSIVE, 4 — 8oz flank steaks for over $ 44?!). Craziness. It gets 2 stars for it’s selection, but definitely 3 knocked off for the atmosphere.

Love this place. Great selection of products to include some hard to find items. The layout is great and it is very clean. Their meat and bakery departments are top notch. Pulling in is confusing if it is your first time. They Cary your stuff to your car, so the lot is designed to accommodated. A little on the pricy side, but not by much and they make you good about paying a premium.

Live very close to this store but usually don’t shop here because is very pricey. However, you get what you pay for in this case because the service is excellent and produce very fresh. Their prepared foods are also very good. They will also load your groceries into your car for you. But as I prefer to do this myself this fact is nog a selling point for me. Not allowed to take carts into the parking lot for this reason which is less than ideal if you have many small children with you– as I often do.

As a whole, I like the Heinen’s Stores, layout, and customer service. But this is clouded by the rudeness of many of the patrons/customers who shop at this store. On more than one occasion I have been bumped/hit by someone’s cart with no apology or «excuse me», I was looking at an item on the shelf and a customer bogarted in front of me slightly pushing me so he can put his item in his cart, but the most rude experience was a lady with a full cart saw me walking to the check out, I had 3 items in my basket and no more than 5 steps from the check out and she rushed in front of me. Suggestion to management, put signs in the store saying Please remember your manners, Be Nice, Be Kind. or better yet let it be known it is not acceptable to hit others with your carts, and respect personal space.

I really like this grocery store; it doesn’t carry a billion brands of the same type of product, but they have an EXCELLENT bakery and prepared foods section. Actually, this is a great place to pick up lunch… they have very good sushi, for example, and all baked goods are excellent. I especially like the asiago cheese bagel they make here. Also, there is a good cheese section and they carry a lot of the brands that Whole Foods does; marginally cheaper. I do not like the parking lot or cart pick-up thing, but this is good for some people and your car won’t get banged up by wayward carts. The parking lot is odd, so pay attention and make sure you go the correct way. The cashiers are really nice, and there seem to be plenty of lines open at all times.

I will NEVER shop here again. Rude customer service and made me feel uncomfortable. My husband and I went to this store for the first time to buy Flax Oil which can only be purchased at upscale grocery stores. We found our oil and decided to pick up a wine while we were there to go with the dinner we were making. We went to checkout and before the clerk even scanned our merchandise she was examining our two items(picking up each one and reading the label) and then examining us. Then she proceeded to scan them. She asked my husband for his ID and entered his birthday. Which obviously cleared because he is several years over the age requirement as am I. She then asked me for mine and I told her I did not have mine with me.(I just came from working out and did not have my purse with me) When we tried to explain how I did not have it with me she was extremely rude and unapologetic about the situation. I then said the law in Ohio only requires the person purchasing the alcohol to be ID, she shouted«it’s company policy». So are you telling me if I come in here with my young child, you won’t sell me wine because you have to check both of our ID’s??? My husband and I both walked out. What a ridiculous and useless policy. This store policy only punishes honest people. If someone was underage would they really go with the person buying them alcohol? I will be keeping my business with Whole Foods who actually knows what CUSTOMERSERVICE is and treats their customers with respect.

I honestly never thought I’d write a review of a grocery store, mainly because I don’t put a ton of thought into where I do my grocery shopping, but since moving to University Heights in 2009, I’ve had the opportunity to do my shopping at four different area grocery stores(Heinen’s, Giant Eagle, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe’s) and have finally sealed the deal and made Heinen’s my main place to shop. I like that Heinen’s is a regional chain with a good selection of both basic(read: cheap) and specialty(read: slightly pricier) options. Their produce department, bakery, and deli are always kept stocked with fresh products and the staff is friendly and efficient. So what actually inspired me to log into Unilocal and write about this particular Heinen’s? Earlier this year, I made a quick stop for some baking ingredients and the power went out for a split second, knocking all of their registers offline. The staff was cool, calm, and collected, working to rectify the problem as quickly as possible. While the registers were down, the manager arranged for staff to circulate throughout the crowd with free beverages and snacks(coffee, orange juice, cookies, cheese and crackers, etc. for everyone!) Chairs were brought out for people who were unable to stand for long periods of time and people with time sensitive purchases(birthday cakes and ice cream, for example) were allowed to write checks for their purchases at the customer service counter. I was very impressed with how the manager and staff handled this situation — people get wound up so easily these days, especially about minor inconveniences like having their grocery shopping held up, but the staff at Heinen’s did a great job making sure that everyone stayed in good spirits and that their IT issues were corrected as soon as possible. All in all, I think shoppers were only kept waiting for about ten minutes! I think that situations like this give you a chance to see what the management and employees of an organization are really like — I was refreshed to see how kindly the staff treated everyone and how efficiently they handled the curveball that was thrown at them.

My family and I have been doing our grocery shopping here for years. We absolutely love Heinen’s! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Some of them even greet us by name. In the few times that I have had an issue here, it has always been corrected in a prompt and reasonable manner. The products are always top notch and the store is easy to navigate through. The store is clean and was also remodeled a few years ago. So, you may be asking… why did I knock off a star? Well, the parking lot is very confusing and there are always clueless, impatient, and rude customers driving down the wrong aisle and cutting you off. Although, they sometimes have a police officer on hand to direct traffic, so that’s a plus. I have found that Heinen’s is more personalized and friendly than other grocery stores I have been to. I highly recommend shopping here!

This Heinen’s is definitely the busiest of this local chain. Nevertheless, the staff is always friendly and knowledgable, the lines move quickly and the food is excellent. Of particular note is the wine section that’s as pleasing for the novice as it is for the experienced palate. If you can’t find what you want, there’s someone around to ask. Also of note is the variety of unique and hard-to-find items. In fact, that’s really their specialty. If a patron is trying to find that one item to go in grandma’s special recipe from the old country or a new recipe found in the New York Times, this is the place to go. The selection of seafood, produce and meat is superb throughout the chain whether one goes to this store or any of the others. However, it’s important to remember that one gets what one pays for. There are less expensive grocers but there is none better.

I generally like Heinen’s, but not this one. It’s not so much the employees, or the store, but the other shoppers. This was my first experience where people intentionally blocked the aisle with their shopping cart, and there is no attempt to accomodate others. Even at the Giant Eagle down the road you will find people at least move when they realize you are attempting to look at the same items. Not here! There is a definite me-first vibe that is just… unsettling.

One of the better supermarkets in Cleveland. Heinen’s has a lot of top-end stuff, and a fantastic wine selection with over 75 bottles priced under $ 10. They also feature monthly wine-tastings. If you are looking for a good lunch, their paninis and other sandwiches are good, as well. Pre-made personal desserts are better here than at most other supermarket chains you will find.
