My mother-​in-​law was admitted after a surgery for rehab. She was in the facility fo about 10 hours before being taken to the hospital for a fib and breathing issues. During the time she was there she was treated harshly. Medications that were essential to her health were not administered. I would Not send my family member to this place, ever!

This is the most amazing place, if you need care or Rehab this is the place to be.
It’s clean, great people, Great atmosphere.

A very clean and new place. But it goes downhill from there. Imagine a Sunday afternoon. Most residents are in their rooms. Most staff are at the nurses station. A patient whose goal is to go home asap, is brought a minimal and plain lunch. No one questions it. His wife brings in a healthy subway sandwich which he wolfed down. The facility offers him cut bananas, all brown, milk, and the type of ensure that gives him gas. Oh yes, and a piece of bread. He’s been given a pain pill so wants to sleep. No weekend pt to work with him and no workable Internet to stimulate his mind. How can he reach his goal of going home?

I would give this place a zero if I could, but since I have to give at least one, I will say that it’s for the people who work in activities and a couple of CNAs. They were super sweet and fun. Tiffany and Susan were my favorite CNAs and were very kind. Andy was also a favorite but he since left this facility.
I’m not sure how to even go about listing all of the things wrong with this place because there are so many incidents that we had that were upsetting and just unacceptable.
1. In the summer my grandfather had a CNA shove his wheelchair aggressively out of the bathroom and banging his hand into the counter. Luckily my mom showed up and asked «What happened?!» the CNA tried to blame it on my grandpa but as she left to go get the nurse because his hand was gushing blood (only after my mom told her to), my grandpa told my mom that she had shoved his wheelchair and then his hand carelessly into the counter. It would be one thing if she had not tried to blame it on an old man who she was probably hoping he was senile, but this pissed us off. What happens to people here who don’t have a family member to stand up for them?
2. After this incident his hand was absolutely disgusting for over a month. It was excreting liquids and was not healing. They kept bandaging it up and suffocating it and my grandpa finally had had enough and ripped the bandage off and refused to get another one on and it started to heal up then. A wound specialist came FINALLY after weeks and cleaned up the wound. What is the point of having RNs if they do basically nothing for the patients here but slap a bandage on and have a «wound specialist» come in?
3. The entire time he was here for two months they failed to realize that he had congenital heart failure. It was only until we had a nurse come to our home that she said he needed to get help for it immediately. We had no idea. Thank god for that woman. We took him to the hospital and they treated him there. No thanks to ManorCare.
4. Often times when my grandpa and other patients need help they’re left to wait for too long. If they have to go to the bathroom, they’re left to wait until it’s too late and they soil themselves, which makes the CNAs act irritably towards the patient despite it being their fault for not being attentive.
5. When my grandpa became so weak that he could not even sit up to eat, they came in and flopped his food tray on the table and left. He sat there with his food a few feet away from him without being able to eat it. This was absolutely cruel and not acceptable.
6. When my mom had a question for the RN, I believe her name was Shirley or something, I have no idea because I’m trying to block this entire period of my life out due to the terrible treatment. Anyways, when my mom had a question for this woman, she threw up her hands and rolled her eyes at my mom. Are you really that miserable in your life that you have to be so rude to someone whose father is dying in your disgusting facility? It is scary and people have questions. Sorry you have to look up from your game of solitaire for a moment to actually do some work.
7. My grandfather needed a catheter placed because he could no longer easily get up to go to the bathroom and needed help. This was late November. They took him to get one placed at Legacy down the street. Alright, then two weeks later they decide they want to take him to get it replaced. My mom argued because he was on comfort measures ONLY. They said it had to be replaced once a month, yet it had only been two weeks. They ended up taking him and it was placed incorrectly or something because he bled profusely from the area to the point where they were changing his bedding multiple times a day. He passed away a few days later.
8. They decided to take him to the emergency room without asking my mother, who was the person to get permission from for him. Once again, he was on comfort measures only. They took him there because he had blood in his urine. My mom was infuriated when she found this out because he has had blood in his urine for YEARS and the ENTIRE time he had been there. This was nothing new and they took him there in a tiny little robe in early December. Really now?
9. The morning he passed away in this place, he was yelling «Ladies! Ladies!» and then stopped. The woman went in to check on him and he had passed. I think of this and I’m absolutely disgusted, horrified, and upset. He passed away alone and yelling for someone who wasn’t going to come and help him. Why this woman decided to share that with us, I have no idea, because it’s sickening.
I’ll stop here. They need to work on this facility. I’m going to be filing a neglect complaint because I cannot live with myself thinking about other patients going through this, especially if they have no family there to help stick up for them.
They put more effort into appearances than actual quality. Let’s not even talk about the cost if you cease to be covered.

NOT recommended. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. The front desk was not helpful, the nurses station was unhelpful, they lost my Mother in law for a short while. The PT and the occupational therapist did NOTHING in the month my mother in law was there except abuse the system and bill for anything they could think of. When we discharged my Mother in law we received NO report of activity of progress, I had to hunt the PT down to see if she had any sort of report for me and she did not! unreal!!.

This place is TERRIBLE! do not let your family come here! If you ask for help the worse you will get treated. I gave it a 1 star only because the place is newer and looks nice.

My Grandma was here and they did a terrible job! In the 9 days she was there she never had her teeth brushed by the staff and they never bathed her. It would take over 35 minutes if you rang the bell and she would alway have to pee or poop herself because know one would show up. They were rough with her, not brutally, but just rough and man handled her with no care of the pain they were causing her. They never gave her meds on time, The administrators were rude. The food was good.

I side with most of the other reviewers THIS IS A HORRIBLE PLACE! Not a place I would recommend to put your loved ones! Very poorly run facility!

What a horrid place. My grandfather went downhill fast at this place. He got c-​diff AND MRSA while there and WAS NOT CARED FOR!!! He would buzz for them over and over and no one would come. He couldn’t walk so he rolled himself out of the bed, fell to the floor and had to try to crawl to the bathroom. He had to sit in his feces quite often.
We went to visit one day and there were two rooms with people yelling «Help! Help!» At the nurses station and the end of the hall were people standing around with no intention to care for these people.
The way they run this place is inhumane.
There is NOTHING positive I can say about this place.

I had a family member at this facility for a couple of weeks to recover from surgery. I realize that these types of places have a tough job taking care of a variety of people. These are my experiences and observations.
1. Calling the ²⁴⁄₇ number in the evening got me no answer. Its rang and rang, but no one ever picked up. You must call at least 6 different numbers and be very persistent to ensure that you can check in on a family member. I was told by the person that eventually answered one night not to call between 7 AM and 9 AM or 7 PM and 9 PM. Those are busy times and no one can answer the phones. This is contrary to what I was told during my initial tour and was given the ²⁴⁄₇ number. Your family member has a phone in their room, but if they are sleeping/​heavily medicated you need to be able to reach someone and check in.
2. Telling a nurse at the desk that your family member needs a PRN med does not necessarily get passed along to the attending nurse. You must be prepared to follow up to ensure your family member is given meds they need. In my case, pain meds were needed and they were not given one evening as requested.
3. If your family member has restrictions, you can not be assured that they are passed along to the CNAs. We avoided disaster and I was told by the attending CNA that they were not informed by the previous CNA of the restrictions. Mind you, this was a CNA assigned to care for my family member. I would suggest if your family member has recently had surgery on their arm and they can’t be pulled up by that arm, you write that on a sign and post it above the bed. Don’t be afraid to post any restrictions so they are very clear and visible.
4. Food orders are taken, but are not routinely followed by the kitchen staff. You end up with whatever they decide to give you. It’s very hectic when the CNAs are handing out the trays, so you just take what you get. It’s a bummer because they take very detailed orders and set your expectations pretty high that your meal will be tailored to your needs.
5. There is one RN assigned to a whole bunch of patients. They seem to focus on meds and urgent issues. The CNAs handle everything else.
6. You can’t be assured of the same PT or OT person each day. But, our experience with all the therapists was very good. They were diligent about making sure they worked with us on a daily basis.
7. The process to take your family member to a Dr. appt. is well organized and they give you the appropriate paperwork/​info to take along.
I have helped family members in variety of care facilities. I realize that these are tough jobs. But, the framework that the facility uses to manage their care must be top notch. ManorCare has it’s pluses and minuses. No matter where you take a family member, just know that someone must be their advocate to ensure they are safe and well cared for.
I think a 3 star «A-​OK» reasonably represents my experience.

My father in law went to ManorCare for rehab following treatment for leukemia at the hospital. He enjoyed being there very much and we enjoyed visiting him there. Unfortunately, his disease took a sudden turn for the worse and he ended up needing the equivalent of hospice care within the facility, which entailed much more attention than the average patient would need. The staff were incredibly empathetic and supportive, going out of their way to make sure that both my father in law and my family had all of the support and communication needed to help us through what was an incredibly stressful and emotional time. We spent a lot of time there in the last few weeks of his life and never encountered a staff member who wasn’t willing to do whatever was needed to ease the difficulty of our situation.
