I was looking for something else nearby my office and when I searched Unilocal, this place came up. I am an avid user of firearms and thought it was pretty odd that there was a store so close to my office that I did not know about… turns out they havent been open too long(In this location, anyway. I talked to a friend later and he thinks they just moved into this neighborhood from a different location). It was explained to me that this is actually two businesses, sharing space(and therefore, customers). There is indeed a large half-wall built into the store separating the two sides… One is for actual firearms purchases and the other side is general supply and accessories sales(ammo, EZ Reloaders, mags, cleaning supplies, etc). It was a Friday evening when I popped in with my daughter on our way to dinner close by. The ammo selection was varied, and they had all the standard and most popular brands and calibers, of course(No .22, of course). The guy behind the counter was friendly, and fairly knowledgeable. I think my daughter(she is 13) hung him up a couple times when she somewhat corrected him, and the fact that she answered his questions to me with the right answer and was clearly educated in firearms and ammunition differences). I had jjst stocked up on everything I needed a few days prior to finding this little place so I didnt purchase anything on this evening, but in looking over their selection and pricing it is definitely an option in the future for my needs. The other side of the store, for firearms purchases, was not open at the time I was there. I was told that they were not currently selling any firearms until something was worked out with an IRS situation on the guy who actually held the FFL license there. Interesting…(FYI to the store personnel: Next time just say they have taken a break from sales at this time because telling me that it was an IRS issue just makes me suspicious and unlikely to purchase a firearm from you in the future).

I attended the Active Shooter Awareness Seminar last Thursday evening. It was very informative and fact based! It’s refreshing to be able to explore such an important topic without the hype and political slant spewed by the news media and polititians. The presentation was thought provoking and gave me realistic advice on how to prepare myself for a potential encounter with an armed assailant. The presenter, Larry Good is obviously well read and trained! This is the best $ 10 I’ve spent in quite some time. I look forward to attending other seminars and classes put on by SW Washington Surplus! Thank you to Larry and his professional staff!

I was extremely impressed with the way I was treated as a know-nothing first time buyer. After shopping around several stores, it was an easy decision to buy my gun here. I signed up for the Basic Pistol course which I completed yesterday. I would highly recommend it for anyone fairly new to the sport. I can’t remember the last time I learned so much in one day or had so much fun doing it. I’ll be looking for more classes that Larry offers, and will definitely make future purchases at Southwest WA Surplus. I just like the feel of the place and the passion they seem to have for the sport.

I am a new firearm owner with exactly zero experience. The information I have taken away from this class is invaluable. Firearm anatomy, the inner workings of firing a gun, how to maintain the highest level of safety, and the care & keeping of my firearm. I gained a level of confidence in handling my gun that I didn’t have before and surely wouldn’t have without this class. Larry, our instructor, was approachable, personable, and knows how to correct with out criticism – a skill not everyone has. My expectations were high and they were exceeded. To be taught by someone who genuinely cares about your success and safety is the best experience. Let’s put it this way: when you’re in the middle of a class and you start thinking about what other classes you can take with the instructor, you know you’ve made a good decision. In addition to the great classes they offer, the store is full of friendly and knowledgeable staff. I’m so glad I found them! I fully intend to continue doing business with Southwest Washington Surplus and Larry for a long time. Thanks for everything!

My boyfriend and I took a concealed carry class here. Without knowing what to expect, I would say we both came away very impressed with the experience. This class is a primer — it covers a lot of basics but with the exception of people who are already very comfortable with gun handling, it’s best to think of it as a «concept» class. There is no range time(so if the thought of that makes you nervous, sign right up) but covers extremely critical aspects of how to think about carrying. Our instructor was Larry, who had credentials that made us take him VERY seriously, but whatever stereotypes you might come up with on your way to class, leave them at the door. He showed incredible sensitivity and breadth of knowledge about the experience of trauma and concerns specific to women. I don’t know if everyone in the class had the same sense, but he seemed to be able to gauge each participant individually. The atmosphere of the classroom is relaxed(expect humor, a little audience participation, and if you’re lucky, the wife and dogs to swing by to say hi!), but the subject matter is still delivered clearly, emphasizing what you’ll need to take away from the experience. This class will *start* you on your way — you can get your permits, and have your questions answered so you will know where and how to develop your handling skills. Additionally, you will be able to understand the legal yes/nos and where to go for a reminder. Maybe most importantly, it will help you think about your purpose and personal readiness for carrying. We would DEFINITELY go back for more classes. I’d love to see a class developed for women, to address specific concerns around options for how to carry, and maybe self-defense basics. Additionally, we both felt like a «Know Your Rights» class would be a very helpful addendum.

I have purchased many of my firearms and most of my Ammunition from Southwest Washington Surplus, always dealing with Steve and Dave who has treated me, my wife and grandson with the greatest of respect and honesty. They have answered my questions in a simple straightforward manner. I would and have referred my friends, family and even my own customers to them and personally, since I know they will receive a level of customer service that is missing in most firearms and ammo stores. I will continue making them my go to people for both arms and ammo. Way to get the job done. Now when is that .22 coming in?

I took the RSO with Larry this past weekend and the class was beyond what I expected. I am on my way to getting my NRA instructor credentials and Larry was by far my favorite instructor I have taken with any of my courses. It was a bit of a drive as I came from Bothell, Washington but 100% worth it. He catered to every single student that was in the class and made you feel like you belonged in the class and not as a number or object. We were all required to present and critique each other which was my favorite portion of the instructional. There is a lot of material that is covered in the class and it does take majority of the day but completely worth it whether your familiar with firearms or just getting into it. I will be coming down again and taking additional courses from Larry because the atmosphere was perfect.

I took the Range Safety Officer course on Saturday. The course was advertised to be a nine hour course. My first thoughts were how boring this would be. In reality, it was the opposite. At our first break I couldn’t realize we were already three hours into it. Larry did an excellent job teaching this important subject. The students were constantly involved and the information in the materials was expertly transferred to the students.

It’s what it is as a Military Surplus Store. Found prices somewhat high and it had very few true real deals. I know that Real Military Items are expensive and hard to get. They need to price some things better. As for there Gun Shop Area I liked the Sales Person and was treated good. Check them out and support local Vancouver Businesses!

These guys are great. I have purchased one firearm from them and used their FFL services twice. They are a friendly bunch of guys who clearly give off the old casual BS mode veteran vibe. Never feel hurried when I am in there you can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do. These are the types of guys we need to keep in business.

Great bunch of folks, who are more than willing to share their knowledge and opinions. I just took the NRA Range Safety Officer class, and was very happy with the information, as well as the intelligence and confidence of the instructor. I have attended various instructor led classes, which were more like«social gatherings in ill-prepared settings». SW Wash Surplus has a dedicated training room, AV equipment, experienced instructors who know how to speak to an audience, and facilities to provide for an enjoyable and informative class. I look forward to taking more classes at this facility.
