I checked for phở restaurants near Little Creek base, and immediately chose this one based on: 1. name isn’t some«Phở #»; 2. High ratings! To say my expectations were very high, is an understatement. I was expecting some next-level phở in the Hampton Roads area. We came in for lunch, interior is nicely lit, ample amount of seating. The right hand of the restaurant has the smaller tables, while the left is for larger groups. Our party of 2 chose to sit on the left(not as many people). We had to take some time looking over the menu and deciding on what to get, I believe the lady came over ~2 times after a few minutes to ask us if we were ready. Had a tendency to loiter around our table. After I explained that we needed more time, she ROLLED her eyes and left. We were finally ready to order, and I had the Pork and egg roll dry vermicelli noodles. I always tend to get this dish(except chicken), everywhere else. When it came out, I was a bit surprised to see so little meat in the dish. It was chopped very finely and most of it wasn’t meat, it was more like the fat cracklings you get after cooking pork(though it did have a lot of flavor). The egg roll was okay, a bit dry and not a lot of flavor. The dish was more veggies than either noodles or pork meat. Not sure, probably won’t be back, if there are other phở places near Little Creek.

The service wasn’t great and the food wasn’t good. Also, I think there may be a language barrier that prevents you from getting exactly what you ordered… I don’t think I’ll go back, there are a few good Phở places in the Hampton Roads are that I’d rather go to…

I love a good bahn mi sandwich; so, when I saw this place near where I am staying with 4.5 stars it was a no brainer for lunch. First the good: the baguette is indeed amazing, and overall the flavor of the sandwich was very good. So why the one star? Well, as the old lady used to say in the Wendy’s commercials way back when(yes, I know I’m dating myself as all the millennial foodies out there are scratching their heads)…“Where’s the meat???“ Seriously. I ordered the B7 rib eye, and like any good Unilocaler I of course ogled over the photos first. The photos that showed real pieces of some serious meat piled on to the bahn mis. Mine was NOTHING like that. The meat was just that — nothing: little bits of meat that could have been anything… maybe the little scraps that stuck to the pan and were scraped off to make one more sandwich, and then smeared on to the sandwich. The crazy thing is I even asked Miss S which she thought was better today — the pork or the rib eye, and she told me the rib eye. I can’t imagine what the pork must have been like then… maybe a vegetarian bbq pork bahn mi?

We came here as a family for a late lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. My husband is very adventurous eater but the rest of us aren’t quite as willing to try new things. When two of the first ingredients I saw were head cheese and beef tendons I got very worried, but as I continued reading I saw there were plenty of choices for the more Squeamish or picky eaters in our group. My 10 year old loved his soup and I loved my phở. Surprisingly enough my 5 year old also loved my phở and his brothers chicken broth based egg noodle soup, I don’t remember the name of his but it was also very tasty. My husband had a very spicy seafood soup that while too spicy for the rest of us, still had a lot of flavor. The prices were very reasonable and with We will definitely be back!

Great sandwich on fresh baguette. Spring rolls were super fresh. Don forget to order iced coffee early, it takes a couple of minutes to brew. Perfect!

Highly recommend for those seeking excellent phở. Started with spring and egg rolls, both were awesome. I had a vietnamese coffee and my husband got fresh OJ, both were made fresh. We ordered a spicy seafood and spicy beef phở; both definitely delivered on taste and heat. Very filling, we both took home leftovers. The owner brought out hot jasmine tea and it was wonderful way to finish. Great service at a spotlessly clean location.

The food was served promptly in this bright and clean restaurant with a simple décor. The $ 9.5 Mi Hai San Seafood combo egg noodle in chicken broth with schrimp, calamari, fillet of fish, and crabsticks was decent. The broth was flavorful. The size portion was ok. The crabsticks had a weird texture. The shrimps weren’t deveined. The $ 3.5 Boba Thai tea was interesting with the texture of the boba balls. This drink had the right amount of sweetness. There were some vegetarian offerings on the menu with no MSGs, eggs, etc. The restrooms were clean with no changing table for babies. Neither free wifi internet nor TV were available. You will pay at the counter. It was easy and free to park.

If you would like an authentic and cheap soup, I would kindly suggest instead to go to the restaurant«Saigon 1» in Virginia Beach. To provide some context, I am of Vietnamese descent. I grew up on this type of cuisine. The 2⁄5 rating was specifically for the subpar quality and taste of the soup. I will not come back here. Thus, a 3⁄5 «Ah ok”/average rating would not be appropriate. The $ 9.5 Mi Hai San Seafood combo egg noodle in chicken broth with schrimp, calamari, fillet of fish, and crab sticks was decent. I came here hoping to find some good Vietnamese food. It’s a lot harder to find out here on the east coast(Californians are spoiled). Getting good phở is pretty easy, great phở is hard to come by on ether coast. What’s really hard to find is a place that makes even decent banh xeo(vietnamese crêpe/pan cake) if you can find a place that serves it at all. Anyway, that’s what I came here for and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The banh xeo was almost perfect. WARNING: if you don’t know how to eat it properly, it will be messy and bland. I’m sure they will advise you on how to eat it as they did for me which is nice. Even if I already was a banh xeo eating champ. I’ll be back for more, I need to try a few more items. Ps the hot tea and spring rolls were outstanding.

I had the lemongrass chicken banh mi after hearing my mom and friend rave about it(They’ve never had a traditional banh mi lol). It was my first time ever eating a chicken banh mi, and I was not disappointed. They don’t use a baguette here, so the bread was softer than that of a traditional banh mi, which some people won’t like, but I’m not a big fan of crunch, so I didn’t mind it. All in all, I would go here again if I was in the Virginia Beach area and had a Vietnamese food craving. P. S. I didn’t order the banh bao(meat bun) here, but as I was paying, I saw the owner taking one out of a plastic bag for another customer, so the banh bao here is definitely not made fresh!(I’d still order it any ways).

For a person that has lived in many different countries and has enjoyed a vast array of cuisines I am embarrassed to say that this was my first ever Vietnamese experience at Miss Saigon. When we lived in OV we definitely went by for a Phở and sandwich every week now we drop by when we get a chance and we know the broth is freshly made(VERY important). I love all of their Phở soups, I finish the entire bowl every time even though I was told by the owners son, Voo, that in Vietnam they only eat was in the soup and not the liquid. The sandwiches are also the bomb here! The bread is exactly the type I love crunchy on the outside and nice and spongy in the inside like a loaf of Greek«xhoriatiki» bread basically. The spices are on point, a lot of fresh vegetables and herbs which I really like to use when I cook at home myself. This is a family owned and run restaurant that uses traditional recipes from their village back in Vietnam so it is definitely a very authentic experience. I have had plenty of Phở in other restaurants since my first time here but no one can live up to the freshness and flavour at Miss Saigon. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the broth is not freshly made everyday so if I feel like really having it and it’s already 3 – 4 days old I just won’t.

Awesome, the duck phở was on point and very flavorful. I have yet to try the sandwiches but I will soon. I can sense coming back to this place often. I just hope a rainy day approaches so I can come indulge in some Duck phở again.

If you’re looking for an authentic Vietnamese restaurant with excellent customer service, and at a great price, look no further. Seriously, I just got back from Vietnam and felt that Miss Saigon’s food was totally on par. I have been coming here for more than a year and the food has progressively elevated. The volume, the presentation, and the taste are grade A. My fiancée and I get separate dishes and we are always picking at each others food because the variety is so enjoyable here. Highly recommend the Phở beef(on the side) and the Bun with grilled pork. The egg rolls are, personally, my favorite in Virginia Beach. The family owned atmosphere cannot be emphasized enough. This is a huge reason I keep coming back. The waiter is polite, engaging, and accommodating to all his guests. The place is spick and span. And to give you an idea of how personal they get, they know my order by memory, down to the detail of how I prefer it.

I stopped in here for lunch recently to take a break from my Phở 79 habit and with high hopes of ramping up my original three-star rating to a higher one. Unfortunately, and to much disappointment, my rating went in the opposite direction. It saddens me to write this follow-up review. This is a family run restaurant whose members are so very nice and gracious. Service is always friendly and accommodating. But with respect to what I ate that day, I have to be honest and stick to the facts. To begin, I ordered their Spring Rolls(Menu Item A-1) and their Phở Ga(Menu Item P-4). Their Spring Rolls themselves were pleasant enough, tender and flavorful, but not as memorable as they were during my previous visits. My main disappointment was with the peanut sauce, which was excessively thick and lacking in the delicacy of flavor and texture I enjoyed before. It tasted too much like melted peanut butter and nothing else. If any hoisin sauce was blended in, I was unable to detect it. My original review noted that only one size bowl of their Phở soups is available, which is their large size. This still happens to be the case. I prefer a smaller size serving, but they continue to serve their Phở in their one size only large bowl. The broth to my Phở Ga was extremely bland and weak in flavor. My original review had noted that the broths I tasted during my previous visits were also on the weak side. This time the weakness of their broth was more noticeable than before, once again delivering that«hot water» taste mentioned in my original review. In addition, the volume of the broth overwhelmed that of both the noodles and the chicken, resulting in a composition that was poorly and disproportionally out of balance. I had to consume too much of the broth before reaching the noodles and the chicken. There was a very scant presence of onions and scallions, which I enjoy in greater quantities with a bowl of Phở Ga. In their place were a conspicuous number of carrot slices floating about, which did not agree with me. For whatever reason, they left a lingering and unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth afterwards. Finally, my dish of condiments included only of two tiny single slices of jalapeño peppers. There were no bean sprouts and no basil leaves. Absolutely none. They also appeared to be understaffed that day. There was a row of tables that was not cleared off, remaining uncleaned, until the very end of my meal. This was an unpleasant eyesore. My server was busy enough, serving other customers diligently, but he could have used some help. Maybe I’ve been making the wrong selections when coming here. During a future visit, and I do promise to make one, maybe I will order one of their Bahn Mi sandwiches I’ve heard so much rave about or their Banh Xeo Vietnamese Pancake. There is also a new Duck Noodle Soup on their menu I would like to try. I like to support small family restaurants whenever possible. In the meantime, and with a spirit of personal support, I advise them strongly to please do whatever they can to improve the quality of the broths for their Phở and add a few more condiments to go with it.

Here is everything you need to know: 1. The place is impeccably clean. Like hospital grade clean. Like you can see your reflection in the floors. 2. The staff is absolutely some of the most friendly people you will ever interact with. They go out of their way to be courteous and operate with a typical Vietnamese efficiency that is perhaps only rivaled by the Swiss. 3. THISISTHEIMPORTANTONE. The food is INCREDIBLE! The(insert menu item here) is amazing. I have to say this is some of the freshest food you can get in Hampton Roads. All of this together makes for one of the best dining experiences I have had in HR. I go here over«fancier» or other restaurants all the time because it is simply put, a well done operation. I would recommend Miss Saigon restaurant whole heartedly every time.

Dear Miss Saigon Sandwiches & Noodles(Miss S): I’ve visited you twice now –once eating in and once to go– and I’ve ordered the same thing both times: B8 Bánh Mì Heo Nuong(grilled pork). You served me with a friendly smile and brought my food quickly. You were my first, Miss S! I was so excited to try Bánh Mì after hearing about it day-after-day on Unilocal.I was worried it would be huge a letdown, but oh no – it was the opposite. That gorgeous, lightly toasted baguette spread with pâté, pickled carrots, fresh cucumber, jalapeños, cilantro, warm seasoned grilled pork… OMG! Every time I take a bite of that titillating sandwich, it makes me cry in ecstasy. I think I’m in love, Miss S. Would you move closer to my house? I miss you terribly when I start to get that itch. Why do I have to drive all the way to Virginia Beach in order to satisfy that craving? But, you know I will. I would do it just to see you and that exquisite B8. Fondly, Carissa

So all the pics looked like this place was going to be super yummy, and dont get me wrong it wasnt that it wasnt good, just I have had better. Maybe I should have had one of the sandwiches which are alittle different than other places. I went with the lemongrass chicken cause I love lemongrass anything and it was good. I also tried the cured pork spring rolls which were fantastic and I did prefer their fish sauce over other fish sauce I have tried. The service was great, the young man serving us was super polite and attentive. I will go back and try other things, sandwiches are next!

We ordered and paid for 2 Cha lua sandwiches, 2 grilled pork sandwiches, 1 with egg and everything else in it sandwich, the toddy Palm with yam ice cream, B4 banana dessert thing that’s green. What we received was 3 cha lua sandwiches and 2 pork sandwiches. 1 ice cream and the wrong banana dessert. Basically I over paid because these sandwiches not worth the same as the $ 9 egg sandwich. Food we did receive was very tasty but I don’t think I’d make the effort to go again and order carry out. I wouldn’t know if something was wrong until I get home. Also, I feel that it was really pricey for sandwiches. Maybe I’m just used to Chicago’s prices for sandwiches.

Hubby wanted some Vietnamese food for lunch before we headed back to Whole Foods and the ferry back to Cape May so we stopped by this restaurant. The space is clean and bright with 7 tables(3 larger tables and 4 — 4 tops). The restaurant got packed after we sat down but service did not suffer. Staff is friendly and service was good. For an appetizer, we ordered the grilled cured pork spring roll. Both the pork and dipping sauce(nuoc mam Cham aka fish sauce) were tasty. The items rolled along with the pork and vermicelli weren’t traditional though(ice berg lettuce and pickled carrots/daikon). For our entrees, I initially wanted the roasted duck noodle soup, but they were out of roasted duck. It was only 11:30am. Interesting. So I opted for the duck stew noodle soup instead. The duck was tender, noodles had a good chew, and veggies cooked just right. It was quite flavorful and burn your tongue off piping hot which was great! I’ve never been to any asian noodle place where they served piping hot broth/soup. This is a plus in our book! Hubby ordered Bun Bo Hue(spicy beef noodle soup) which he thought was alright. It definitely wasn’t traditional bun Bo hue. It wasn’t the right cuts of meat, type of noodles or broth. It was basically Phở broth mixed with fermented shrimp paste, lemongrass and chili sauce. This noodle dish usually comes with shredded cabbage and or bean sprouts and it didn’t come with either one. The server said that they ran out of bean sprouts. Really? At 12pm on a Friday? Okay. The only positive about this dish was the raging hot broth. For dessert, the toddy Palm and purple yam ice cream caught my eye so I had to have it. This ice cream did not disappoint. Tasty and light. Yum. We also ordered 2 banh mi thit nguoi sandwiches togo for our ferry ride later. Will definitely post pics and comment on that later. Overall, I would probably just come back for the ice cream, if even that. There are tons of Vietnamese restaurants around town so I will be checking out those places before trying this place for a second time. This was also the most expensive vietnamese meal we’ve ever had. Update: we ate our banh mi’s on the ferry ride back to Cape May. The sandwiches were delicious. I love the richness of the pâté and the crunchy cartilage head cheese. After looking over our receipt, they charged us for the special(dac biet) which is more expensive than the cold cuts(thit nguoi). Smh. Make sure you check the bill before you pay!

I just got done eating the bun bo hue noodle soup. It’s really flavorful, kinda spicy, and delicious. I’m surprised that I finally found a good phở place here in virginia beach. I’m from the west coast btw. The price here is more than I am used to but I’m satisfied with the authentic food served here. However, the spring rolls are a disappointment because they are very small compared to west coast standards(1 small piece of meat, 1 shrimp cut in half, 1 soft not crunchy piece of lettuce with noodles wrapped up in soft rice paper)): Not fulfilling and I will only order it again if I can’t help myself. Update: they added more noodles in the spring rolls. The grilled pork banh mi Sandwhich is good. The bun bo hue noodles is good as usual. I think they added too much msg in it tho:

I’ve been craving some good Vietnamese food since Phở Hung closed over the holidays, and from what I’ve been seeing from other Unilocalers they’ve been talking about this spot. I finally got a chance to try it out for myself and I now I’m a happy fan. First thing’s first, this place is nice — very nice. Not to knock Phở Hung and Jimmy but that spot was a dump. Albeit, that building already existed when Jimmy opened Phở Hung there, but it was a dingy spot. I didn’t mind it because they kept it as clean as possible and they put out some awesome food. Van, the owner of Miss Saigon, put up a very nice spot that is seemingly clean in every corner. I can never complain about that and that just means I can sit back and relax. I got a vermicelli dish with egg rolls and pork, I believe. It was delicious and was prepared fairly quickly. To be fair when I came in there were no other customers but it’s still nice to get your order quickly. But in regards to the food, it was delicious. I love a good rice vermicelli dish and this didn’t disappoint. Also, as a standard order I did have the spring rolls. It was fantastic. As for the staff, they are as nice as the building they’re in. They’re so nice that Vann’s son is on point when it comes to service. There was another Unilocaler who talked about Vann’s son in his review and I’m proud to back up his assertion that many adults out there could learn a thing or two from him. I didn’t actually see Vann’s son the first time out because I went during school hours but I took my parents here the following week and he was up and at ‘em. He rocked a shirt and tie, was very polite and even coached my mom on how to eat the dish she ordered. He follows after his dad because he, too, is very polite, is great at conversation and tutored me on how to eat my rice vermicelli dish. And just to make me feel old and dumb, Vann’s son is only eleven and he can speak both English and Vietnamese. English is actually his second languge… yeesh, haha. I’ve been here twice in a week and I have nothing but good things to say about this establishment. My search for a new Vietnamese spot is now complete, and if they keep up the outstanding food quality with the top-notch service then they’ll be around for awhile… and I’ll be there enjoying my vermicelli. I never knew Vietnamese food could taste so good. I have now tried this newer local restaurant a few times and have enjoyed several scrumptious dishes. This place has developed a great following in it’s six months, or so since they opened which is a testament to the hard working owners who have been very pleasant on each occasion I dined in. Every visit I was quickly met with a smile from the owner. Today was no different and he remembered me from just coming in a few days ago with my wife and was disappointed she could not join me which was very sweet. My delicious appetizer of Spring Rolls came out quickly with my drink. I again ordered the Bahn Mi Ribeye since it really hit the spot, but I did order it less the spicy jalapeño peppers. The meal was very good, but again drink refills were slow to come which was disappointing. This all being said I do have concerns over cleanliness and clutter that has reduced my overall review 1 star. Since I have not seen this mentioned on other reviews I may be over critical, so please understand this is my opinion. However, on my last visit with my wife she understood areas of concern too. First, when you enter there is a nasty door mat that just needs to be tossed and really does not belong. The large brown 16 inch tiles on the floor is something you usually see in a commercial building, not a restaurant. Kept clean and polished they look drop dead gorgeous. However, on everyone of my visit’s they have been dirty. On the visit with my wife they were tacky and in the bathroom downright sticky. On today’s visit again dirty. This type of tile takes a lot of maintenance to polish it up nicely with the right material to clean. When going to pay I noticed the small sink they use up front was filthy. Another issue is clutter. I counted 35 boxes just adjacent to the dining room. Two large boxes were actually in the dining room next to tables customers were seated at. Another huge box was being used as a table behind the counter in front of the soda fountain. I am unsure if they have no storage in back, or they have too much inventory. Either way it’s an eyesore to this customer and in my opinion should be addressed. All tables were completely clean and nicely prepared for customers. I hope to come back soon and enjoy another great meal. However, I also hope that it is cleaner with less clutter. I still want to meet the boy wonder Vincent.
