I like this place. I would never consider a beer place fun but this place is… FUN. I visited this place on Taco Tuesday, the tacos are $ 1. You get your pick of Beef, Shrimp or Chicken. The tacos are just ok, nothing fancy, my friend and I were saying how they need to add something, a spice or something to make the tacos worth talking about. Then again, they are only a dollar so you can’t get too mad at that. The beer selection is pretty on point and I have to say I was pretty impressed with how attentive the staff was. Super-Friendly people, who don’t mind trying to figure out your«taste» if you aren’t a beer aficionado and aren’t sure of what you want. They have a cute little dog that is super friendly who wanders around, I think it’s cool but people should be warned if in fact they have dog problems or may want to bring your kids here(I might judge you) I love the chalkboard wall they have on the inside .The bathroom here has all bottlecaps they have collected from customers, somewhere in there, is a note saying whoever has the final bottlecap that fills up the room wins«Penny Pints». Next door is an area you can buy a few brews or wine to go, so awesome! They have a nice outside area, such a cool spot to sit back and relax with the crew and enjoy brews. Apparently 10 bottlecaps that you collect will get you something cool(i forgot). Can’t wait to go again.

Popped in on my day off after seeing a post on Facebook about their fun mix-in beers(and finding out they carry my Larry’s Lemonade!). After perusing the beer selection for a few minutes(create your own 6-pack… yes please!) We meandered into the tap room(bar?). The gentleman that happily followed our sporadic and inconsistent meandering, knowledgeable and listing off information on the various beers we inquired about, and listening to my nonsensical rambling with a smile made the visit all the better. The place is well laid out, comfortable, and clean with a nice selection of music at just the right volume you can sing along or ignore as your heart desires. I will definately be returning(want to try those special beer mixes!)

This was my first time here and it was great! They have 50 beers on tap and the bartenders not only let you try a taste of any beer but they were very knowledgeable about each one. Great atmosphere and friendly place to hang out !

The people working at Mix It Up are consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about their business. I always enjoy shopping here for the latest brews and sampling some new tastes. The tasting room is pure heaven in a pint. Their friendly canine is there to greet customers with a tail wag. The staff knows what they’re talking about and love chatting with their customers. SOGLAD this place is here!

We’ve been going to mix it up since just after they opened, before they had the adjacent building and I’ve got to see I really love it there. The only reason we really noticed it was because we were getting sushi next door, the place is a bit hidden next to the large ABC store. But I’m so glad we decided to stop in. They have a wonderful selection of craft/specialty beers and ciders that are difficult to find in the general stores. Since the addition of the adjacent tap area mix it up has definitely grown in clientele. I definitely notice on Fridays(our usual day to stop in) the place has a decent crowd, mixed between hipsters, families, and young professionals. I definitely like that they now offer a small seating section where you can choose whether you want to have a pint, a sample set, or just chill. They provide table games such as cards without humanity, jenga, apples to apples etc. I’m still a bit confused about the food they offer. It seems sort of odd, I believe they have chilli, soft pretzels with dip, waffles etc. just a tad odd in the atmosphere but no issue. I did find it a bit off putting having children there on a Friday evening in a drinking venue but it is relaxed enough(not a full on bar) so I guess parents need their chill time too. ALSO, awesome random note, dogs are allowed. The owners have a pretty cool story concerning their dog that’s always there, check out the news article they have hanging up! Anyways, back to the selection, I’ve never been much of a beer drinker, more into cider. Previously I just stuck with what I know, angry orchard, but since being able to sample a variety of speciality drinks I now refuse to drink angry orchard lol. Not only that, I’ve been able to find beers that I actually enjoy there! We go 2−3x a month and I always get the mix and match 6 pack, trying different things each time. My boyfriend, in the meantime, goes straight for the tap room where he samples what appeals to him then gets a growler of it. With the growlers, you buy your first growler and beer and keep the growler, then every time you return you bring the same one to refill and just pay for the beer. Obviously each selection is priced differently, you can definitely find affordable options and even the generic mass produced stuff(they do sell angry orchard there). The owners are great people, very personable. The décor leaves little to be desired, but I’m sure it’ll be improved upon over time. The clientele is diverse and the pickings mix from beers and ciders to some wines and premixed drinks. I am finding, as it grows, the servers are becoming more preferential to people they know and will sometimes be a little slow or impersonal to those they don’t know. Maybe it’s just the recent time I went but I hope this doesn’t become the overall experience every time we go. I really like this place, I just hope the servers can be a bit more amicable with all clients, not just their favorites.

I came across this place on accident, and I have to say I am glad I did. I walked in and was promptly greeted. I told them I came in because I in the mall for food but all the restaurants were closed(weird hours). I was informed that not only do they have beer on tap but that they also serve food. The menu is really limited but I did get the pretzel and the pepperoni roll thingy. Very tasty treats and perfect to accompany your beer. The BEER!!! With so many taps it’s hard to choose but they will give you samples to help you decide or you can do what I did and get a flight. You get 8 beers with your flight and with so many beers to choose from it may be hard to pick just 8. They also have a retail shop and I was able to find some beers I was hoping to find in the area. Successful trip for me! I cannot wait to go back and bring them some beers from WI. So this may sound weird, but you gotta check out the bathroom. The floor is comprised of old bottle caps. Super cool for sure. And they are going to redo their retail counter with craft beer caps. The staff there was super friendly and amazingly awesome. It really feels family owned. And they have the sweetest pup there.(I am sorry I don’t remember her name). Some people may get weirded out by it but I loved it. Really made it feel like you were visiting someone’s home. Do yourself a favor, stop in and say hi. And if you are traveling to the area bring some local brews. I bet they would love that!

They have a great beer selection, both bottled and on tap, and will let you try every one before you decide on a growler to go or pint to stay. Reasonable prices, great beer, and good attitude from the employees make mix it up a staple in Virginia Beach.

This was a fantastic Elite event! I loved the samples — had a peanut butter and jelly craft beer(sorry, I don’t know all the fancy lingo), sampled Larry’s Lemonade and the root beer — all awesome. I ended up leaving with a 6 pack and two growlers! The store is laid out very nicely and everything is very organized. Easy to find items and the staff are some of the friendliest folks I have met in a long, long time. If you’re planning a party of adult spirits, this is your place to go. There is an ABC store nearby but you don’t get the service there like you will here. Prices were great — they offer a discount for checking in on FB and also a discount based on customer loyalty — check it out. They are set to expand in the Fall and I can’t wait to see what else they have planned. We will be back!

Glad I was able to attend the Unilocal event at Mix It Up! Listening to the owners and how the business transpired was touching and inspiring! The place is well organized and the collection of beers they offer… WOW! Beer heaven! My cousin, who isn’t a beer drinker, actually found some beers she enjoyed! One doesn’t have to be a true beer aficionado to enjoy! Come here and have the subject matter experts guide you through the the world of craft beer!

This is a really cool place! I mean I have absolutely zero knowledge about beer. My opinion of what I think of beer is. it’s gross and it definitely causes the belly to expand beyond measure really fast. And for that reason alone I stay away from it. But since coming across this store, no worries here! I mean they educate you, and you tell them the taste you prefer and they will certainly point you in the right direction. And when I say they, I’m speaking of Amberly and Coleman(co-owners) and the rest of the staff here. OMG they are super friendly! And they seem to express great passion about what they do! Now this is what I call over the top customer service. The chemistry is definitely warm almost like a best friend spirit! I really cannot recommend much of any thing to try. I wish I could be of more help. But the items I did try and enjoyed were: Larry’s Lemonade(beer) and the Pro-mis-Q-ous(wine)! Both were mighty tasty. The Lemonade reminded me of the Mike’s Hard, but better! And the wine… OMG, the name definitely fits. A very sexy feel to my palate! The store has only be open since November 2014. But I see them becoming way popular if they aren’t already. The store is located nexy to an ABC store, which I think is stellar! Because what you can’t find or want something different — Mix It Up — is literally right there to save the day or night!!! But get this the stay open until midnight Mon-Sat. — genius!!! The location is a bit far for me, please it’s worth the drive. It’s minutes from the beach and a bundle of restaurants are in the area. So the drive is nothing when you have everything at your fingertips. Parking is tight, but who cares when you see what this awesome store has to offer. They sell other items and beverages as well. So take a trip one day! I mean you have until midnight on most nights to get here! So perhaps after dinner; take a mini road trip to Mix it Up! You can get growlers«to go» also!!! So buy a growler once, use it over and over again each time you visit here. Just make sure it’s washed to make sure you enjoy each fill of beer to the fullest! HAVEFUNANDDRINKRESPONSIBLY

So I had my first experience with Mix it Up as part of a Unilocal event/meetup, which inspired me to write my first review. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about craft beers, and offered me a sample of their beers they had on draft,(loved the Larry’s Lemonade) — which was available to fill a growler for $ 10. They have everything you can think of to complement an ABC store, which is in the same shopping center — mixers, champagne, bar tools, or to simply grab a mix and match 6 pack, I will be stopping in whenver I’m in the area.

Alriiiight, alright. So, I have two favorite business owners in Virginia Beach. These two people are fiercely dedicated to their craft(and by craft, I mean craft beer), smart, young, fresh, and –most of all: cutting edge. Most importantly, these two people are incredibly service-motivated. Their names are Coleman Ferguson and Amberly Carter and, let me tell you, they are(in every sense of the word) freaking rockstars. One of my favorite things about Unilocal is this: Unilocal loves and fosters small business. It’s why I love Unilocal –hell, it’s why I work for Unilocal. But, by the beard of Zeus, when I think of small business: I instantaneously think of these two. These two that work so hard into the witching hours of the night; all so I can have an alcoholic root beer float before bed. These two embody what teamwork, a dream, and a good work ethic can do. Ultimately, these are two folks just out to earn the American Dream. And for that, even though I don’t even like beer all that much, I will patronize them until we’re all in walkers, members of The Red Hat Society, and going on seniors cruises. I know an awful lot about craft beer and I have Coleman and Amberly to thank for that. They have THE«all the rage» beer right now called Not Your Father’s Root Beer and I just picked up two six-packs of them. I haven’t even tried them yet, but if the dream team recommend it … I know it will be a bad ass beer!

Decided to try this place after seeing fellow Unilocal reviews. The owners were super friendly with great customer service. They helped me select a variety of flavors to take home. We were given a free glass as well. They were out of stock of a few of our favorites, but plan to return soon. All of the ones they recommended that we have tried have been great. Try the watermelon. it is delish!

Small but nice place with super service with a smile! Popped in here to check out their local and craft beer selection. While small and short on stock due to the nasty snowy weather they has a decent selection. I was warmly and cheerfully greeted and offered a taste test of a vanilla beer and a couple of wines, they do have some crafts in a cooler and a small room off to the side with a normally ample selection. While not as extensive a selection as others Mix it Up should serve this area of the beach nicely. They offer a discount for 1st timers and I will be going back soon hopefully the weather has cleared and the stock is full, because I am sure they are as over this snow stuff like most of us and want full shelves.

The little local guy is trying to stand up against the big box Virginia ABC store. Well kinda, but not so much. They both sell retail alcohol but Mix It Up is a niche business that pairs well with the VA Alcoholic Beverage store that sell no beer, or wine. This ABC store happens to be one of my favorites as well. Is this a match made in heaven, I hope so. Mix It Up is a new concept business that opened up in the Lynnhaven Colony strip area Fall of last year. Co-Owners Coleman Ferguson and Amberly Carter can be seen in the store as regular staff on visits. The idea came out of the need for a venture that combined both drink mixers and Craft Beers. The location seemed obvious with no one on the Shore Drive Corridor to compete with them. For that matter they have a unique mix, no pun intended of merchandise to begin with. I have driven by the store many times and knew it was there and had yet to check them out. I am not crazy about the access in and out of the lot, but yet it’s not really that big of a deal. You will have to access one of the side roads to enter. Due to the fact they do not have frontage and signage is not great either it will be important for them to both build word of mouth and attempt to have ABC clientele recognize there presence. When visiting I found plenty of parking and I don’t think this will typically be of issue. The lots was clear, the sidewalks were also clear of any debris. I walked into the store and was met by Co Owner Coleman. I told him I was in a hurry, but wanted to check out some good Craft Beers, specifically there Stouts and Lagers. They had a nice selection of beer sold by the bottle. I am unsure if there are six pack pricing. Coleman quickly pointed out a beer rated at 99 that was a harder to find, Dragons Milk. It came in the larger 22 oz size. I discussed the size and my wife not wanting to split and he said it would keep for 48 hours after opening. I decided to go for it and set it on the counter to browse a bit more. When discussing some crafts I found him knowledgeable and up to date which is crucial in this type of operation. If not your survival will be short lived. The store is somewhat challenged for aesthetics in my opinion. Light wooden floors, yellow walls and pretty drab in the middle with a few display tables that have s small amount of gift items. The layout is bottled beer in the coolers to your left, mixers to the rear left. Craft beers are all the way in the back in a separate room. The coolest part of the store is the chalkboard arch way as you enter the craft beer room. They have the names of some of the beers being carried in a disorganized graffiti fashion. Checkout counter to your right. For the most part the store was clean other than some stocking going on that had several boxes out up front, but they were out of the way of the customers. Some domestic and imports in the cooler are sold by six pack. They also have a small supply of wine. Do not come here for wine if you are picky, selection is very slim. Wine is obviously not a part of there core business model. They offer some refrigerated wine and the rest on shelving to the right at the end of the counter. Checkout was flawless with Coleman and he recommended a bottle sealer to keep my beer fresh, I ended up throwing it in too! We Chatted for a few minutes and he discussed his partner ship with Amberly. Due to the fact they are a niche business they are really hoping to bring a new customer base in. They do have tastings and release parties of new beers. As a matter of fact they have both tomorrow night. O’Connor tasting and a release of the much anticipated Dogfish Head 120 that will have very limited supply. They are working social media and are on Facebook and Instagram. I like what I saw enough to hit them up again soon. Friendly owner, nice selection of Craft Beer and mixers, but best of yet a local business to support. They have work to do in their effort to grow and get word of mouth out about the stores existence. So if you like Craft Beer, domestic beer, mixers, wine and gift items, I don’t think you will be disappointed. I will be back.
