Played hard at Hapuna Beach then jetted up to Waimea for lunch. Saw the ad on Unilocal and jumped on it. My kids loved it and we thought it was great food. Clean, fresh, flavorful and good portion size. The fries are crispy and light as well as the chicken schnitzel. The Hawaiian beef dönner mimicked those in Germany. What a find!

My wife and I tried Dan O Doner for the first time the other day and we loved it. I had the Beef sandwich with all toppings, and my «significant other» had the falafel sandwich, all toppings minus jalapeños. We both also selected the garlic aioli. Both our sandwiches were craft-fully assembled, delicious and a good size. We were pleasantly stuffed after finishing our sandwiches. I liked that the contents of the sandwich seemed evenly distributed so with every bite you get a little bit of each ingredient. Not easy to do with a sandwich so stuffed full like this. Just the right amount of jalapeño in there too so it didn’t get too spicy hot to be a distraction from all the other flavors.(hate when that happens) Overall, we really liked«Donors» and will be back ! Would have been 5 stars if it was a little cheaper. $ 11 for the beef, and $ 10 for the falafel sandwich, but they were really good. We had our own drink already and took our lunch to a nearby park to eat.

Delicious! Food is fresh, tasty and full of flavor. The sauces are out of control and made in house, the lilikoi vinaigrette is my favorite! Everything is delicious, with choices for both vegetarians/vegans and meat eaters!

Found this gem in a local tourism brochure and boy am I glad! Made a detour on my way to Waipio Valley as I love me some good Mediterranean and middle eastern food. The bread they use on their doner sandwich is heavenly and probably outshines the doner kebab itself. They made me a sandwich with the wrong sauce but immediately offered to make me a fresh sandwich to which I refused but they insisted I take a free soda on the house. What a little gem in a tiny little town. If you’re driving on Route 19 from Kona to Hilo or to Waipio, you have to stop here on the way!

Really wanted to like this place because the staff is so nice. However the meat was room temperature and salty. The serving size is huge though, it would be nice if there was a smaller option for the wrap. Falafels were excellent. We tried the falafel box.

What a treat! This place is fantastic! First time here, the guy at the register was so kind and explained the menu and sauces to us. The place had an open kitchen and was really clean. We both got the sandwich with local beef… ONO! I got the garlic sauce, tasty! $ 12 for a sandwich and it’s worth it. I definitely look forward to coming back and trying something new! 5 stars, yummy food, great service and clean atmosphere!

Recently moved to the big island from California. I am a huge fan of gyros and Mediterranean food. This is the only spot on the island to help my cravings. Wonderful food. Authentic. Good portions and great price. Really cute inside décor. New favorite spot on the island. EATHERENOW.

Freakin amazeballs, this place. Beef and falafel kebabs are winnahz. They have a couple different options for the sauce, I always stick with the garlic yogurt one. Even their fries are amazing, they have some falafelly flavor to them. Small, chill place. Real nice owner couple. Lots of beverage options. Super stoked to have them open here in Waimea, we needed some different dining options, this place is a welcome surprise.

While I was happy to see an actual doner place open in Hawaii, this fell fall short of my expectations. My issues: 1) The beef was served at room temperature(low 70s) 2) The veggies were served ice cold which overwhelmed the already cold beef 3) The whole thing was wrapped in a tortilla like a burrito(wth?) Add to this, there is a schizophrenia on their menu with portions of Schnitzel and Pork Adobo. I ended up only eating about 1⁄5 of my meal before looking for other food from another establishment.

Mmh, Döner. They are from Stuttgart, but do everything a bit different than in Germany. Not in a bad way though! Döner is sold as beef or falafel in Kebab(bread) or Dürüm(wrap) style. The Kebab is not toasted and the Dürüm is not baked, but this different way of making it also tastes good. The Döner meat is made from Big Island beef. However, it is not veal, so it is not as juicy as it would be in Germany. It has a hint of Bratwurst flavour, but that is okay. Overall, I think this is the best solution compromising the location and the German-Turkish heritage of Döner Kebab. I liked the falafel from Dan-O’s muuuch more than the one from the local Döner diner near our apartment in Germany. If you are wondering about it: the rotary style Döner was invented in Berlin, Germany, by Turkish immigrants. People consoder it a Turkish food, but it is actually German or German-Turkish. It’s like Chicken Tika Masala which was invented by Indian immigrants in England.

Stopped here driving back to Hilo from Kona and found this little gem on Unilocal.I had the falafel sandwich which was excellent. The falafel was made fresh for my order and served on really good house made bread. My hubby had the beef sandwich which was great as well. Nice local spin on a gyro sandwich. Everything was nice and fresh. Definitely check this love out for lunch!

I’ve driven by this joint at least a hundred times before finally stopping in today for lunch. Penny and her staff were extremely helpful with answering all my questions about the menu. It was also good to see many different walks of life come in and enjoy such a unique cuisine. I ordered the Doner salad with beef and the garlic yogurt dressing. Crispy greens with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes made for the perfect salad. Fresh carved beef off the spit just melts in your mouth. You have to also try the chili. The best part is there’s no beans and it’s seasoned to perfection. If you live in Waimea you gotta stop by here and enjoy some good eats. Mahalo Penny and staff for such a great culinary experience.

Als ich ein Kind war, habe ich in der Turkei gewohnt… Wait. Sorry. This place takes me back. Dan-O’s has amazing döner and falafel, which takes me back to my childhood in Turkey and my young adulthood traveling throughout Germany! When we moved to Waimea last summer I noticed the umlaut on the sign(that’s the dots over the o in döner) immediately then waited(relatively impatiently) for the restaurant to open. I even Twitter stalked the business, and I suck at Twitter… that’s how desperate I was to get this food into my belly! Once they opened, I found a little piece of heaven. My son asked me today, while I was stuffing my face with a döner kebab(made with local beef and amazing ekmek-like bread) if I felt like a kid again. The answer: yes! Not only is the döner amazing, but they make the best falafel I’ve had in my life. My LIFE. They’re so crispy and delicious and not at all doughy. All of the sauces(I’ve had all but the guava vinaigrette) are delicious and made in-house. The garlic yogurt is very tasty and traditionally served with döner but the roasted red veggie is amazing. My husband loves to get the döner box(meat and fries) with sriracha mayo. The salads are great. I don’t think I can recommend this place enough. I’m so happy they exist and their food is so incredible it’s all I can do to not go every other day. Please don’t hesitate to go by and check them out. I promise you’ll be pleased!
