The chicken blt sandwich I had was great. I liked the seasoning. We purchased one of each of the doughnuts for sampling. They were not bad. I would recommend if you’re in the area to stop by and check it out.

So I can’t attest to other donut locations in the DC area, but fell upon this place while on my way to the White House(Wish I could say for business, but I’m not THAT cool). I’m going to cut straight to the point, their Doughnut selection has more unique flavors than your classic making it hard to choose. I got the passion fruit blueberry upon suggestion, and my own personal preference for fruity. The donuts were decent sized for the $ 2.65 cost, and surprisingly had a more chewy consistency like fried dough borderline croissant texture to it. Not a bad thing by any means but not like your typical yeast risen donut. The frosting was tangy and sweet definitely gives it a punch of passion fruit and blueberry to cut the dough. Overall, I thought it was a good donut with a texture and flavor selection that beats out the classics you would find anywhere else.

This is a match made in heaven. From the Oreo macchiato doughnut to the crème brûlée doughnut to the fried chicken, everything is fantastic. I recommend whatever fun specialty doughnut they have when you visit, because they are always creative with their concoctions. I also recommend the Old Bay seasoned bun when ordering the chicken sandwich, which is also great as the chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside.

First time trying this Astro’s location. We first tried Astro’s at the location in Falls Church. I got the BLT chicken sandwich at both locations and they tasted just as good. It’s a really interesting flavor to combine the plain savory donut with the crispy fried chicken. Don’t forget to ask for Sriracha mayo on your sandwich! The donuts here are not bad. I’ve tried the crème brûlée and it’s pretty tasty but I’d rather go here to get the donut chicken sandwiches than just for donuts. They are a little bit dense for my taste.

I’m pretty torn about this place. While waiting for the White House tour, a friend brought me a maple bacon doughnut from here and it was delicious. The savory, crispy bacon was paired perfectly with a subtle maple dough. A perfect 5 stars. However, when I went back a few hours later and bought a dozen to go, the warm fuzzy from the morning went away. I tried the crème brûlée, chocolate espresso, lemon pistachio, vanilla bean, and peanut butter and all were average. Unmemorable. But I luckily also chose 3 maple bacon out of the dozen and they saved the batch. You need to try them.

Their doughnuts are divine! I’ve been there twice, and I’ve been impressed every time! Their crème brûlée doughnut and their nutela doughnuts are incredible!

When I saw that this place has doughnuts and fried chicken, I knew I had to stop by. I got the fried chicken doughnut sandwich, crème brûlée doughnut, and maple bacon doughnut. I originally wanted the blt fried chicken sandwich but they ran out of bacon so I chose old bay. The fried chicken doughnut sandwich was only alright. I had high expectation for it and thought it would be amazing because the concept sounds so perfect in my mind but it fell a bit short. The doughnut as buns was pretty plain with just a dash of old bay seasoning sprinkled on top. I also felt that they were a bit soggy. The fried chicken was decent but not great. What I really liked here were the two doughnuts I tried. They were way better than the fried chicken doughnut sandwich in my opinion. I would come back for the doughnuts but not the sandwich. The flavors were well balanced and not too sweet or loaded with glaze and toppings. The crème brûlée had the crunch from the brûlée on the outside and the filling inside was just right amount. The saltiness of the bacon and the sweetness of the doughnut worked well for the maple bacon doughnut. And after I tried astro’s I came across a list of best doughnuts in each state and astro’s crème brûlée doughnut made the cut for dc. So definitely try that one if you had to choose.

I love these doughnuts! Maple bacon, Brooklyn Black-out, love! I order from here when downtown and they do not disappoint. The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich is pretty good, too but way to decadent to have more than once a month for me. I had to knock off a star because there is not enough veggies on their sandwiches-would be nice to get a tomato or lettuce on the side when it is delivered– and too much salt in the fried chicken. Otherwise… wow, so awesome!

We tried the chicken fingers and peanut butter and jelly donut. The donut was very good, exactly what you would expect it to be. Chicken fingers have a good flavor but are not really crispy, something to consider. They were barely warm and not hot, making us wonder if they were sitting out.

So I was SUPER excited to come here this morning. I got here a bit before 7:30am and waited for the doors to open. I even told the lady working I was going to help their reviews on Unilocal since they only have three stars, but unfortunately I won’t be able to do that this time around(I’m hoping to give them another shot tomorrow). I ordered the crème brûlée donut because of all the hype my friends have been giving me about it. The donut was GREAT the first bite or two, but unfortunately it wasn’t cooked all the way through. Major let down. Hoping when I come back tomorrow the dones will be well done!

Always wanted to try out this place. Kinda surprised at how small it is. No dining area. You place your order, pay for your order, wait a couple of minutes, take your order, and then bounce. On this day, I ordered the Vanilla Bean doughnut(perfection!), Crème Brulee doughnut(underwhelming), and chicken tenders with BBQ sauce(yummy in my tummy). I’ll be back.

In comparison to chain donut shops, this one is pretty awesome, but compared to other mom-and-pop shop donut places, it kind of falls of the mark for me. I’m not saying others won’t like it but I was hoping for more flavors of donuts then the 5 or 6 they had available. The storefront is pretty small inside, it has a couple chairs but mostly outdoor seating, the day we went was not a day you wanted to be sitting outside. There were about 5 – 6 flavors of donuts: PB&J, maple bacon, cherry blossom, and some others I can’t recall. They also have chicken options for lunches, I don’t partake in the chicken but it seemed pretty cool. I don’t know how good it would be to order because I wasn’t blown away by the donut but maybe the chicken options are better. I wouldn’t go back right away because I think there are so many choices in the city that I would want to try more.

4 stars for Astro’s fried chicken. 3.5 stars for the doughnuts. I was most excited to try out the doughnuts but the fried chicken sandwich was the best part of the meal. My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too busy — took maybe 5 – 10 minutes max to get our food and sit down. Initially, we only ordered doughnuts to split(Crème Brûlée, Coffee and Cherry Cheesecake) but we saw another couple sit down with doughnut chicken sandwiches and we decided to order that too. As a self-proclaimed doughnut connessiour, I was a little disappointed by Astro’s Doughnuts. The Crème Brûlée and Cherry Cheesecake doughnuts were reminiscent of Doughnut Plant in NYC(which has some of the BEST doughnuts in my opinion but they’re pricey) but sadly not up to par. And for the price point($ 9+ for 3 doughnuts), just not worth the money in my opinion. My favorite by far was the Crème Brûlée but my boyfriend loved the tartness of the Cherry Cheesecake. We both agreed the Coffee was a bit bland and the icing was super dry and flaked off the doughnut — similar to Dough in NYC but also just not as good. Now to the chicken sandwich. This was the good stuff. We happened to order just as they were bringing out freshly made chicken and it was delicious and juicy. I believe we ordered the Fried Chicken BLT which we inhaled faster than the doughnuts. The bun was a yeast doughnut but unglazed so your fingers were a little greasy when you finished but not sticky from the sugar. Bacon was good and there was a spicy sauce of some sort(sriracha mayo maybe?) that completed the sandwich. Would definitely come back again for that. I felt like I was going to have a heart attack after all that grease and sugar but I definitely recommend the chicken and would most likely come back again if I’m ever in the area.

My favorites are the maple bacon and vanilla bean! If I had to, I would compare this to Krispy Kreme. I don’t have a sweet tooth but this place hits the spot, especially if you have it fresh! I’ve tried maybe 4 – 5 other donut places in the DC area but this is BYFAR the best. In fact, I dare to say it’s the best donut I’ve ever had in my life. This place has a narrow venue so it may feel like the line is longer than it is, but it’s worth waiting for(then eating your donuts in the outside seating area).

Oh Astro Doughnuts, how you’ve captured my heart with the sweet siren song of two of my favorite things… Doughnuts and fried chicken. This trendy, compact, hole-in-the-wall, orchestrates the hearty sweetness of doughnuts and the subtle spicy flavor of fried chicken. Doughnut Experience: * Crème Brûlée Doughnut Oh. My. Goodness. This doughnut is absolutely fantastic. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I’ve had Crème Brûlée… I’ve had doughnuts… But nevertheless my life were they ever mashed up like this. The top is beautifully torched with sugar. The crunch from that glossy toasted sugar top is divine. Next is the sweet, softness of the doughnut… And then the sweet cream filling… Seriously. Amazing. * Cherry Blossom Doughnut A sweet symphony of strawberry frosting, soft doughnut, and a lovely strawberry filling. Beautifully and artistically decorated, I loved just looking at it. * Sea Salt Caramel Doughnut I love me sea salt caramel. It is absolutely one my favorite things ever. This doughnut was so delicious that I couldn’t stop myself from eating it. The moment I came back to reality from Sea Salt Caramel Land, I recognized that I hadn’t taken a photo of it. Oops. But believe me, it is magical. Fried Chicken Experience: * Fried Chicken tenders with Sriracha Mayo Wowed Ka-zowie! This chicken is crispy, hearty, juicy, and crunchy. Surprisingly, it is not greasy. Let me say that again, it is NOT greasy. How is that possible? It was delicious. I have to highlight the Sriracha Mayo because it added that creaminess and little bit of heat that perfectly complimented the chicken. I will say, get a lot more than the four piece… You’ll thank me later for it. Business Experience: I was surprised that there wasn’t a line out the small store front because from what people were telling me, it happens a lot. Walking through the door, you are pleasantly greeted with the sweet smell of doughnuts and the hearty aroma of fried chicken. Again, who knew the two would be so perfect together? Is it a Washington DC thing?

The only donut you really need to try is the crème brûlée! I love the texture and the cream filling taste. If you come early in the morning, there is no wait but come later and expect waiting in line!

This place blew us away! While attending the Cherry Blossom Beer & Wine Fest, we were in line for another food truck, but saw someone pass by with the fried chicken donut sandwich and we instantly got in line for it. AMAZING! We opted for the old bay seasoning on the donut and added jalapenos to the sandwich– along with the siracha mayo, this was one damn good sandwich. The chicken was crispy and juicy and the donut didn’t fall apart when we started diving in. The donut was the right amount of sweet and the old bay on top was delish and added a little extra flavor, just the right amount of spiciness to go with all of our beers! Highly recommend snagging something from here– the donut and fried chicken combo was truly mind blowing!

I’ve had Astro Doughnuts bookmarked for quite some time, after hearing how good the doughnuts were. Finally, we got a chance to try them. We were here on a Saturday in the late morning and were surprised to see how busy it was. It’s a very small place so when the clerk saw us waiting outside, he motioned to a group of about 5 people to move over so we could get in. Finally, when that group decided what they wanted, we were able to order. We noticed that the clerk was the only person working and my husband asked him if he had help. He told us that his co-worker was making a delivery to a local business that had doubled their order on short notice. In addition, he told us that the morning had been crazy busy, which, apparently, was very unusual. Since I’ve had my eye on trying their crème brûlée doughnuts(which were a daily special), I asked about them. It turned out that they hadn’t had a chance to «brulee» the doughnuts but he thought that it would be done in 15 minutes. So, we ordered 2 vanilla glazed ones, 1 strawberry filled and 1 chocolate eggnog. Later, I tried the chocolate egg nog. Biting into it, reminded me of eating a piece of Boston cream pie. The chocolate frosting was just right and didn’t overpower the doughnut. The filling was the same consistency of a Boston crème pie filling but I tasted not even a hint of egg nog. A while later, we tried the vanilla glazed ones. The doughnuts had good consistency — soft and easy to bite and chew. Sometimes yeast doughnuts can be tough in consistency. Yet we barely tasted any vanilla. My husband said his strawberry filled one had a generous amount of filling which did taste like strawberry but he wasn’t wowed. The next day, I set out to get the crème brûlée ones. This time, in the late morning, the place wasn’t very busy — and they actually had the crème brûlée ones. We took them home and had them in the evening. They did have a good glaze that added some crunch and it was reminiscent of a true crème brûlée. The filling had the right consistency but it was lacking in flavor. To us, it didn’t live up to the hype. Yet we don’t regret trying any of the doughnuts we bought. All that said, the doughnuts are better than Dunkies and if I wanted a doughnut and the choice was between Dunkies or Astro, Astro would win out. Yet, we both agree, we wouldn’t make a separate trip just for an Astro doughnut. So, yes, you could do far worse when it comes to doughnuts.
