Just had breakfast from MLK Deli! Had to update my review. It was excellent. I will for sure be back!

The food is absolutely delicious… I have to stop there at least once a week… I tried the chicken salad on croissant and hands done it is the best chicken salad you will get in the DMV… very flavorful and not the basic bland chicken salad most places serve on stale bread… ok, so I also tried the chicken cheese steak was good but the items in it made my bread super soggy and it kind of turned me off to finish it… their salads are the bomb and the dressing taste home made… yum! I tried the fried chicken salad and it was good, but next time I will order grill chicken instead the chicken breast used was a little on the dry side but still flavorful… I also had their chicken wings. mind u… I only order like ten wings and they seems to give me twenty wings which Im not complaining at all because I enjoyed every bite. now the wings are moist and cooked with plenty of seasoning so those with high blood pressure better stay away because u will have a heart attack for real after smacking on these… please know the portions are huge and the prices are reasonable, will post the menu!!! The lemon and strawberry cake are to die for… a pure sugar rush for real… but I have to warn u the place gets packed and it is a tiny little place on MLK that has no ventilation of AC… so be warned on a hot and humid day u may pass out just waiting for your food alone in there… because the food is cooked to order and it takes a long, long, did I say long time… but it is worth the wait aside from sweating down to your undies in that small hot waiting area… but the people are really sweet that owns and works there… I am going to try the other items there but so far everyone I spoke to that orders from there enjoys the food but criticizes the long wait…

Chicken Salad! Chicken Salad Sandwich! Cake! Chicken Salad! Chicken Salad Sandwich! Cake! Chicken Salad! Chicken Salad Sandwich! Cake! Need I say more? You can even put in a request to order a pan of chicken salad for an event at work or home. The only thing I hate is that they are closed on weekends. But during the weekday, my co workers will drive from downtown just to get chicken salad sandwiches with a side of cake! Another great SE institution with friendly service and great food!

Only gave 3 stars because the suddenly they shut down and disappeared. So sad now, the salads were the best ever.

Yet another GOOD greasy spoon. I recently heard great reviews and saw yummy pics, so I decided to see what the fuss was about. I’m glad I did. Good food. The sloppy joe was VERY sloppy! I had enough left over for another sandwich, so that was great(especially since I eat every 2 hours, like a newborn. LOL). With fries and an ice cold half-and-half, I was full half way through my meal — but that didn’t stop me from finishing it. Unfortunately, fries are usually touch and go for me at most deli spots. However, these had just enough salt and pepper(I love pepper!) and didn’t need ketchup as a cover. I was happy about that. For my appetizer/dessert, I had the strawberry cake with white/cream cheese icing. VERY good. I could’ve shared with 2 other people, if I was that kind. I couldn’t wait to get home, so I could pile some ice cream on it. Yum-mo! The atmosphere is nice, the prices are right(which is ALWAYS a plus for me!) and the staff(and customers, actually) is helpful and full of suggestions(salad vs. sandwich vs wraps). You can tell the regulars vs. the newbies, which is always cool. Overall, its a good spot to grab a quick bite, get some laughs and get going, so you can enjoyb your grub. I’ll be back, for sure… and I already know what I’m ordering. Can’t wait for them to join GROUPON! *drool* In the meantime, they offer catering service to some of DC’s elite.

Good potential. 1st visit, very good chicken sandwich w/fries and cake. I liked the seasoning which was a little mildly spicy and the fries weren’t too oily. Good cake too, moist and fresh. Overall a good value and very filling. My only suggestion would be a bigger bun for the sandwich, which got overrun by the contents.

Totally delicious, wonderful folks, down-home place. Veggie burger with everything is going to get your goat. BLT on wheat is going to lay waste to your tongue. And the cake. The cake is deeply delicious. This place earns the strongest recommendation from me for being the cheapest sandwich place I’ve found in DC with possibly the tastiest and least obnoxious food.

I am upping this place to a 5 because: 1. They really make the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. Seriously. 2. The people who work there are soooo friendly. The woman at the register saw my friend and I eying their selection of fresh-baked cakes. She gave us a free slice. It was sooooooo good. I really can’t believe how many incredible restaurants are so thoroughly overlooked by the DC yuppie set.
