The usual palabok combination I’m used to ordering has really gone down when it comes to quality and quantity. My order came in a not usual size portion(unless this is what’s been going on this place!). For a total of $ 8.45(includes tax) — you would think you’ll get a better deal. It comes with the Filipino noodle, a choice of empanada, soda and a small piece of cake(that I feel like just a leftover from cakes that they didn’t sell from the previous day). Today’s visit is not that great. I have to repeat my order several times to the cashier who I felt wasn’t too friendly and looked so impatient. Paying that much for a combo is not worth it. At least not this order. Maybe I’m better off just buying their cakes instead of eating in this place.

Song Parody #530 Review 1,352 Unilocal 3652016 Review #5 «Sweet pastry, won’t you be mine, pinay love, for a life time» Back at the red ribbon, the layout is diferent but the food taste the same. The service was so quick and excellent, I was in and out in minutes. There was less display space but all my favorites were there, I purposely avoided my beloved walnut brownie, I shall return. Parking is still great as usual, at least during the weekdays. «Sweet pastry, won’t you be mine, pinay love, for a life time» Song parody of Tyrese’s 1998 song«Sweet Lady» Sweet pastry, would you be my Pinay love, for a lifetime I’ll be there, so just feed me Your tender, warm pastry In every single way That I love you Give a shout out, cause I want you See I’m hooked on Pinay sexy style So I want to Unilocal, for a little while I always, found you so divine And I must admit, that I like this type So maybe, we will have lunch time I want to eat out, it’s time to dine Sweet pastry, would you be my Pinay love, for a lifetime I’ll be there, so just feed me Your tender, warm pastry Sweet pastry, would you be my Pinay love, for a lifetime I’ll be there, so just feed me Your tender, warm pastry Now on the regular I think its Mamon time But I’ll taste it all Cause its so damn fine And I heard that you were baking And I am entrigued by what you’re making Late night review all, up on my cell phone A pastry fantasy, it’s time to get it on For your pastry I will be Hungry for you My sweet pastry Sweet pastry, would you be my Pinay love, for a lifetime I’ll be there, so just feed me Your tender, warm pastry Sweet pastry, would you be my Pinay love, for a lifetime I’ll be there, so just feed me Your tender, warm pastry

I never thought I would have to check the expiration while in the store. I am typically under the assumption that if something is going to expire within a day or so that it would be a mark down item. I bought some mamon and ensaymada and didn’t realize until I was going to eat it a day or 2 later that all my items had expirations for the day after I bought them. My husband was about to eat the mamon thinking it might still be ok but they all already had mold growing. In addition, I had bought empanadas and they tasted dry and bland.
There seems to be a common denominator with the complaints here. Either they are complaining about the uneducated and unprofessional service from Pilipino servers or the reselling of old merchandise which is common in Pilipino stores and restaurants. Learn from American service providers where they treat everyone with respect and courtesy. Why keep these rude and illiterate counter servers when it is affecting your business. I just don’t understand it. And why keep selling old stuff when it is turning away future customers? As Abraham Lincoln said, «You can fool some of the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.»

Come here alot for their Chocolate Mocha Crunch or Mango cake!!! Bought my coworkers bday cake here, supposedly $ 21.00 but they gave me a discount and paid $ 17 for the Chocolate Mocha Crunch candles included. very delicious and a crowd pleaser. Love the mamons(sponge cakes) great for snacks. Honestly, their chicken empanadas are good but too overpriced and you could get more for your buck somewhere else. I also like to order their Pancit Palabok for lunch. The staff are friendly, I liked the unexpected discount. When you do order food like the Pancit Palabok, it does take a while to receive it. But definitely recommend their cakes!

Picked up a chocolate cake from here for my boyfriend’s Birthday. I asked if it was milk chocolate because We don’t like dark & the lady said it was milk chocolate so I said okay great! It actually tasted a bit dark to me but it was actually good and moist. I still enjoyed it, just wish it could have been milk choc!

I was on a hunt for some empanadas after reading a Unilocal review. I ended up inside a place called Sea Food City thinking it was the location,. It is a supermarket with a meat counter and produce just like a Vons or a Food 4 Less but when you walk in on both sides there are little pocketed Pilipino fast food joints on ether side. Walking in on the left was a BBQ Grill place and they had meats on sticks, «scures«well damn how can I pass that up 4 sticks in a bag 10 or so dollars. The lady at the meat grill place told me to check the other fast food joint in the shopping store and that they sold empanadas. So I go into the only place there that’s an actual bakery called Red Ribbon Bakery and I ask the ladies if they sell empanadas. The young lady says yes and I asked how much and what kind. I realized this was not the place I was looking for and told her that I had found a place on Unilocal and thought this was the location. She said they only make chicken ones and that they were good. I had just purchased the meat sticks so I said hell ill take 2 of them. At this point I am looking at some bagged food in a little carousel heater oven. She pulls 2 empanadas and bags them up. I continue to talk about the place I am looking for and another young lady walks up and starts talking. In short the 2 young ladies one a little older said they don’t know where the place is I am looking for. I thanked them for there time and went to walk out and the older one said something in Tagalog and then in English to the effect like«ILLLOOKINTOTHATFORYOUSIR«and they laughed at me… HOWDAMNRUDE. TOBOOTTHEEMPENADASTASTELIKECRAP. The BBQ was awesome though hahaha

I thought Goldilocks across Amar had closed, so I came here a few years ago for my sister’s birthday cake. They had a Barbie cake I was after, with the cake part being her dress. The problem was, they had only Caucasian Barbies. I wanted it to look more like my sister… we’re Mexican, with a little bit of Filipino. So I searched for a relatively inexpensive Barbie that I could bring in for the cake, and the best I could find was not a latina Barbie, but an African-American one. She was closer to looking like my sister than the white one for sure. When I took that Barbie in, the old racist Filipino woman scoffed, laughed, and said«Why black?», then made a face that looked like she had a huge caca log sitting on her upper lip. I told her«Tell me which one looks more like me, this white one, or that one? She’s beautiful and that’s the one I want you to use» I can’t stand small, narrow-minded people. I would have gone elsewhere if I wasn’t pressed for time. All of that BS aside, I have to say that the cake was delicious, but minus 2 stars for that woman they employ who can’t see beauty in every shade.

5 stars for the baked goods. I’ve never tried their entrees and I always expect a wait esp during holidays because it’s a small place with high demand. Never bothered me because line goes quickly/not a ridiculous wait and gives me time to drool over the cake display. Maybe I’m biased because I grew up eating these cakes, but every cake is different/creative and all are delicious! Lots of faves here: mango cake(light, refreshing, not overly sweet, and simply delicious) mocha crunch(has little crunchy honeycomb nougat pieces and if you love coffee, this is the cake) chocolate moist(definitely moist, my brother’s fave. I wish I knew how to make it) ube/yam(different yet addictive again light and not too sweet) chocolate mousse(nothing like it. you can get other chocolate mousses at famous places but there’s something different/secret recipe? in the way they make this cake, again not too sweet. not sure if they still make this) sans rival(layers of cashew meringue goodness! kind of like pittsburgh’s prantl’s toasted almond cake but less cream so I actually think it’s better). I stress the«not too sweet» meaning it has just the right amount of sweetness that is dessert(IMHO) without feeling like you need an insulin shot(with the exception of brazo de mercedes bc that I think is rolled in sugar). When I introduced my hubby to mamon(sponge cake), we would hoard them before heading back east. I wish they have a store in the east coast or the city where I live because people are missing out.

My wife and I enjoy coming here from time to time with our friends. My favorite is the Butter Mamon and Chicken empanada. While the good is decent, I’ll have to knock off a star due to the taller thin dark complected girl that works here. Keep in mind, my wife is pinay. So with that being said, this girl consistently gives us amongst other customers dirty looks. She’s rude and walks with conceited gait and attitude. Filipinos are known for their mabuhays, but at this place, that girl will just make you feel uncomfortable. My recommendation, get it to go, if you’re going to eat here know that this girl will look down upon you as if she was better than you.

Ivy W. was on spot about the fake Ube Mamon. I came here to try the delicacy of purple yam pastries and cake. For some reason the girl told me that they sell ube cake in slices but not today. Wow, just my luck. Now on to expose the FRAUD that is the ube mamon here. Look for«ube» here down below: INGREDIENTS: Sugar, egg whites(egg whites, sodium citrate, triethyl citrate and guar gum as whipping agent), wheat flour(enriched bleached wheat flour), niacin, iron, thiamine, mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), water, egg yolks, oil, taro powder, conrstarch, baking powder(baking soda, cornstarch, sodium aluminum sulfate, calcium sulfate, monocalcium phosphate), salt, artificial color, artificial flavor, cream of tartar, potassium sorbate, gum Did you see it? NO! Only when I walked back to my car that I thought to scrutinize the ingredients. If I knew in the store, I wouldn’t have bought it. I’ve been tricked. It does taste good though. It has taro powder. I like taro. But I came for the purple yam.

What is mamon, you ask? Mamon is a very popular Filipino sponge cake… or so I’m told. …Of course, I didn’t have the chance to ask that while we were at the bakery because the two women at the counter were looking as unfriendly as could be. No hellos, no smiles, absolutely no exchanging of words, just had my total up on the register, collected my money, bagged my goodies, and that was that. The ube mamon was bright purple, and upon eating it, I found the insides to be an even brighter hue of purple — almost artificially so. It was light, yes. But it was just mildly sweet, somewhat fluffy, and extremely buttery. There was something off about the flavor because it tasted so fake(nothing like purple yam), so I threw it away after a few bites; and it didn’t help any that there were so many oil streaks going across its wrapping. The butter mamon hit a little closer to home though it did start growing some mold after the weekend. My coworker had an individually sliced and packed piece of cake that looked like a regular vanilla cake. He choked on it while driving and said it was extremely dry — so dry that we needed to make a VERY quick stop so that he could clear his throat before returning to work. Ugh, Red Ribbon…
