Younker’s

Not much to say about Younkers, always a ton of different brands to shop from and sometimes there are good deals. Pretty much the same experience for Younkers in all the malls I’ve been to in the area. They are kept clean and organized. I have never been to a Younkers until I came to Iowa.
Staff members are friendly, but sometimes it is difficult to locate one when they are extremely busy.

There are four Younkers in Des Moines and this one is in my opinion the best. Perhaps it is because they have Van Maur as the other anchor in the mall. I can’t say but this Younkers seems to be the best stocked and looks the nicest.
I will buy shoes here, especially if they are running a get $ 50 bucks off a $ 100 purchase coupon, (which seems to be every other week via email) You can’t get the top line brands but can get Kenneth Cole, Florsheim etc. My expereinces have been pretty good.
The other Younkers (Merle Hay, South Ridge, and even Jordan Creek) are poorly stocked and staffed and seldom worth the time. Two Stars at best for any of them. (Kohls is better stocked)

Cons
Some bad things going on here… after knowing someone that worked here, my recommendation is to never work here in your life! Rumor has it they wouldn’t re-​hire a sweet old lady for being too old during the Christmas, even she was the top cosmetic lady in terms of sales in years past. Another girl tried to get a promotion into cosmetics, and they told her «you’re not ready yet,» even though she had worked there for quite a while. Management wouldn’t say it, but what they really meant was she was too overweight and they wouldn’t hire her to be in cosmetics because you have to be younger (she was), thin and pretty. Managers push and push for credit cards and are rude to their subordinates. Don’t buy your shoes here – these people are paid on commission and treat the associates that ring up their shoes (who don’t get a commission) like crap.
