I went in here looking for hockey gear. I played as a teen and used to get most of my gear here. Upon walking in I noticed a young guy and older man working and no customers. I was not greeted even as I was sifting through gloves and pads. Neither person came to check on me and ask if I needed help. The selection was mediocre anyhow. Still, I asked if they offered skate sharpening and they both turned away from me to do something else and just said«yeah». Learn customer service.

I think Craigslist and Ebay might have been the death of PIAS. I went here as a kid, playing ice hockey when I grew up. Now I shopped here for some fitness equipment and it seemed like everything was either new or dilapitated. If you’re looking for something used to save money, but not trashed, you might be disappointed. The weight plates are 25% cheaper than new ones, but trashed. Is the savings worth it to you? I thought it was so I give it 2 stars instead of 1.

We stopped in here the other day on my quest to find a treadmill that doesn’t cost as much as my rent. The store itself seemed a little cramped and dirty. They had a lot of stuff, too much for their space I think. They had about 3 treadmills. Nothing to write home about. They have a HUGE selection of hockey equipment. What makes this store so great was the staff. I wish I remembered the guys name who was helping us. He was very attentive and a delight to interact with. Long blonde hair guy. So yeah, the store itself could use a little work, but I would stop in here first when looking for sporting equipment because great customer service is worth more than gold in my book.

Customer service is important! When shopping for a travel baseball bat(and I am clueless), the store rep patiently demonstrated the difference in bats, looked through their inventory and even followed with with a call when he sourced a bat that was great quality and fairly priced. Above and beyond in my opinion.

It has a large amount of used, but good condition, sporting equipment and gear. It has a ton of kid and adult bikes as well. This is their new location they moved to 2 weeks ago. I bought a pair of inline skates for $ 40 that retail at $ 150. Not bad. The young guy(maybe late teens) could have been a little friendlier at check out but other than that, it was easy in and easy out. We knew what we needed going in and that young guy did come over and ask if we needed any help. They sell new stuff too, but we didn’t look at it. The place was fairly crowded and a lot customers going in and out. Great business model for this tough economy. We’ll be going back.

I have been dreading the infamous Chicago winters… the northern Midwest winter in general. The bitter cold, the feet if snow, did I mention the bitter frigid cold. Well thanks to a well organized Play It Again and a super friendly staffer, I will now admit I am looking forward to the freezing temps. Why the change of heart? I now own my very own ice skates! I decided to try a different Play It Again after my first attempt was very disorganized and disheartening. The skate selection was actually really nice. The prices ranged from $ 20 – 90 most looked to be gently used pairs. I got a steal on a nice pair of skates closer to the $ 20 range that looked like they were used only a handful of times. Now I’m actually looking forward to a freezing winter, bring it on Jack Frost.

Stopped in here looking for softball equipment I figured might as well buy used because i will only actually play a few times. I went in there not expecting much but came out with a bunch of stuff! Granted some of it is junky but if you really look you can get some steals. I got turf soccer cleats for 12 bucks practically brand new. and I got all the things i needed for a game of softball all for under $ 20 bucks! It was a great deal and i cannot say enough nice things about the staff. Those kids are all so friendly and helpful. It was only my first time here but i will be coming back again soon for all my sporting odds and ends! OOOH they ALSO sell new equipment in here too. which is something i was not aware of!

Joined a coed softball team this summer. Could not find my high school cleats. So I procede to PIA. I was prepared for an adventure, seeing as I’m a girl and I doubted they would have any female cleats. A young high school staff member helped me SOMUCH! I’m usually wary of high schoolers, but he was really helpful and patient. I ended up having to try on about 4 pairs of men’s cleats till I found mine. He kept bringing me different sizes, and a pair of socks. The store is great; so much fun stuff to look at. I walked away with a hardly used pair of Nike baseball cleats for $ 8…can’t beat it! Definately would recommend to anyone with kids who will be starting sports. They also have a fabulous collection of hockey equipment!
