Pizza was good but very expensive. $ 21 for a large pepperoni with extra cheese. Nothing spectacular. Ate dinner a few times, slow to get food, kind of pricey.

My 2 sisters and I ordered take-out from Sophia’s for lunch. We all ordered the same thing, Chicken Valera. None of us wanted the pasta so we asked for it over vegetables. They charged us $ 2.00 extra each. Ok, I guess I get it, even though that seemed like a lot. The clincher was the frozen vegetables they used, and very little flavor to boot! I had to «doctor it up» with Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper. Clearly, I won’t be in a hurry to get another meal there… take-out or otherwise. A friend of mine happen to be at the house when we brought the food back. She said she and her boyfriend decided long ago not to eat there after numerous times being disappointed. That sealed the deal for me! I’m not giving it one star because that seems too mean. It wasn’t horrible I just would NOT recommend it to anyone.

My fiancé and his grandparents came here last night for a late dinner and we couldn’t think of one thing we would have liked different. Excellent food. Phenomenal service. Good prices. It’s sad that this restaurant doesn’t have many good reviews or Unilocal acknowledgment. Additionally we got dessert to go(two slices of chocolate cake) and it was just incredible!!! Note: our waitress was amber who was an excellent waitress who was extremely accommodating and very sweet. We also interacted with other wait staff on our way out and they were also very sweet girls.

Been coming here for 8 years good food at reasonable prices. Lately and this evening the service was horrible! Was sitting for over 10 minutes and three waitress’s walk right by and did not even acknowledge our existence, not even a menu! I hope they hire some competent help soon. Update 4−26−15 Yeah!!! Very good waitress!!! This just increased my rating! Sorry to say that I was there again in December 2015 and waited 20 minutes and had to leave. 2 waitresses walked by 5 times with out even an acknowledgment. So if you can get a waitress to wait on you then enjoy. The food is pretty good!

We have been customers for over 8 years but recently have had negative experiences with the customer service. The first time, we called in an order but when we arrived they had lost it. We ended up waiting close to 30 minutes for our food to be ready after arriving. Since the food is good, we figured we’d try them again. Tonight we placed an order for a cheese and veggie grinder, and after picking it up and arriving back home we realized the grinder was a ham grinder. We called to get reimbursed since the person it was intended for is a vegetarian and were shuffled around until they agreed to reimburse us. Then, when we stopped back in, we were asked«where’s the grinder» and when we said we had thrown it out after seeing it was ham, were told that we couldn’t be reimbursed. While we were eventually reimbursed, the experience was 100% negative and we will no longer order from here and advise others to be cautious.

I always stop by Sophia’s for lunch when I’m in Winsted. I haven’t had the pizza but my go-to is their spinach salad with chicken and Parmesan peppercorn dressing. SOGOOD and always super fresh. The service is always fast and very friendly. Great local spot.

Sophia’s has inherited my take-out pizza orders since Mizza’s left us. It’s not the NY-style thin crust that I prefer. It’s thicker and breadier and more chewy than crisp, but I guess that’s New England-style, puffy-crust pizza for you. Definitely better the second day once it’s had time to «deflate.» The roasted vegetable pizza has huge chunks of fresh eggplant, onion, broccoli, peppers and mushroom – not canned! It’s awesome. The buffalo chicken pizza comes with big, crispy pieces of chicken and bleu cheese sauce. The shrimp special pizza is really good, but it appears that someone became distracted while making ours last week. It’s supposed to come with shrimp, tomato, feta, scallions, peppers and garlic. Ours came with only feta and a few shrimp(not nearly as many as usual). The cheese was also burnt. It was really unappetizing and we were terribly disappointed. The dogs, however, were not.(Mizza’s always got our order right! Always!) For $ 8.95, the fried calamari portion is rather scant. I advise against the buffalo flavor. I’ll up this review to a 3 if they don’t botch my orders for a while.

One of many places to get pizza in Winsted, but also a good Italian restaurant. Sophia’s has a wide variety of pizza, calzones, sandwiches, and pasta dishes. We have eaten here several times and always had a good meal and good service. The place itself is just a storefront in a strip mall and not much to look at – but the food makes this place worth a visit.

This is a classic simple restaurant with a huge menu and good food. We come here often, and the grinders are very good. Baked pasta dishes are always tasty, and the pizza is excellent!

Fair… at best… Went with my family… a party of 10… They forget our reservation… The place was packed and there was a steady flow of customers picking up take out… While our waitress was awesome… the food and drinks were lackluster… The portions are huge, but why serve big portions that aren’t very tasty? I will not go back… and I am not sure why this place is so popular…

This place rules. It’s very quiet and the décor is understated. The food is all made from scratch and I’ve never had a bad meal there. The service is not super fast but it’s worth the wait. You can change anything about your order because it’s all from scratch. If you want to have a delicious meal and a quiet night this is a great place.

Nice little restaurant. Service was great. My chicken parm grinder was very good(chicken was NOT dry), my husband’s meatball grinder was delicious, and the boy’s pizza was great too. They said they make their own meatballs. They do not, however, have free refills on the sodas, so just a heads up about that. If i’m out that way, I would definitely go there again.

Best Meatball Grinder… a great place to stop on the way to our summer house!
