If you’re in the general Roath/Adamsdown/Splott locale but the wrong end of City Road to get your laughing gear round Albany Fish Bar’s standard-setting nosh, you could do a lot worse than seeking out Clifton Fish Bar. The fish and chips can’t compete, but the serving staff are upbeat and there’s a fruit machine to fritter away your change or kill time if there’s a queue. And make no mistake, though no world-beater, the Clifton Fish Bar is still good enough to cause a queue or three when dinnertime rolls around.

I have a friend that will cycle all the way from Cathedral Road in all manner of inclement weather just to visit the Clifton Fish Bar when the mood takes him… although he swears by The Codfather on Cowbridge Road East as well… Crazy you would think… But there’s method in his madness! Although I wouldn’t personally go to such lengths to scratch my fast food itch, I will negotiate the awful inconvenience of the new one way system in order to get a Clifton Fish Bar fix. They serve some of the best fish and chips in the whole of South Wales, and so are worth all of the effort that we make! They do other food,(burgers, pizza and kebabs etc.), but I can’t vouch for these as I have only ever bought the fabled fish and chips! They don’t deliver, which never used to be an issue. But, ever since the council implemented the one way system, the business has been adversely affected. Trade is down, especially during the day according to Tariq, the extremely friendly manager. Luckily Clifton Fish Bar has been going for about twenty years and has earned itself a great reputation, and so it will definitely be one of the many fast food outlets on this street that will survive come what may!
